Ringkasan Eksekutif

Kemaskini Banci Penduduk dan Perumahan (KBPP) 2016 telah dikendalikan dari bulan

Mei hingga September 2016. Objektif utama KBPP 2016 adalah untuk mengemaskini

bilangan dan maklumat penduduk yang telah diperolehi semasa Banci Penduduk dan

Perumahan (BPP) 2011; di samping mengemaskini bilangan dan senarai perumahan di

seluruh negara bagi kegunaan banci dan kajian akan datang. Ini merupakan kali

pertama kemaskini sebegini pernah dijalankan di dalam tempoh antara banci.

Laporan Akhir Kemaskini Banci Penduduk dan Perumahan (KBPP) 2016 ini

memaparkan data akhir mengenai bilangan dan ciri-ciri utama demografi penduduk

disamping maklumat mengenai keluarga atau isirumah dan unit perumahan di Negara

Brunei Darussalam, pada tahun 2016. Oleh itu data ini menggantikan data dalam Laporan Awal KBPP 2016 yang telah dikeluarkan pada Oktober 2017.

Saiz dan Pertumbuhan Penduduk Semasa Kemaskini Banci Penduduk dan Perumahan 2016, jumlah penduduk Negara

Brunei Darussalam adalah seramai 417,256 orang berbanding dengan 393,372 orang

semasa Banci Penduduk dan Perumahan 2011. Ini menunjukkan pertumbuhan pada

kadar purata tahunan sebanyak 1.2 peratus dalam tempoh 2011-2016, berbanding

dengan pertumbuhan 1.7 peratus semasa tempoh 2001-2011. Penduduk Negara

Brunei Darussalam terdiri daripada 214,104 orang lelaki (51.3 peratus) dan 203,152

orang perempuan (48.7 peratus).

Taraf Penduduk Daripada jumlah keseluruhan penduduk, Rakyat Brunei merupakan bahagian terbesar

sebanyak 76.5 peratus (319,325 orang), manakala agihan Penduduk Tetap dan

Penduduk Sementara adalah masing-masing sebanyak 7.9 peratus (32,803 orang) dan

15.6 peratus (65,128 orang). Rakyat Brunei telah bertambah pada kadar 2.5 peratus

setahun dalam tempoh 2011-2016.

Taburan Geografi Seperti banci-banci terdahulu, daerah Brunei Muara kekal sebagai daerah yang paling

ramai penduduk dengan 289,630 orang, yang merupakan 69.4 peratus daripada

jumlah penduduk. Ini diikuti oleh Daerah Belait (16.6 peratus atau 69,062 orang),

Daerah Tutong (11.6 peratus atau 48,313 orang) dan Daerah Temburong (2.5 peratus

atau 10,251 orang).

Taburan Umur Dari aspek taburan umur, kira-kira 22.3 peratus (93,159 orang) dari jumlah penduduk

adalah berumur di bawah 15 tahun, 72.5 peratus (302,498 orang) adalah penduduk

dalam kumpulan umur bekerja 15-64 tahun, dan 5.2 peratus (21,599 orang) adalah

penduduk yang berumur 65 tahun dan ke atas. Umur penengah (median) pada tahun

2016 adalah 29.5 tahun berbanding 27.6 tahun pada tahun 2011.

Bangsa Bangsa Melayu dengan 65.7 peratus (274,138 orang) dari jumlah penduduk

merupakan komuniti terbesar di negara ini pada tahun 2016. Bangsa Cina dan lain-lain

bangsa masing-masing terdiri dari 10.3 peratus (42,995 orang) dan 24.0 peratus

(100,123 orang) dari jumlah penduduk.

Ugama Majoriti penduduk negara ini adalah berugama Islam, merangkumi sebanyak 80.9

peratus (337,391 orang) pada tahun 2016. Penduduk selebihnya terdiri dari 7.1

peratus (29,510 orang) yang berugama Kristian, 7.1 peratus (29,495 orang) Buddha

dan 5.0 peratus (20,860 orang) adalah penganut ugama lain atau tidak mempunyai

kepercayaan ugama.

