The management of Group operations has been organised into divisions by activities covering ENGINEERING SERVICES, MANUFACTURING, MARKETING, PROPERTIES AND FINANCIAL SERVICES.

ENGINEERING SERVICES

The PROTON Group’s Engineering Services are spearheaded by Lotus Advanced Technologies Sdn. Bhd. whichowns Proton Engineering Research Technology Sdn. Bhd. (PERT), Miyazu (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (MMSB) and LotusGroup International Limited (LGIL). Through these companies, PROTON continued to build and consolidate itsposition as a competent engineering service provider. Outside of Japan and Korea, Malaysia now has the largestautomotive technical and research facility in the region.

Activities in this division cover total vehicle engineering, testing, development of advanced facilities, assembly jigsand dies making. PROTON’s efforts in the development of new products and technology are supplemented byacquisitions to the PROTON stable of companies. Lotus Engineering, through its outfit in Malaysia, is involved indeveloping a low-cost engineering base. Its parent company, LGIL in the United Kingdom, is involved in advancedpower-train design/testing; development of lightweight materials; development of sports cars; ongoing studies onnoise, vibration and harshness; ride and handling, total vehicle engineering; styling; development of advancedvehicles and low volume manufacturing. Another Lotus outfit in the US, focuses on advanced engine emissiontesting and vehicle engineering.

Pengurusan operasi Kumpulan ditadbir mengikut bahagianberdasarkan aktiviti merangkumi PERKHIDMATAN KEJURUTERAAN,PERKILANGAN, PEMASARAN, HARTANAH DANPERKHIDMATAN KEWANGAN.

PERKHIDMATAN KEJURUTERAANPerkhidmatan kejuruteraan Kumpulan PROTON diterajui oleh Lotus Advanced Technologies Sdn. Bhd. yangmemiliki Proton Engineering Research Technology Sdn. Bhd. (PERT), Miyazu (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. (MMSB) dan LotusGroup International Limited (LGIL). Menerusi syarikat-syarikat tersebut, PROTON dapat terus membina sertamengukuhkan lagi kedudukannya sebagai sebuah organisasi yang mantap dalam menawarkan perkhidmatankejuruteraan. Selain Jepun dan Korea, Malaysia kini mempunyai keupayaan teknikal automotif dan kemudahanpenyelidikan yang terbesar di rantau ini.

Aktiviti-aktiviti di bahagian ini merangkumi aspek kejuruteraan, ujian, pembangunan kemudahan terkini,pemasangan alatan "jigs" serta merekabentuk dan menghasilkan acuan automotif. Usaha PROTON di dalammembangunkan produk-produk dan teknologi baru diperkukuhkan lagi menerusi pemilikan dan pembeliankepentingan di dalam syarikat-syarikat berteknologi. Lotus Engineering di Malaysia, dapat menyediakankejuruteraan tinggi dengan kos yang lebih berdaya saing. Syarikat induknya pula, LGIL di United Kingdom, terlibatdalam merekabentuk dan menguji keupayaan enjin dan transmisi terkini; pembangunan bahan bina lebih ringandan kukuh; pembangunan kereta “sports”, pengurangan bunyi bising, gegaran dan kekasaran, (NVH), sistempacuan dan pengendalian, kejuruteraan kenderaan yang menyeluruh, merekabentuk, membangunkankenderaan canggih, dan pembuatan kenderaan. Cawangan Lotus di Amerika Syarikat pula menumpukankepada aktiviti ujian enjin dan kejuruteraan kenderaan.

PROTON has been invest ing in new models

facilities in meeting the objectives as outlined in

the Second Industrial Master Plan (IMP2). Over the

next five years, PROTON is expected to invest not

only to build up its expertise, but also to attract

other car manufacturers and related industries to

use its R&D facilities and services.

To ensure i t continues to remain at the very

forefront of technology, PROTON continued to

expand its development facilities. These include a

new Mileage Accumulation Chassis Dynamometer

(MACD) laboratory, suspension kinematics and

compliance measurement system, and engine

dynamometer capabilities, linear occupant impact

simulator and an anthropomorphic test device

calibration facility.

PROTON’s continual investment in the R&D’s effort is

focused towards the following key objectives:

• Shortened development lead time (time-to-market) and reduction in development costs

• Upgrading of engineering capabilities

• Enhanced product quality

• Ownership of Design

PENYELIDIKAN DAN PEMBANGUNAN ("R&D")

Dalam merealisasikan objektif-objektif kerajaan yangdigariskan melalui Pelan Induk Perindustrian Kedua, PROTONtelah membangunkan kenderaan baru, di sampingmelengkapkan kemudahan dan infrastruktur penyelidikandan pembangunannya (R&D). Untuk tempoh lima tahunyang akan datang, PROTON akan terus meningkatkankepakarannya, bukan sahaja untuk kegunaannya sendirimalah untuk menarik minat pengeluar-pengeluarkenderaan lain dan industri berkaitan untuk menggunakankemudahan dan perkhidmatan yang disediakan.

