Greetings.

Throughout 2013-2014, the essence of the journey in Faculty of Education is performing the restructuring agenda. The restructuring is seen as a proactive way in rebranding The Faculty of Education, as well as strengthening and developing its main goal in offering world-class learning in the field of education. This goal meets the policies and strategic plans of UKM towards producing a relevant, referred and respected system of education.

Since its establishment 40 years ago, the Faculty of Education has become sturdy in upholding the responsibility of steering the educational growth in accordance with complex environmental changes, the needs of providing a prestigious and competitive service along with the growing stakeholders’ anticipation. Hence, the formation of Department of Educational Leadership and Policy, Department of Teaching and Learning Innovation, and also Department of Education and Community Wellbeing, which offer all levels, from pre-school to higher education, is considered as a proactive step to assure that competitiveness is maintained. The role of Faculty has now taken the step beyond the scope of school institutional to educational organizations as the proven result of research as a nexus in the development and educational programs.

Therefore, the restructuring agenda aims to make The Faculty of Education as the main preference among the stakeholders. Our faculty offers a unique learning environment, in which our students are exposed to joining entrepreneurship education, sharing educational expertise to community and society, through educational coaching, executing fundamental and applied research in

Salam Sejahtera.

Menterjemahkan agenda penstrukturan menjadi intipati perjalanan Fakulti Pendidikan sepanjang tahun 2013-2014. Penstrukturan dilihat sebagai suatu langkah proaktif dalam menjenamakan semula Fakulti Pendidikan, serta memperkukuh dan mengembangkan misi utamanya untuk menawarkan pengajian bertaraf antarabangsa dalam bidang pendidikan. Matlamat ini diselaraskan dengan dasar dan hala tuju strategik UKM ke arah melahirkan satu sistem pendidikan yang sentiasa relevan, dirujuk dan dihormati (relevant, referred and respected)

Sejak penubuhannya lebih empat dekad lalu, Fakulti Pendidikan semakin teguh menggalas cabaran menerajui pembangunan pendidikan sejajar dengan perubahan persekitaran yang semakin kompleks, keperluan untuk menyediakan perkhidmatan yang berprestasi tinggi dan kompetitif serta harapan pemegang taruh yang semakin meningkat. Justeru, penubuhan Jabatan Kepimpinan & Polisi Pendidikan, Jabatan Inovasi Pembelajaran & Pengajaran, dan Jabatan Pendidikan & Kesejahteraan Komuniti yang menawarkan pelbagai program merentas semua peringkat pendidikan daripada pra-sekolah hingga ke peringkat pendidikan tinggi dilihat sebagai satu langkah proaktif untuk kekal berdaya saing. Perubahan peranan Fakulti yang kini melangkaui skop institusi sekolah kepada pelbagai latar organisasi pembelajaran adalah hasil penyelidikan yang menjadi asas dalam pembangunan dan penawaran program pendidikan.

Sejajar dengan itu, agenda penstrukturan menghasratkan Fakulti Pendidikan menjadi pilihan utama dalam kalangan pelbagai pemegang taruh. Fakulti menawarkan iklim

pembelajaran yang unik, antaranya pelajar di Fakulti didedahkan serta dilibatkan dalam keusahawanan berasaskan pendidikan, berkongsi kepakaran pendidikan kepada komuniti dan masyarakat, melalui ‘educational coaching’ dan menjalankan penyelidikan bersifat asas dan aplikasi yang membawa impak ke atas komuniti, masyarakat dan ilmu pendidikan.

Pencapaian Fakulti Pendidikan

Fakulti Pendidikan meneruskan kecemerlangan dengan pelbagai kejayaan dan pencapaian memberangsangkan dalam pelbagai bidang sepanjang tahun 2013-2014. Pertamanya, dari segi penarafan, Fakulti Pendidikan tersenarai dalam kelompok 100 terbaik dalam bidang pendidikan di rantau Asia oleh QS World University Ranking pada tahun 2014. Kedudukan ini merupakan salah satu indikator pencapaian Fakulti dalam aspek ERK dan pencapaian ini harus ditingkatkan.

