First and foremost, I would like to thank my Additional

Mathematics teacher, Puan Rohani Din as she gives us

important guidance and commitment during this project work.

She has been a very supportive figure throughout the whole

project.

I also would like to also say thanks to all my friends for helping

me and always supporting me to help complete this project work.

They had done a great job sharing information with other people

including me. Without them this project would never have had its

conclusion.

For their strong support, I would like to express my gratitude to

my beloved parent for helping me to find the mark to complete

this project. They have always been by my side and I hope they

will be there in the future.

INTRODUCTION

Muffin comes in variety forms n flavours and are among favourite

desserts served during special occasions such s birthday parties,

Hari Raya, weddings and others. Muffins are treasured not only

because of their wonderful taste but also in the art of muffin

baking and muffin decorating.

Baking a muffin offers a tasty way to practice math skills such as

fractions and ratios, in a real-world context. Many steps of baking

a muffin such as counting ingredients and setting the oven timer,

provide basic math practice for young children. Older children

and teenagers can use more sophisticated math to solve baking

dilemmas, such as how to make a muffin recipe larger or smaller

or how to determine what size slices you should cut. Practicingmath while baking not only improves your math skills, it helps you

become a more flexible and resourceful baker.

Cute Bakery produce 600 packets of muffin per day with each

packet containing 5 pieces and each muffin has a mass 20 g.Shop operates 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, has 3 employers

who each of them receives salary of RM 150 per day.

The table shows the ratio of the price list and the ingredients

used in making muffins.

On each day of operation, a total of 25 kg of flour used. Minimum

target for each operation was 20%.

a) The total cost of the ingredients in order to produce a cup

cake.

Flour 20g x 5/14 = 7.143g

Milk 20g x 4/14 = 5.714g

Sugar 20g x 2/14 = 2.857g

Egg 20g x 3/14 = 4.286g

Flour 7.143g/1000g x RM 2 =RM 0.01428

Milk 5.714g/1000g x RM 8 =RM 0.04568

Sugar 2.857g/1000g x RM 1.8 =RM 0.005148

Egg 4.286g/1000g x RM 4.8 =RM 0.020592

= 60kg

Suggestion of a reasonable selling price for each packet of

muffin offered.

Cost material = RM 0.0857 x 600 x 5

= RM 257.10

Utilities cost + Labour = RM 950

RM 257.10 + RM 950 = RM 1207.10

RM 1207.10 + 20% profit = RM 1448.52 per 600 packet

RM 1448.52/600 = RM 2.4142 per 1 packet

PART III

During August 2011, Cute Bakery has decided to make all of its

muffins decorated and packed in special packages suitable to

give as gifts or souvenirs. The quantity of production is not

increased and still using the same recipe. Decorative gift

packaging cost at 0.5 cents per gram muffin. It takes 0.9 minutes

to adorned for each size of muffins.

For the purpose of a gift, the smallest size is 20 g per each, while

the largest 60 grams per each. If the mixer can be programmed

to increase the size of the cake produced by an additional 10

grams of each size. Decorating tasks will be performed by

temporary workers. Each part time employees will be paid a

salary of RM 80 per day. An employee can complete it (all sizes)

in just 0.9 minutes.

Decorating tasks = 0.5 sen per 1g

20g + 30g + 40g + 50g + 60g

= 200g

a)

The number of units for each size muffin that can be produced

per day

60kg/200g = 300 units for each size

b)

The number of workers that should be taken to complete

this decorating task when all muffins will be furnished on the

same day.

300 Units x 5 size = 1500 units

1500 Units x 0.9 min = 1350 minutes

1 worker 8 hours x 60 minutes workers require = 1350/480

b) Decorated muffins will be produced in the festive

season in 2012 if the increase in prices of materials used

in the prices of sales of less than 15% compared to the

year 2011. Suggestion of the results is shown by showing

the necessary data in support ot the proposed decision.

RM 1244.30 + 20% profite

RM 1244.30 x 20/100 = RM 248.86

RM 1244.30 + RM 248.86

= RM 1493.16 for 600 packet

1 packet = RM 1493.16/600

= RM 2.4886

CONCLUSION

While I conducted this project, I have found a lot of information. I

have learnt many useful things about muffin.

Apart from that, this project encourages the student to work

together and share their knowledge. It also encourages students

to gather information from the internet, improve thinking skills

and promote effective mathematical communication.

Not only that, I have learned many moral values throughout

doing the additional mathematic project This project has taughtme to be responsible on the works that are given to me to be

completed. This project also had made me feel more confident to

complete my track and not to give up easily when I could not find

the answers for the questions. I also learned to be more

discipline, completing my task on time and passing the project up

to my teacher.

I also enjoyed doing this project during my school holidays as I

spent my time with my friends to complete this project and it had

strengthen our friendship.

Last but not least, I propose that this project should be continued

because it brings allot of moral values to the students and also

test the students in understanding additional mathematic.
