As we stand on the hill

As we stand on the hillWe can see twenty miles

And all of the garbageIs heaped up in piles

And a little girlLooks at her daddy

And smiles'Is this what you leaving for me?'

We can see all smokeWe can see all the rustWe can see all the fieldsThat are turning to dust

And I wonder why thisLittle girlPut her trustIn peopleLike you and me

!he grips at my handAnd she gives a big sighAnd she says to me"addy

Are we all going to die?And the lump in my throatPrevents my replycos the truth isI really don#t know

Whale: An innocent death

As the gentle giants swim through thesea&ot e(pecting a thing&

A sharp metal ob)ect is heading theirway&

And they feel a sharp sting

They don#t know what happened&$ut they feel a lot of pain&The innocent creatures&

Are pulled up by a chain

ow they#ve figured it out&They know what#s going on&

A whaling harpoon has hit them&A massive violent gun

As they#re pulled up to the whalingship&Their condition deteriorates&They get weaker and weaker&They#re in a terrible state

The last thing they see&*ust before they die&Is the satisfied look&In the fisherman#s eye

I hope this proves&+ow cruel whaling is&Well how would you like it&If you were treated like this?

Personal response to poems

These poems are poems that should be appreciated because it contains many

elements that bring awareness to the people This poem is about a whale that caught

with a sharp iron and also about human cruelty to the nature The titles of the poems

are An Innocent "eath by %helsie Woodhead and As We !tand 5n The +ill by "uncan

In general& both poems describe the nature that we face today The first poem

describes a child with her father turned towards the earth that was destroyed as a result

of human action In view of this boy the whole world has been destroyed All that

remained was dust that makes them feel dirty shortness of breath While the second

poem& describes the feeling of a fish that was caught by evil men When the fish is

swimming with pleasure without any interruption& suddenly the whale had been caught

by people using a sharp metal Whale can feel the violence done by humans

In terms of personification& both poems use different characters but both poems

describe the feelings they had when they saw what happened The first poem the

sub)ect is a girl and the second poem the sub)ect is a fish In the poem As We !tand on

the hill in stan6a ,& line , .As we stand on the hill/& the poet describes where he was at

that time that on a hill where he could see the surroundings While in the second poem

in stan6a ,& line , .As the gentle giants swim through the sea/& the poet also describes

the location of the fish are in the sea In terms of the repetition& rhyme As we stand on

the hill have shown the repetition in the second stan6a of lines ,- and 0 .We can see

all smoke& We can see all the dusts& We can see all the fields/ In the poem An innocent

death& the repetition occurs in stan6a 0 lines 0 and 1 are .They get weaker and weaker&

they are in terrible state/

"iscuss the similarities and differences& there are several significant elements In

terms of similarities& the two poems are about nature $esides the two poems also

describe the feelings the characters involved& and also feeling the living sub)ect& but had

difficulty $oth poems also raise the 2uestion of an uncertain future And differences that

arise are related to background locations In the first poem on land while the second

poem in the sea 7isery in the first poem in connection with polluted air and the second

poem is related to the in)ured whale umber is also different in that stan6a in the first

poem contains three second stan6a and contains si( stan6a poem

In conclusion& both poems describe the problems of nature $oth poems describe

the circumstances are different but both show the impact of human actions that lead to

the destruction of mankind Although both poems are presented at different background&

but we can dive into the poet's feeling for the two poets put themselves on the sub)ect in

the poem Although the poem is 2uite short& but overall& the meaning conveyed by the

poem is clear

Reflection

In making this assignment& I have found many problems in completing tasks

properly Among these problems are difficult to find poems that are appropriate to the

tasks given +owever& after I e(plore and read a poem by one& finally I found two poems

in my opinion the best The poem describes two different situations but still in same

theme

The second problem I faced was detailing the differences and similarities

between the two poems +owever& after I follow the attached guidelines I can find

differences and similarities in these poems

The third problem is concerned with analy6ing the poems that was selected To

overcome this problem& I repeatedly read and understand& I finally understood the

poems well

8inally& after making this assignment& I find that I have received much benefit as I

have been able to understand the te(t of the poem& I could write a poem related to the

analysis and I can improve my fluency in 9nglish Language