Seterusnya, di bawah portfolio penyelidikan, persidangan dan inovasi beberapa pencapaian penting dicatatkan. Sepanjang tahun 2013-2014 pelbagai dana penyelidikan daripada pelbagai sumber dalam negara, khususnya dana penyelidikan daripada Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia, sumber luar dan bukan kerajaan telah diperolehi. Sejumlah RM6,736,013.47 dana penyelidikan berjaya dikumpulkan. Selaras dengan matlamat untuk memperkasakan penyelidikan melalui penerbitan, pelbagai bentuk penerbitan telah dihasilkan dalam pelbagai bentuk antaranya dalam jurnal berwasit, jurnal tidak berwasit, buku, bab dalam buku, prosiding persidangan, dan lain-lain. Sepanjang tahun 2013-2014 sejumlah 344 artikel telah berjaya diterbitkan, dan daripada jumlah tersebut 253 adalah artikel berindeks. Manakala bagi buku, sejumlah 29 buah buku dan 67 bab dalam buku telah dihasilkan. Syabas kepada ahli Fakulti atas kejayaan ini.

Dalam masa yang sama perkongsian ilmu diteruskan melalui penganjuran persidangan, bengkel dan kolokium. Fakulti Pendidikan telah menjadi tuan rumah kepada beberapa persidangan bertaraf kebangsaan dan antarabangsa, antaranya ialah pada tahun 2013, Seminar Pendidikan Serantau UKM-UNRI dan Seminar Regional Conference School Structure and Teacher Competence, Duties & Character (RESTEC), manakala pada 2014, The 4th International Conference of Learner Diversity (ICELD), Seminar Wacana Pendidikan Islam, dan Seminar International Global Education. Pada masa yang sama, saya ingin melahirkan penghargaan kepada ahli akademik yang

giving impacts to the community, society, and educational knowledge.

Our Achievement

The Faculty of Education continues to pursue its excellence in momentous achievements through numerous fields for the year 2013-2014. Most importantly, in the field of education, our Faculty is ranked in the top 100 by QA World University Ranking: Asia in 2014. This remarkable accomplishment is an indicator of our Faculty’s performance in the aspect of ERK and should be continued to build on.

Under the research portfolio, significant researches, conferences, and several innovations were recorded. In the year 2013-2014, a total of RM6,736,013.47 was attained from various sources for the research funding throughout the country especially from Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), outside and non-governmental sources. In line with the objective of strengthening research through publication, a lot of publications have been made including journals, books, book chapters, conference proceedings and much more. Other than that, our Faculty has published 29 books, 67 book chapters and 344 articles whereby 253 of them are indexed articles. Congratulations to our faculty members for this tremendous achievement.

Simultaneously, continuous knowledge sharing is sustained by organizing conferences, workshops, and colloquiums. The Faculty of Education has been the host for several

telah mengharumkan nama Fakulti dan mengungguli bidang kepakaran masing-masing dengan meraih anugerah inovasi penyelidikan dalam pameran penyelidikan di peringkat kebangsaan dan antarabangsa. Hasilnya 14 hakcipta inovasi Fakulti Pendidikan telah didaftarkan.

Pengajaran dan Khidmat Sokongan

Peranan Fakulti Pendidikan sebagai pemangkin kesarjanaan dan kecemerlangan terus diperluaskan melalui pelaksanaan kursus-kursus jangka pendek seperti Program Intervensi Tambah Opsyen (PITO), kursus pensijilan guru-guru Kolej Komuniti, Program Eksekutif Pendidikan, Program Diploma Eksekutif Autisme, dan Program Doktor Pendidikan Tinggi. Ini menyaksikan peningkatan Fakulti mengadakan hubungan kerjasama dengan agensi luar menyokong matlamat pembelajaran berterusan berteraskan pembangunan professional dan peningkatan kerjaya.

Matlamat melahirkan modal insan yang berkualiti dan berimpak tinggi dalam ruang lingkup pendidikan terus menjadi agenda Fakulti Pendidikan. Proses pembelajaran

yang lebih terbuka di luar konteks bilik darjah mula dipraktikkan. Antaranya Program Mobiliti Pelajar dilihat sebagai satu alternatif kepada pelajar memperoleh pengalaman pendidikan yang ditawarkan di luar Negara. Beberapa orang pelajar telah diberikan peluang mengikuti program mobiliti seperti, Asean Youth Volunteer Program (AYVP), Global Student Mobility Partnership, 2013, Training Researchers on the Impact Project di Paris.