Untuk memastikan PROTON sentiasa seir ing denganperkembangan teknologi terkini, ia turut mempertingkatkankemudahan dan fasiliti pembangunan sedia ada. Pelaburanbaru seperti mengadakan makmal “Mileage AccumulationChassis Dynamometer (MACD)”, sistem pengukuran danpiawaian “suspension kinematics”, keupayaan pengujianenjin melalui “dynamometer”, dan pelbagai sistem untuktujuan simulasi, penilaian keupayaan dan ketahanankenderaan.

Pelaburan berterusan PROTON di dalam bidangpenyelidikan dan pembangunan mempunyai objektif-objektif seperti berikut:

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

PROTON has evolved to be more than just a carmanufacturer. At home and abroad, it is nowincreasingly recognised as an engineering serviceprovider. Our reputation has been borne out byseveral projects completed or underway, carried outon our own or in collaboration with Lotus Engineering.

• Campro Engine The objective of the Campro project was todevelop the first Malaysian engine with a 1.3 literand 1.6 liter displacement based on an in-line4-cylinder configuration. Campro engine wasdesigned to comply with European exhaustemission requirements (Euro 4).

The Campro was introduced to the Malaysianmarket with the launch of the Gen.2 in February2004. Having variants of 1.3 litre and 1.6 litre, theengine will be used in other new PROTON models.

• Campro CPS/VIM This is a high performance variant in the Camproengine development project. The main objectivesof this project are to enhance engineperformance by over 10% and to reduce gaseousemissions beyond the requirements of Euro 4.

• New Engine Family (NEF)The primary objective of the NEF project, is todevelop high performance engine between 2.0litre to 3.5 litre capacity. Designed to comply withglobal emission requirements and withsupercharging capabilities based on both I4 andV6 configurations, the two engines are plannedfor packaging into new PROTON and Lotusvehicles.

PEMBANGUNAN PRODUK

Keupayaan PROTON telah berkembang luas dan ia tidaklagi hanya menjadi sebuah syarikat pengilang kenderaan.Kemampuan PROTON dalam perkhidmatan kejuruteraantelah diiktiraf di dalam dan luar negara. Melalui projek-projekterdahulu dan yang sedang diusahakan, PROTON terusmengukuhkan reputasi kemampuannya dalam bidangkejuruteraan, termasuklah program yang diusahakandengan Lotus Engineering.

• Enjin CamproObjektif projek Campro adalah untuk menghasilkan enjinMalaysia pertama dengan keupayaan 1.3 liter dan 1.6liter berdasarkan konfigurasi “in-line” 4 silinder. EnjinCampro ini menepati syarat-syarat “exhaust emission”Kesatuan Eropah (Euro 4).

TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

Given the high tech nature of the automotiveindustry, staying ahead of the competition meanscontinual investment in developing leading edgetechnology. Several projects have taken off thedrawing board and are now at varying stages ofimplementation.

• Hybrid VehiclePROTON embarked on the project as atechnology platform showcasing the Group’scapabilities and expertise in the global market.The objective is to develop a hybrid vehicleincorporating new technological solutions forbetter fuel economy that will comply with futurestr ingent emission and fuel consumptionlegislation.

• Multiplexing PROTON has ventured into developing newtechnology solutions for in-vehicle intelligence.The objective is to develop new in-vehicleelectronic architecture with greater versatility,functionality, rel iabil ity and advanceddiagnostic features.

• Natural Gas Vehicle (NGV) The objective is to develop technologicalsolutions for an alternative and cheaper fuel forvehicles. This will be a bi-fuel MPI low emissionvehicle.

CUSTOMER BASE

PROTON’s client base for its engineering serviceshas grown steadily, promising a potential lucrativerevenue stream. External clients include automotivemanufacturers and vendors, as well as electroniccomponents suppliers.

Lotus’ engineering business in China continued togrow steadily. The business is focused on vehicledevelopment, chassis engineering and trainingprojects for emerging companies.

PEMBANGUNAN TEKNOLOGI

Industri automotif merupakan satu industri yangberteraskan teknologi t inggi di manapersaingan sengit memerlukan PROTON seringmempertingkatkan keupayaan teknologinyamengikut perubahan industri. Di antara projek-projek yang sedang dibangunkan adalah;

• Kenderaan HybridProjek ini menjadi pelantar untukmempamerkan keupayaan teknologi dankepakaran pembangunan PROTON.Kenderaan hybrid ini mengadunkanteknologi-teknologi terkini dengan objektifmenghasilkan kenderaan yang bukansahaja menjimatkan penggunaan bahanapi tetapi menepati syarat-syarat ketat“emission” dan penggunaan bahan apiantarabangsa masa hadapan.

