TAHUN 1 SEMESTER 1 UMB 1011 ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES SINOPSIS : English for Academic Purposes devotes its contents to fulfilling students’ academic requirements such as the acquisition of reading, note taking, library, writing as well as speaking and listening skills in English. Besides that students will also be trained to refine their skills in expository writing. Students will be exposed to insights and skills in English that are most relevant to them in their tertiary studies and academic work. This course emphasizes upon problem based learning approach and focuses on developing students’ delivery of speech in oral interactions and presentations confidently. Importance is given on mastery of self-directed learning, team-work, research, oral presentations, reasoning and creativity. Students will also be exposed to anticipate and deal with questions during job interview sessions. This course is to enable students to acquire knowledge and skills necessary for conducting and participating in meetings. It includes writing of meeting documents, letter writing and resume.

COMMUNICATION) SINOPSIS : This course introduces students to report writing skills needed at tertiary level. Students will learn basic report writing skills involving Proposals, Progress Report and Analytical Report. In order to do this, they will learn how to collect data using questionnaires. The data collected will be analyzed, transferred into graphic forms and presented orally and in writing. TAHUN 2 SEMESTER II UMS 1122 HUBUNGAN ETNIK SINOPSIS : Masyarakat Malaysia boleh dianggap dari segi analitikalnya sebagai sebuah sistem sosial yang mempunyai strukturnya sendiri, yang terkandung di dalamnya pelbagai institusi yang mempunyai peranan dan fungsi masing-masing. Sistem sosial di Malaysia diwarnai dengan fungsi dua hala yang berterusan antara kelompok etnik dan setiap individu warganya. Dalam sejarah pembentukan sistem sosial Malaysia yang cukup kompleks, Perlembagaan Malaysia dianggap institusi tunjang yang menstruktur sistem sosialnya, sehubungan dengan itu, kursus ini akan membincangkan dua perkara besar yang membantu kita memahami sistem sosial Malaysia dan bagaimana hubungan etnik ini diatur. BFC 3023 STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

PRE REQUISITE : BFC 2083 (MECHANICS OF MATERIAL)

SYNOPSIS: The course begins by relating the analysis and design, how structures are idealized for analysis purposes and identifying statically determinate and indeterminate sructures for further analysis. Truss analysis using virtual work method is used to find deflection and extended further for statically indeterminate structure using compatibility to calculate the internal forces. The next topic is the analysis of statically indeterminate beam and frame using stifness method namely slope-deflection method. The principle is extended to moment distribution method which is more mechanical in nature and suitable to be used in structural analysis for design purpose. The plastic analysis topic gives the exposure to the basic theory of plastic hinge developement, mechanisme and collapse load. TAHUN4 SEMESTER III BFC 4084 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING SYNOPSIS : Students are required to do the industrial training for the period of 10 weeks in the field of civil engineering in the approved organizations by the university. Every student will be evaluated by the faculty and industrial supervisor. In this program students are expected to be trained in systematic and structured way in the disciplines of civil engineering such as designing, constructing, human resources planning, engineering management, cost preparation, entrepreneurship, consultancy and research. Students are also trained in the aspects of work safety and health as well as ethics in the industry. Students shall be given the opportunity to expose to involve directly in the aspects of management, planning, budget preparation, important documents, supervising and maintenance of a project. Students shall involve in the work place with certain constraints that benefited them in improving their mental and physical fitness.