Seterusnya, dalam mendukung matlamat jaringan universiti-komuniti, Fakulti Pendidikan telah memperluaskan perkongsian pengetahuan, kepakaran dan jaringan kerjasama, sumber dan kemudahan dalam memacu perubahan komuniti sekeliling. Program Bitara STEM misalnya antara program berimpak tinggi Fakulti bertujuan meningkatkan penglibatan pelajar dalam bidang sains,

international and national conferences, for example Regional Education Seminar UKM-UNRI and Regional Conference School Structure and Teacher Competence, Duties & Character (RESTEC) Seminar in 2013, The 4th International Conference of Learner Diversity (ICELD), Islamic Educational Discourse Seminar, and International Global Education Seminar in 2014. At this juncture, I wish to extend my appreciation and gratitude for our academicians who have made the Faculty proud in their respective fields of expertise by securing innovation research awards in research exhibitions nationally and internationally. The outcome is, 14 copyrights of innovation under The Faculty of Education were registered.

Learning and Support Services

The role of Faculty in striving excellence continues to develop through the implementation of short-term courses such as Additional Options Intervention Programme [Program Intervensi Tambah Opsyen (PITO)], certification courses for Community College Teachers, Executive Education Program, Executive Diploma in Autism Program and Higher Education

Doctoral Program. This results in cooperation with external agencies to support the learning goals in professional growth and career development basis.

The goal of developing high-quality human capital which tends to have a great impact on the educational scope is still a firm agenda in Faculty of Education. Learning outside of the classroom context has now been applied and students gain countless experience especially through the Students’ Mobility Program where several students were selected to join the ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program (AYVP), Global Student Mobility Partnership 2013, and Training Researchers on the Impact Project in Paris.

Preserving the goal of university-community relations, The Faculty of Education has widening its reach to knowledge,

teknologi kejuruteraan dan matematik. Antara objektif program ini adalah menyuntik minat pelajar untuk belajar STEM, memupuk kemahiran saintifik dan kemahiran abad ke-21 di kalangan pelajar.

Di bawah flagship khidmat masyarakat, pusat IRIS meneruskan agenda membantu golongan terpinggir dan tersisih. Antara aktiviti yang dijalankan adalah ceramah umum, program pembangunan insan anak-anak miskin Bangi, dan program kesukarelawanan. Ceramah umum, satu lagi inisiatif Fakulti berkongsi kepakaran kepada masyarakat, khususnya kepada guru-guru sebagai program Latihan Dalam Perkhidmatan (LADAP). Selain itu projek kerjasama dengan Lembaga Zakat Selangor untuk mengasah kecemerlangan akademik anak-anak asnaf telah memasuki fasa kedua. Adalah besar harapan saya agar IRIS akan terus memberikan impak besar kepada pembangunan komuniti setempat.

Gagasan KRA satu Cetusan Reformasi

UKM telah memperkenalkan enam (6) Bidang Keberhasilan Utama (Key Results Areas-KRA) yang menjadi dasar kepada tadbir urus universiti. Gagasan ini dilihat sebagai satu prakarsa yang proaktif dalam merangka strategi mewujudkan perkhidmatan pendidikan kelas pertama. Justeru, bagi Fakulti menterjemahkan maksud KRA merupakan jejak tugas yang perlu dilaksanakan.

Pertanggungjawaban memimpin sesebuah organisasi untuk mencapai kejayaan yang cemerlang adalah satu amanah yang mencabar bagi seorang Dekan. Walau bagaimanapun matlamat tersebut mampu dicapai melalui elemen kebersamaan dan kekitaan. Dengan makna lain, memerlukan kesediaan, komitmen serta kerjasama yang erat dan padu daripada semua pihak. Melalui penglibatan semua pihak, saya yakin dan percaya kita berupaya menjana kekuatan, daya kuasa dan kebijaksanaan untuk merealisasikan misi KRA.

Akhir kata, saya mengajak semua pihak untuk bersama menyumbang idea, tenaga dan kepakaran untuk kita bersama-sama melonjakkan Fakulti Pendidikan sebagai institusi yang mengupayakan masyarakat setempat. Dengan keterlibatan semua pihak, saya yakin dan percaya bahawa niat suci murni ini mampu direalisasikan dengan jayanya.

One of the high-impacts programs in our faculty is The Bitara STEM Program that wishes to increase the involvement rate of our students in science, engineering and mathematics technology. The objective of the program is to increase their interest in learning STEM, build up not only their scientific skills but also their 21st century skills.

Under the flagship of community service, the IRIS centre has kept the momentum in providing help to people in need. Many activities have been conducted namely public talks, human capital development program for poor kids in Bangi, and volunteer program. Public talk is one of our Faculty’s initiatives in sharing the expertise with the community under the program of In-Service Training (LADAP), especially for teachers. Besides that, the collaboration with Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) in order to equip the young generations (Asnaf) has made its way to the second phase. I hope that IRIS will continue to give great impacts on local community development.