• MultiplexingPROTON kini meneroka teknologi baru “in-vehicle intelligence” yang membolehkanpenggunaan diagnostik elektronik yangmoden, mempunyai pelbagai fungsi danlebih berdaya-tahan berbanding sistemelektronik kenderaan masa kini.

• Kenderaan menggunakan Gas Asli (NGV)Tujuan utama projek ini adalahmembangunkan teknologi dalampenggunaan gas asli sebagai alternatif yanglebih murah dan bersih.

PELANGGAN KHIDMAT KEJURUTERAAN

Jumlah pelanggan khidmat kejuruteraanPROTON telah berkembang dari masa ke masa.Khidmat ini berpotensi untuk menjadi salah satucabang pendapatan lumayan untuk KumpulanPROTON. Pelanggan-pelanggan terdiri daripadasyarikat-syarikat automotif dan pembekal,termasuk juga pengeluar komponen elektronik.

Bagi Lotus Engineering pula, pendapatan dari khidmat kejuruteraan di China semakin berkembang. Fokus khidmat Lotustertumpu kepada pembangunan kenderaan,kejuruteraan “chassis” dan projek latihanberasaskan teknologi.

MANUFACTURING

The manufacturing capacity and capability aresupported by four main plants – Perusahaan OtomobilNasional Sdn. Bhd., Proton Tanjung Malim Sdn. Bhd.,Lotus Cars and MV Agusta Motors SpA (Italy).

PROTON SHAH ALAM

The Shah Alam plant comprises of the main factory,medium-volume factory, engine and transmissionfactory and casting factory.

With a combined installed capacity of 230,000 unitsper year, the Shah Alam plant employs more than6,000 personnel.

The main factory and the medium-volume factoryproduce Iswara, Wira, Perdana, Arena and Waja-base model variants.

PROTON TANJUNG MALIM

Home to PROTON’s ultra-modern manufacturing andassembly plant, Tanjung Malim is now PROTON’scentre of automotive excellence.

Started operations in mid-2004, PROTON TanjungMalim first produced the Gen.2. Built on a 1,280-acresite, it is five times larger than the Shah Alam facilitywith the initial installed capacity of 150,000 units peryear, for three different models.

The plant complex consists of five main buildings andincorporates the very latest manufacturing andassembly facilities with a flexible line system. Otherfeatures of the new plant are an automated linecontrol, error-proof system for improved productquality, 60% automation (robotics) with 180 robotsworking alongside more than 1,000 personnel. Allthese allow for greater speed, flexibility, efficiency,improved quality and productivity.

PERKILANGAN

Kapasit i dan keupayaan di bidang perki langandisumbangkan oleh empat syarikat utama – PerusahaanOtomobil Nasional Sdn. Bhd., Proton Tanjung Malim Sdn.Bhd., Lotus Cars dan MV Agusta Motors SpA (Italy).

PROTON SHAH ALAM

Operasi di PROTON Shah Alam merangkumi kilang utama,kilang pengeluaran-sederhana, kilang enjin dan transmisi,dan kilang “casting”.

Dengan tahap pengeluaran keseluruhan sebanyak 230,000unit setahun, PROTON Shah Alam beroperasi dengan lebihdari 6,000 kakitangan.

Kilang utama dan ki lang pengeluaran-sederhanamengeluarkan model-model Iswara, Wira, Perdana, Arenadan Waja.

PROTON TANJUNG MALIM

Proton Tanjung Malim merupakan sebuah ki langpengeluaran yang moden dan canggih, menjadikan iapusat kecemerlangan untuk pengeluaran kereta PROTON.

Operasinya bermula pada pertengahan tahun 2004dengan pengeluaran model Gen.2. Dengan jumlahkawasan seluas 1,280 ekar, ia adalah lima kali lebih luas dariPROTON Shah Alam. Kapasiti fasa pertama adalah 150,000unit setahun, dan ia mampu mengeluarkan tiga modelyang berbeza.

Kompleks kilang ini terdiri dari lima bangunan utama yangmenerapkan ciri-ciri pengeluaran dan kemudahan terkini, diantaranya sistem pengeluaran yang fleksibel. Ciri-ciri modenlain termasuk kawalan barisan pengeluaran automatik dan

With its flexibility for modular expansion, PROTONTanjung Malim has the potential to assemblecars for other manufacturers. Proton TanjungMalim is awarded the ISO 9001:2000 incompliance with international standard.

MV AGUSTA MOTORS

MV Agusta is the owner and producer of threewell-known brands namely Cagiva, MV Agustaand Husqvarna. MV Agusta’s production ofmotorcycles has been steadily increasing withmore than 21,000 units produced in the financialyear ended 31 March 2005.