Isirumah Semasa Kemaskini Banci 2016, jumlah isirumah adalah sebanyak 75,792 berbanding

dengan 68,237 semasa Banci 2011. Saiz purata isirumah adalah seramai 5.5 orang ahli.

Perumahan Jumlah tempat kediaman atau unit perumahan yang didiami di Negara Brunei

Darussalam adalah sebanyak 74,570 buah, peningkatan sebanyak 9,177 dari Banci

2011. Daerah Brunei Muara mempunyai bilangan unit perumahan yang didiami yang

tertinggi sebanyak 51,055 buah (68.5 peratus).

Executive Summary The Population and Housing Census Update (KBPP) 2016 was conducted from May to

September 2016. The main objective of KBPP 2016 was to update the number and information regarding the population obtained from the Population and Housing

Census (BPP) 2011; as well as to update the number and listing of housing units

throughout the country to be used for future censuses and surveys. This was the first time that such update was conducted during an inter-censal period.

This Final Report of the Population and Housing Census Update (KBPP) 2016 presents

the final data on the number and key demographic characteristics of the population,

as well as information on the family or households and housing units in Brunei

Darussalam in 2016. Therefore, the final data in this report supersedes the data in the Preliminary Report KBPP 2011 released in October 2017.

Population Size and Growth In the 2016 Population and Housing Census Update, the total population of Brunei

Darussalam was 417,256 persons compared to 393,372 in the 2011 Population and

Housing Census. This represented an average annual growth rate of 1.2 per cent during

the period 2011-2016, compared to 1.7 per cent during the 2001-2011 period. The population of Brunei Darussalam comprised of 214,104 males (51.3 per cent) and 203,152 females (48.7 per cent).

Residential Status Out of the overall total population, Brunei Citizens accounted for the largest share of

76.5 per cent (319,325 persons), while the shares of the Permanent Residents and Temporary Residents were 7.9 per cent (32,803 persons) and 15.6 per cent (65,128

persons) respectively. The Brunei Citizens have been growing steadily at 2.5 per cent per year during the period 2011-2016.

Geographic Distribution As in the previous censuses, the Brunei Muara District remained the most populated

district with 289,630 persons, comprising 69.4 per cent of the total population. This

was followed by the Belait District (16.6 per cent or 69,062 persons), the Tutong District

(11.6 per cent or 48,313 persons) and the Temburong District (2.5 per cent or 10,251 persons).

Age Distribution From the age distribution aspect, about 22.3 per cent (93,159 persons) were below 15

years of age, 72.5 per cent (302,498 persons) were in the working age group of 15-64

years and 5.2 per cent (21,599 persons) were aged 65 years and over. The median age in 2016 was 29.5 years compared to 27.6 years in 2011.

Race The Malays with 65.7 per cent (274,138 persons) of the total population formed the

largest community in the country in 2016. The racial groups of Chinese and others

comprised 10.3 per cent (42,995 persons) and 24.0 per cent (100,123 persons) of the population respectively.

Religion The majority of the country’s population were Muslims comprising of 80.9 per cent

(337,391 persons) in 2016. The remaining population consisted of 7.1 per cent (29,510

persons) Christians, 7.1 per cent (29,495 persons) Buddhists and 5.0 per cent (20,860 persons) were members of others faiths or having no religious beliefs.

Household In the 2016 Census Update, the total number of households was 75,792 compared to 68,237 in the 2011 Census. The average size of households was 5.5 members.

Housing Units The total number of occupied living quarters or housing units in Brunei Darussalam was

74,570, an increase of 9,177 from the 2011 Census. Brunei Muara District had the largest number of housing units at 51,055 housing units (68.5 per cent).