Key Results Areas – A New Reformation

UKM has introduced 6 Key Results Areas (KRAs) that provides the ground to govern its administration. This initiative is seen as a proactive one in outlining the strategy of building a first-world class education services. On that note, it is also a responsibility of our Faculty in realizing the KRAs.

As a Dean, leading an organization to strive for excellence is not an easy task. Nonetheless, by continuing to increase the level of inclusiveness and transparency, it makes the mission seems possible. Working together hand in hand, I am in no doubt that we possess the commitment and joint effort to be able to foster strength, power and intelligence

in fulfilling the mission of KRAs.

To summarize, I wish to encourage all of us to contribute ideas, strength and our expertise in together making Faculty of Education as an

institution that empowers the local community. With strong commitment and full support from each one of us, I believe this pure intention would be achieved successfully.

LATAR BELAKANGPusat Pendidikan Kepelbagaian Pelajar atau Center of Learner’s Diversity yang telah ditubuhkan pada tahun 2003. Pusat ini merupakan pusat penyelidikan terulung di bawah naungan Fakulti Pendidikan, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Pada waktu ini, kepakaran ahli-ahli Pusat Pendidikan Kepelbagaian Pelajar (yang juga pensyarah-pensyarah di Fakulti Pendidikan) telah mula dikenali di negara ini apabila diberi kepercayaan mengendalikan kajian-kajian yang ditaja melalui geran dari pelbagai sumber.

VISIVisi Pusat Pendidikan Kepelbagaian Pelajar ialah untuk menjadi pusat rujukan terulung bagi ilmu dan amalan kepelbagaian dalam Pendidikan.

MISIMisi yang dibawa oleh Pusat ini ialah untuk menyokong kesaksamaan peluang pendidikan melalui aktiviti penyelidikan serta penyebaran ilmu yang berasaskan kepelbagaian pelajar.

INTRODUCTIONCentre for Learner Diversity (CLD) is the research and development centre of Faculty of Education, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Established in 2003, the current has conducted research concerning issues in education especially related to learner diversity. Learner diversity refers to all inclusive, collective mixture of human differences and similarities along a given dimension. Dimensions of diversity include culture, ethnicity, religion, age, disability, learning styles, educational background, and personality.

VisionTo become a Centre of Excellence on research regarding learner diversity.

MissionTo promote advocate learner diversity issues through research and development.

Objectives1. To conduct basic and applied research on learner diversity that have

1. LATAR BELAKANG

Pusat Penilaian Pendidikan atau Centre of Educational Evaluation (CEDEV) ini ditubuhkan sebagai pusat kecemerlangan di Fakulti Pendidikan. Pusat ini telah diluluskan penubuhannya pada Disember 2010. Pusat Penilaian Pendidikan adalah pusat pengembangan kajian ilmu pengukuran merangkumi pelbagai bidang. Pusat ini menjana kepakaran khusus dan sumber tenaga manusia yang mahir dalam penyelidikan pengujian, pengukuran dan penilaian dalam pendidikan melalui penyelidikan tempatan atau watan yang akan membolehkan pusat ini menjadi sebuah pusat kecemerlangan peringkat kebangsaan san serantau yang setanding dengan pusat kecemerlangan seumpamanya di luar negara. Pusat ini juga menjadi pusat penyelidikan dan rujukan bagi perkara-perkara berkaitan dengan pembangunan program pengujian, pengukuran dan penilaian terutama sekali melalui pendekatan pembangunan insan masa kini.

3. OBJEKTIF PENUBUHAN

Untuk menjalankan penyelidikan bagi melakukan pemantauan terhadap semua aktiviti pengajaran dan pembelajaran, penyelidikan, penerbitan dan membuat keputusan berasaskan data statistik yang betul dan memastikan keseragaman dan keberkesanan pendekatan dan terdapat peningkatan graduan siswazah yang menjalankan penyelidikan. Pusat ini akan memastikan penambahbaikan yang berterusan agar program pengujian, pengukuran dan penilaian dapat dilaksanakan secara berterusan. Untuk berkongsi hasil penemuan penyelidikan di Fakulti Pendidikan dan fakulti-fakulti lain di UKM dalam usaha ke arah mewujudkan program pengujian, pengukuran dan penilaian berasaskan model Fakulti Pendidikan UKM dan seterusnya menjadi sebahagian dari ekosistem UKM secara keseluruhannya. Untuk berkongsi hasil penemuan penyelidikan melalui pembentangan kertas kerja di peringkat kebangsaan dan antarabangsa bagi mengharumkan nama UKM di persada dunia. Adalah diharapkan satu model pendekatan pendidikan pengujian, pengukuran dan penilaian dapat diperkenalkan dan dipindahkan teknologinya ke negara-negara lain di rantau Asia dan lain-lain amnya.