LOTUS CARS

The main operations of Lotus Cars are tomanufacture and distribute sports cars, withoffices in Norwich, United Kingdom and Georgia,United States of America. It produced 4,135 unitsduring the financial year ended 31 March 2005.The current market demand is mainly generatedthrough its latest model, Elise Mk-II 111S.

FROM ASSEMBLY TO FULL-FLEDGEDMANUFACTURING

The acquisition of Lotus in 1996 has enabledPROTON to ascend a steep learning curve,acquiring the expertise and technology to design,build and engineer its own vehicle. Taking thismajor stride forward was in line with the objectivesoutlined in the Second Industrial Malaysia Plan(IMP2), 1996-2005, which underscored theimportance of Malaysia being able to design andmanufacture its own products.

Collaboration with Lotus has enabled PROTONto re-engineer and produce cars like the SatriaGti and Perdana V6. Through such collaboration,PROTON has progressed to become carmanufacturer in its own right. A major milestonewas reached with the launch of the Waja in2000, the first all made-in-Malaysia car. Reprisingthe Waja’s success, the Gen.2 and the Savvywere later rol led out in 2004 and 2005,respectively.

PROTON is now working closely with Lotus on thenew engine development programme utilisingcommon software, tools and facilities, therebyreaping the benefits of operational costefficiencies.

Semua ciri-ciri perkilangan moden ini dapatmenyumbang ke arah meningkatkan tahapkualiti, produktiviti, fleksibiliti dan menjimatkanmasa dalam pengeluaran produk. Denganfleksibiliti untuk pembesaran modular, PROTONTanjung Malim mempunyai potensi untukmemasang kenderaan untuk syarikat-syarikatpengeluar lain. Proton Tanjung Malim telahdiiktirafkan dengan piawaian antarabangsa ISO 9001:2000.

MV AGUSTA MOTORS

MV Agusta adalah pemilik dan pengeluar tigaproduk yang berjenama terkemuka, Cagiva,MV Agusta dan Husqvarna. Di MV Agusta,jumlah pengeluaran motosikal telah bertambahhingga melebihi 21,000 unit dalam tahunkewangan berakhir 31 Mac 2005.

LOTUS CARS

Aktiviti utama Lotus Cars adalah pembuatan danpemasaran kereta “sports”. Beribu-pejabat diNorwich, United Kingdom dengan cawangan diGeorgia, Amerika Syarikat, pengeluaran tahunanLotus untuk tahun kewangan berakhir 31 Mac2005 telah mencecah 4,135 unit. Permintaanpasaran kini lebih tertumpu kepada model, LotusElise Mk-II 111S.

DARI PEMASANGAN KEPADA PERKILANGANMENYELURUH

Pembelian kepentingan di dalam syarikat Lotuspada tahun 1996 telah membolehkan PROTON mempertingkatkan proses kemahirannyadalam jangka waktu yang singkat. PROTON kini berupaya dan mempunyai kepakaran serta teknologi untuk merekabentuk danmembangunkan kenderaannya sendiri.Peningkatan keupayaan ini adalah selarasdengan objektif Pelan Induk Perindustrian Keduayang menitik-beratkan keupayaan merekabentukdan membangunkan produk-produk sendiri.

Kerjasama dengan Lotus telah membolehkanPROTON merubah bentuk dan meningkatkankejuruteraan model-model seperti Satria GTi danPerdana V6. Melalui kerjasama ini juga, PROTONtelah berjaya meningkatkan keupayaannyasehingga berjaya menghasilkan kenderaannyasendiri. Pada tahun 2000, pelancaran Waja,kenderaan buatan Malaysia, yang pertama,menandakan titik tolak sejarah baru PROTONsebagai pengeluar kenderaan. Keupayaan inidiperkukuhkan lagi dengan perlancaran modelGen.2 dan Savvy yang dikeluarkan pada tahun2004 dan 2005.

Pada masa ini PROTON dan Lotus berkerjasamadalam membangunkan enjin baru denganmenggunakan perisian komputer bersama,alatan dan kemudahan yang mampumemberikan kecekapan kos operasi.

Industry Overview

The domestic automotive industry continued to beshaped by the implementation of the ASEAN FreeTrade Agreement (AFTA). Under AFTA, Malaysia hasprogressively lowered the import duties on vehicles,further opening the domestic market to ASEAN andnon-ASEAN competitors, notably Korean carmanufacturers.

Today, customers have more choices. Competitionamong car dealers has heightened, with somedealers resorting to aggressive marketing, withattractive packages to influence purchase decision.

Against this market scenario, PROTON’s launch ofnew products such as the Gen.2 and the Savvy wasmost timely. It has enabled PROTON to hold its ownagainst the competition and maintain its position asthe leading player in Malaysia’s automotive industry.While the domestic market remains a priority inPROTON’s market focus, moving forward, the exportmarket wil l become increasingly important forPROTON to achieve the desired production and salesvolume for better economies of scale.

