PHILOSOPHY

Design should be a medium for individuals to be of service to the society. The methodologies and approaches of design should be used for a broader set of problems in society. This is when a designer’s life becomes a life of service to the society.

In the context of my specific field it can be express in the facilitation of how people can be part of the surrounding culture. It is an obligation for an environment designer to create space where people are discovering themselves, the surroundings and interact with people.

The built environment should be a catalyst for dialogs between different layers of society that come together in the physical environment. I believe that we have a responsibility to ensure that our designs continuously fit the way people would want to live their lives.

As I mature with each project done, I try to analyse what is the key criteria in this situation. The criteria could be biggest concern and demand from the context that will shape the project or an existing potential and that can be made to an opportunity.

I call this SOCIAL ALCHEMY. Just like alchemy was known as the science of turning metal into gold. I believe that design has its roots in improving the quality of life.

It was a one day event held at the National University of Singapore. We collaborated with the main organizing committee in the final design of the event.

We volunteered for the event as student representatives from Diploma in Environment Design. The audience was primarily fresh GCE ‘O’ Level graduates and their parents. The overall task was to set up a booth showcasing the best works from the diploma outlining the immense opportunity it has to offer.

I made own toys with household items

After watching the movie ‘Around the world in 80 days’, I aspired to be an inventor

Most of my design works was more inclined to Industrial Design

Joined ‘Boon Lay Secondary Art Club’ as a CCA for 4 years and got involved in many art
