    Section 19 (1) (c) of the Act requires employers to

    provide such information, instruction, training andsupervision as are reasonably necessary to ensure eachemployee is safe from injury and risks to health

    Section 20 of the Act requires employers to prepare

    and maintain policies and procedures that set out thearrangements, practices and procedures at theworkplace to protect the health and safety ofemployees

    For the purpose of first aid this means providingappropriate first aid to any other person (e.g. a

    customer or visitor) who is injured or becomes ill as aresult of being at the workplace or as a result of the workperformed there.

    a person with the designated duty to provide first aid inthe workplace who:

    (a) has attended training and has as a result anappropriate and current statement/s of attainment; or(b) is an appropriate health professional.

    Occupational first aid

    Course outline:

    Occupational First Aid Level 3 is a 70 hour program designed tocover all medical techniques considered to be within theresponsibility of the Occupational First Aid Attendant providing

    emergency care in industry.

    Prerequisites:

    To qualify for Level 3 training and subsequent certification, a personmust be at least 16 years old and have the physical ability to perform

    first aid skills required to complete the learning tasks. No previousfirst aid training is required.