The acquisit ion of MV Agusta gives PROTONmarketing rights in Asia of world-class products in thesuper-bikes, street-bikes and off-road bikes marketsegments.

Hari ini, pelanggan mempunyai lebih banyak pilihan.Persaingan antara pengedar-pengedar kereta telahmeningkat, dengan sebahagian pengedar kereta memilihuntuk melancarkan aktiviti pemasaran yang lebih agresif,dengan pakej promosi yang menarik untuk mempengaruhikeputusan pembelian.

Berdasarkan senario pasaran yang sebegini, pelancaranmodel-model baru PROTON seperti Gen.2 dan Savvy adalahtepat pada masanya. PROTON experienced a market share erosionleading to a market share of 44% in thedomestic automotive business in 2004. For thefinancial year 2005, total vehicle productionamounted to 201,237, an increase of 32% fromthe previous corresponding period. DomesticPROTON sales have also increased, boostingtotal PROTON sales in Malaysia to 182,924 units,an increase of 20% from the previous year.

Throughout the year, PROTON remained focusedon meeting the twin objectives of expandingexport sales and penetrating new markets.PROTON sales are currently active in 4 mainmarket regions i.e United Kingdom/WesternEurope, the Middle-East, South-East Asia andAustralasia. Exports of PROTON cars have morethan doubled from 7,388 units in FY2003/04 to17,243 units in FY2004/05.

The sales of Gen.2 have been well received inthe overseas markets, with 3,446 units exportedduring the financial year 2004/05. A total of1,466 units were sold in UK, our biggest market,followed by Australia, where some 1,140 unitswere sold. The Gen.2 launch in South Africa willserve as a springboard to penetrate newmarkets in Africa.

With the availability of the Gen.2 LHD variantand Savvy’s first export by end 2005, PROTONcan expect export sales to increase. It will alsoenable PROTON to gain entry into new marketsin the Middle-East and Europe.

While increasing its presence in the internationalmarkets, PROTON remains confident about itsprospects in the domestic market. Various plansare being put in place including focusing itsattention to improve customer satisfactionthrough distributors and dealers.

In Malaysia, PROTON i-CARE, a customermanagement center, has been formed tomainly attend to customers’ inquiries andconcerns. 24-hour roadside assist is also offeredto all PROTON car owners.

In the United Kingdom, the Dealer AttitudeSurvey conducted in early 2005 by the NationalFranchised Dealers Association has shown thatPROTON scored high in the dealers’ businessrelationships with their manufacturer or vehicleimporter, and is testimony to PROTON’scontinued commitment to its dealer networks athome and abroad.

PENJUALAN DAN PENGEDARAN

PROTON telah mengalami penurunanpegangan pasaran tempatan sehinggapegangan pasarannya berada di tahap 44%pada tahun 2004. Bagi tahun kewangan 2005,pengeluaran kenderaan mencapai 201,237 unit,32% lebih tinggi dari tahun sebelumnya. Jualankenderaan di pasaran domestik juga meningkatmenjadikan jumlah jualan PROTON di Malaysiasebanyak 182,924 unit, peningkatan sebanyak20% dari tahun sebelumnya.

Sepanjang tahun, PROTON telah menetapkanfokus untuk memenuhi dua objektif iaitumeluaskan pasaran ekspot dan memasukipasaran baru. PROTON kini aktif di 4 benuautama, iaitu United Kingdom / Eropah Barat,Timur Tengah, Asia Tenggara dan Australasia.Ekspot kereta-kereta PROTON juga meningkatdari 7,388 unit bagi tahun kewangan 2003/04kepada 17,243 unit bagi tahun kewangan2004/05.

Pemasaran Gen.2 di luar negara telahmendapat sambutan yang sangatmenggalakkan. Pada tahun kewangan 2004/05,sejumlah 3,446 unit Gen.2 telah diekspot. Jualantertinggi Gen.2 direkodkan sebanyak 1,466 diUnited Kingdom, diikuti Australia sebanyak 1,140unit. Untuk mengembangkan perniagaan di masahadapan, pelbagai rancangan telah dimulakantermasuk meningkatkan kepuasan pelangganmelalui pengedar dan wakil penjual.

Di Malaysia, PROTON i-CARE, satu pusatpengurusan pelanggan, telah dibina khas untukmelayan pertanyaan-pertanyaan pelanggandan keperluan mereka. Perkhidmatan bantuankerosakan di jalanan 24 jam juga disediakankepada semua pemilik kereta PROTON.

Proton Hartanah wholly owns PROTON Properties Sdn.Bhd. and owns 40% equity in Proton CityDevelopment Corporation Sdn. Bhd.

Whilst PROTON manages 1,280 acres encompassingits plant in Tanjung Malim, it has access to a further2,720 acres via its investment in Proton CityDevelopment Corporation Sdn. Bhd.

