9. Sinopsis Kursus Kursus ini membincangkan isu pengurusan makroekonomi yang
dihadapi dan dasar penstabilan yang diamalkan oleh negara
membangun, khususnya Malaysia. Tajuk penting yang akan
diliputi ialah model keseimbangan statik dalam penentuan
pendapatan negara. Di bawah tajuk ini, perbincangan ditumpukan
kepada keseimbangan sebelah permintaan, keseimbangan sebelah
penawaran, dasar fisikal, dasar kewangan dan dasar pendapatan,
model carian, ketegaran upah dan pengganguran, dan jangkaan
rasional dan dasar permintaan. Di samping itu, kursus ini turut
membincangkan tajuk fungsi permintaan sektoral yang meliputi
teori penggunaan, permintaan pelaburan, permintaan dan
penawaran wang, dan sektor asing dan imbangan pembayaran.

After attending this course, the students should be able to:
- explain the macroeconomic model in terms of the standard IS-
LM and IS-PC-MR model in the good market, money market,
and labour market.
- analyze the role of fiscal and monetary policies
- understand the role of consumption, investment, and finance in
economic activity
- analyze the macroeconomic model in open economy
- understand the economic growth model in terms of exogenous
and endogenous growth model

Guidelines for Assignments
There are two types of assignments;
(1) Group presentation and report, and
(2) Individual essay (for PhD students only).
1. Group Presentation (10%): Presentation (5%), Report (5%)
You have to set up a group consisting of not more than 4 persons per group. Your
group should then decide/select a topic (from Topic 2-Topic 14 of the course
contents) to be discussed and presented. You and your group members have to
specifically choose a specific subject matter of the topic selected. Your presentation
should include discussion of some theoretical aspects of the topic and the related data/
empirical findings that support them.
Group presentation will begin after mid-semester break (weeks 8). The due date for
submitting the full essay is before the final exam of the course. Please make sure the
final essay is not more than 15 pages using 1.5 spacing (Times New Roman).
2. Individual Essay (10%): For PhD students only
You have to compare, criticize and synthesize at least two recent articles (from
journal) related to any topic in the course contents. The articles/journal should be
from the ones that are indexed in ISI/SSCI (economics). At the moment, there are 304
journals indexed in ISI/SSCI (Economics). Please refer to the library website for the
detailed information. You can choose either the theoretical or empirical articles or
combination of them.
In writing the essay, you should discuss (compare, criticize and synthesize) the
following:
(a) Motivation/research question
(b) Research design/theoretical framework
(c) Estimations results/calibration
(d) Summary and conclusion
(e) Comments or suggestions
The due date for submitting the final essay is before the final exam of the course.
Also, please make sure the final essay is not more than 10 pages using 1.5 spacing
(Times New Roman).