The project comprises an integrated development forresidential, commercial, recreational facil it ies,educational and vendor parks.

The PROTON plant contributes towards the continuinggrowth of Tanjung Malim township and its surroundingneighborhood.

THE QUALITY IMPERATIVE

Both PROTON Shah Alam and PROTON Tanjung Malimplants have been accredited the ISO 9001:2000covering areas of design, development,manufacturing of vehicles, engine components andspare parts.

Going another step further, to ensure the productionof higher quality cars, PROTON works in collaborationwith Germany’s TUV Rheinland Group (TUV) fortechnical assistance and support. TUV’s assistanceencompasses the overall vehicle inspection andcertification.

Experts from TUV inspect approximately 160 items ona vehicle before certifying it has met the desiredquality standards. Among the important items thatcome under close scrutiny include equipment, brakesystems, tyres, chassis and structure, fire safety,steering systems and exhaust systems. Through theseinitiatives, PROTON is in a position to better addressmarket concerns, particularly on product quality, fromthe onset of launch of new models.

KEUTAMAAN KUALITI

PROTON Shah Alam dan PROTON Tanjung Malim telahdianugerahkan ISO 9001:2000 yang merangkumi bidangrekabentuk, pembangunan, pembuatan kenderaan,komponen enjin dan alat ganti.

PROTON telah melangkah ke hadapan menerusi kerjasamadengan Kumpulan TUV Rheinland Jerman dalam bentukbantuan dan sokongan teknikal bagi memastikanpengeluaran kereta berkualit i t inggi. Bantuan TUVmerangkumi pemeriksaan dan pengiktirafan keseluruhankenderaan.

Pakar-pakar dari TUV menjalankan pemeriksaan ke atashampir 160 perkara untuk sebuah kenderaan sebelum ianyadiluluskan memenuhi piawaian kualiti yang ditetapkan. Di antara penelitian yang dijalankan termasuk peralatan,sistem brek, tayar, ‘chassis’ dan struktur, pencegahankebakaran, sistem stering dan ekzos.

Melalui inisiatif yang dijalankan, PROTON kini berupayamenumpukan kepada kehendak pasaran terutamanyadalam kualiti produk dari peringkat awal apabila model-model baru dilancarkan.

Collaborative efforts with Lotus has resulted in a newgeneration of cars employing a more complex formof active safety systems that focus on:

• Vehicle ride and handling for better vehiclestability/steering response

• Performance and safety with a lighter weight forgreater vehicle agility

The combination of all these optimises driver’scontrol on the car, with the aim of enhancingoccupant safety and protection.

Today, cars like the Waja, Gen.2 and Savvy provideenhanced structural and body rigidity by utilisingnew materials and strengthening of the platform toachieve maximum occupant protection. Thisminimises body flexing and bending. It also helpsimprove the car’s ride and handling, while providingbetter precision and feedback to the driver.

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

PROTON is committed to undertaking more added-value activities to deliver better products for ahigher level of satisfaction among customers.Concrete measures have already been taken toaddress consumers’ concerns with regards to qualityand safety.

We have adopted a more customer-centric andservice oriented approach in the marketing of ourproducts and services. Our objective is to deliverthe best possible customer experience. Reflectingour commitment towards a new level of customerservice, PROTON recently launched its CustomerManagement Centre. ‘PROTON i-Care’ serves as aone-stop centre for customers to contact andinteract with Proton Edar for product and serviceenquiries, as well as round the clock breakdownassistance.

Today, PROTON has a global workforce of about11,000 employees. Some 70% consist of technicalpersonnel, with more than 1,000 engineersemployed in Malaysia, the United Kingdom, theUnited States of America and China. Many of ouremployees have established their careers with theCompany, where their contributions were dulyacknowledged in yearly long-service awards, somehaving served PROTON for 20 years.

As PROTON continues to spread its wings at homeand abroad, one of its greatest challenges is thetraining and development of its human resources.People drives the organisation. As a Group withvast ambitions, PROTON depends on the combinedknowledge, experience and skills of its humancapital. PROTON also strives to nurture a conducivelearning environment, encouraging staff tocontinually ascend a learning curve.

PROTON has a structured training anddevelopment programme in place such asmanagement training, Executive DevelopmentProgramme (EDP), Managerial DevelopmentProgramme (MDP) focusing on businessmanagement; engineering skills and competenciessuch as chassis and power train engineering;marketing, sales and after-sales services onoptimising customer satisfaction.

Other initiatives are designed to achieve the mostof human assets. Among the most effective isthrough the Innovative and Creative Circles (ICC),first implemented at the main factory in Shah Alam,followed by Proton Edar, Proton Parts Centre andPROTON Tanjung Malim. ICC is an activity where groups of six to tenemployees meet at specified times to discuss work-related problems, solving them using specific ICCtechniques. The groups use the ICC tools to solveeven the most pressing of problems i.e customersatisfaction and first-time right at service jobs.

Training is provided for employees to familiarisethem with ICC concepts and methodology. Sincethe implementation of ICC, there are alreadytangible benefits being reaped. The ICC providesemployees with the necessary platform to presentcreative and innovative ideas to management. Byempowering our employees, we help to inculcatea greater sense of involvement and ownership.

PROTON ICC teams have won many awards atvarious Quality conventions at the national level.These include the Gold Award at Regional NationalProductivity Centre Conventions in Northern,Southern and East Coast regions. At theinternational level, PROTON’s team from thePainting Department will be representing theCompany and Malaysia at the ICC InternationalConvention, to be held in South Korea inNovember 2005. Some PROTON personnel havealso been invited to the convention to serve on thejury panel and as facilitators.

Hari ini, PROTON mempunyai hampir 11,000kakitangan di seluruh dunia. Lebih kurang 70%daripadanya adalah pekerja teknikal, denganlebih kurang 1,000 jurutera bertugas di Malaysia,United Kingdom, Amerika Syarikat dan China.Mereka telah membina kerjaya denganSyarikat, dan sumbangan mereka sentiasadiperakui melalui majl is penghargaanperkhidmatan seperti majlis penghargaan untukkakitangan yang telah bertugas di PROTONselama 20 tahun.

Dalam PROTON terus melebarkan sayapnya ditanahair dan arena antarabangsa, salah satucabaran terhebat yang perlu dihadapi adalahdi dalam latihan dan pembangunan sumbermanusianya yang memacu sesebuahorganisasi. Sebagai sebuah Kumpulan yangmempunyai cita-cita yang besar, PROTONbergantung kepada kombinasi pengetahuan,pengalaman dan kemahiran sumber manusia.PROTON juga berusaha untuk memupuk suatupersekitaran yang selesa, menggalakkankakitangan untuk terus mendaki lengkunganpembelajaran mereka.

PROTON mempunyai pelbagai program latihandan pembangunan yang teratur seperti latihanpengurusan, Program Pembangunan Eksekutif(PPE) dan Program Pembangunan Pengurusan(PPM) yang memfokus ke arah pengurusanperniagaan; kemahiran kejuruteraan dankecekapan seperti ‘chassis’ dan kejuruteraan‘powertrain’; pemasaran, penjualan danperkhidmatan selepas jualan bagimemaksimumkan kepuasan pelanggan.

Inisiatif-inisiatif lain telah direka untuk mencapaikejayaan sepenuhnya melalui aset sumbermanusia. Antara yang paling efektif adalahmelalui Lingkungan Inovatif dan Kreatif (ICC)yang mula dilaksanakan di kilang utama diShah Alam, diikuti oleh Proton Edar, Proton PartsCentre dan PROTON Tanjung Malim. ICC kinitelah diperluaskan untuk meliputi keseluruhanjaringan pembekal dan pengedar PROTON.

ICC adalah satu aktiviti di mana kumpulan-kumpulan yang terdiri daripada enam (6) kesepuluh (10) orang kakitangan berjumpa padamasa-masa yang telah ditetapkan untukmembincangkan masalah berkaitan kerja,menyelesaikannya menggunakan teknik-teknikICC yang spesif ik. Kumpulan-kumpulan inimenggunakan kaedah-kaedah ICC untukmenyelesaikan masalah yang paling utamamisalnya kepuasan pelanggan dan kali-pertama betul kepada tugas-tugasperkhidmatan.

Latihan diberikan kepada kakitangan untukmembiasakan dir i dengan konsep danmetodologi ICC. Sejak ICC dilaksanakan, telahterdapat faedah nyata yang diperolehi. ICCmenyediakan kakitangan dengan platformyang perlu untuk meluahkan idea yang kreatifdan inovatif kepada pihak pengurusan. Denganmemberi kuasa untuk membuat keputusankepada kakitangan PROTON, ia turutmembantu untuk menanamkan semangatpembabitan yang lebih besar.

CONTRIBUTIONS TO SOCIETY

At PROTON, we consider it an obligation and aprivilege to serve the various communities inwhich we operate. PROTON continued to lendsupports to many registered charities andworthy causes, notably orphanages, academicinstitutions and various medical foundations. Thespirit of caring and sharing is one that is upheldby all our employees and this was amplydemonstrated when the tsunami struck severalAsian nations with devastating force inDecember 2004.

In line with PROTON’s growing expansion intothe international market and to build a higherprofile in the UK market in particular, PROTONsponsored the Norwich City football club in theEnglish League. Norwich is the home base ofPROTON subsidiaries, Lotus Group and PROTONCars UK. In reciprocity, the Norwich club held aseries of football clinics for schools in Malaysiaand at a Gala Dinner, raised donations forvarious charities. Among the recipients was thePersatuan Kanak-Kanak Istimewa Kajang, whichreceived financial aid to acquire equipmentand fittings for a ‘Sensory Stimulation Room’. Theroom has been designed to encourage thestimulation of the senses for children withlearning disabilities.

Funds were also channeled to the Foundationfor Community Studies and Development, ofwhich one of the projects was a provision toimprove basic amenities of the indigenouspeople in a special community at Pekan,Pahang.

PROTON has extended the support to be theofficial car sponsor for government’sinternational events such as the 13th NonAligned Movement (NAM) Summit, 10th OICSummit, NAM Women Development Seminar2005 and the 30th OIC Islamic DevelopmentBanking Conference. All these events wereconducted at Putrajaya.

Pasukan ICC PROTON telah memenangipelbagai anugerah di pelbagai konvensyenkualiti peringkat kebangsaan. Ini termasuklahAnugerah Emas di Konvensyen Pusat ProduktivitiNasional. Di peringkat antarabangsa, pasukandari Jabatan “Painting” akan mewakili PROTONdan Malaysia di Konvensyen Antarabangsa ICCyang akan diadakan di Korea Selatan padabulan November 2005. Beberapa kakitanganPROTON juga turut dijemput menghadirikonvensyen itu sebagai panel juri dan fasilitator.

TANGGUNGJAWAB SOSIAL KORPORAT

Di PROTON, kami menganggap adalah satutuntutan dan keistimewaan untuk berkhidmatkepada pelbagai komuniti di mana kamiberoperasi. PROTON terus memberikansokongan kepada pelbagai badan amalberdaftar dan untuk tujuan murni, misalnyakebajikan anak-anak yatim, institusi-institusiakademik dan pelbagai badan kesihatan.Semangat penyayang dan perkongsian adalahsesuatu yang didukung oleh semua pekerjakami dan ini telah jelas ditonjolkan apabilatsunami melanda dengan dahsyatnya dibeberapa negara Asia pada Disember 2004.

Sejajar dengan pertumbuhan pesat PROTON kepasaran antarabangsa dan untuk membentukprofi l t inggi di pasaran UK terutamanya,PROTON telah menaja kelab bolasepak NorwichCity di Liga Inggeris. Bandar Norwich adalahpusat bagi anak syarikat PROTON iaituKumpulan Lotus dan PROTON Cars UK. Sebagaibalasan, kelab bolasepak Norwich telahmengadakan sesi klinik bolasepak untuk sekolah

sekolah di Malaysia dan sumbangan untukpelbagai badan kebajikan. Di antarapenerimanya adalah Persatuan Kanak-KanakIstimewa Kajang, yang mana telah menerimabantuan untuk membeli peralatan dan “fitting”untuk sebuah “Sensory Stimulation Room”. Bi l ik tersebut telah direkabentuk untukmenggalakkan stimulasi deria bagi kanak kanakistimewa tersebut.

Sumbangan turut disalurkan ke Yayasan untukPembelajaran dan Pembangunan Komuniti, yangmana satu dari projeknya adalah peruntukkanuntuk memperbaiki kemudahan asas bagi orangasli di komuniti khas di Pekan, Pahang.

PROTON juga telah melebarkan sokongannyauntuk menjadi penaja kereta rasmi bagi acara-acara kerajaan bertaraf antarabangsaseperti Persidangan Pergerakan Negara TidakBersekutu ke-13, Persidangan OIC ke-10, SeminarPembangunan Wanita NAM 2005 danPersidangan Pembangunan Bank Islam OIC ke-30.Kesemua acara ini telah diadakan di Putrajaya.

AWARDS & RECOGNITION

When it comes to reliability on the road, PROTON carshave been found to be on par with several wellknown brands, even outclassing expensive cars. In asurvey recently conducted by Direct Line Breakdown,a major road assistance operator in the UnitedKingdom, PROTON emerged among the top five carsleast likely to suffer a mechanical breakdown.

There is no resting on PROTON laurels. The awardsand accolades that have been won will only spurPROTON to strive for greater success.

ANUGERAH DAN PENGHARGAAN

Dari segi keupayaan dan ketahanan dijalanan, kereta-kereta PROTON didapati berada pada paras yangsama dengan beberapa jenama Jepun malah mengatasisesetengah kereta yang lebih mahal. Melalui kaji-selidikyang diadakan oleh Direct Line Breakdown, sebuah syarikatoperator bantuan kerosakan kenderaan di jalanraya diUnited Kingdom, PROTON telah muncul antara 5 terbaik dariaspek kenderaan yang paling tidak berkemungkinanmengalami kerosakan mekanikal.

Usaha PROTON untuk lebih maju akan tetap diteruskankerana segala anugerah dan penghargaan yang diterimasetakat ini akan hanya membuatkan PROTON lebihterdorong untuk mencapai kejayaan yang lebih besar dimasa hadapan.