1. BACKGROUND

Centre of Educational Evaluation (CEDEV) was established as a center of excellence in the Faculty of Education. The establishment of the center was approved in December 2010. Centre of Educational Evaluation is a center for research and development for knowledge on evaluation which covers various fields. The center generates specific expertise and skilled human resources in research testing, measurement and evaluation in education through local or indigenous research that will enable the center to become a center of excellence in national and regional levels which is comparable with similar centers of excellence outside the country. The center is also a research and reference center for matters related to program development testing, measurement and evaluation, especially through human development approach nowadays.

3. OBJECTIVES OF ESTABLISHMENT

To conduct research for the monitoring of all activities of teaching and learning, research, publications and make a decision based on correct

statistical data and ensure the consistency and effectiveness of the approach and the increase the number of graduates who are conducting research. The center will ensure a continuous improvement to the test, measurement and assessment programs to be carried out continuously. To share the findings of research in the Faculty of Education and other faculties in UKM in order to create a program of testing, measurement and evaluation based on the model developed by Faculty of Education, UKM, and become part of the ecosystem of UKM as a whole. To share research results through presentations at national and international level to raise the name of UKM worldwide. It is hoped that a model educational approach of testing, measurement and evaluation can be introduced and transferred its technology to other countries in the Asian region and others in general.

i) Bengkel ini dikendalikan oleh pegawai-pegawai dari Lembaga Peperiksaan Malaysia, Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia.

ii) Peserta terdiri 37 orang pensyarah Fakulti Pendidikan, UKM.iii) Bengkel ini memberi penerangan dan kefahaman tentang PBS yang dilaksanakan di

sekolah-sekolah KPM kepada peserta. iv) Bahan-bahan yang dibekalkan oleh Lembaga Peperiksaan diedarkan dalam e-mel

should be held.b) Workshop on PBS should be organized for trainee teachers who would involve in

practicum the following year.

This workshop gives emphasis on the pedagogy that uses an approach of HOT (Higher Order Thinking) skills which is also known as TBL (Thinking Base-Learning). Participants are comprised of 70 students from Faculty of Education, UKM, and teachers from Hulu Langat District.

Makmal Penyelidikan Pendidikan Awal Kanak-kanak yang dikenali sebagai Tunas Permata, Fakulti Pendidikan UKM (TPFPUKM) adalah sebuah organisasi yang menawarkan perkhidmatan Taska dan Tadika untuk kanak-kanak yang berumur antara 2 bulan sehingga 6 tahun. Program ini dikelolakan oleh Jawatankuasa Tunas Permata, Fakulti Pendidikan, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Tunas Permata juga telah diberikan status Makmal Penyelidikan Universiti yang diletakkan di bawah pengurusan Fakulti Pendidikan sejak tahun 2009. TPFPUKM merupakan salah satu portfolio Hal Ehwal Jaringan Industri, Alumni, Masyarakat dan Antarabangsa Fakulti Pendidikan (HEJIMA), UKM yang dipengerusikan oleh Profesor Dr. Nor Aishah Buang selaku Timbalan Dekan HEJIMA dan juga merangkap sebagai Pengerusi TPFPUKM. Aktiviti di Tunas Permata dirangka sepanjang tahun bagi memenuhi keperluan kanak-kanak serta ibu bapa dan kakitangan Tunas Permata, UKM. Pelbagai aktiviti telah dijalankan sepanjang tahun 2013 dan 2014 bagi memenuhi keperluan kurikulum Pendidikan Awal Kanak-kanak seperti pembelajaran bertema, literasi, fizikal, sosial, kognitif, sains, dan numerasi melalui projek kecil, dan lain-lain aktiviti bagi menyuburkan jati diri. Bagi menyokong objektif kurikulum pelbagai aktiviti lain diadakan seperti taklimat kepada ibu bapa, guru-guru dan juga lawatan dari agensi luar seperti klinik kesihatan dan bomba, serta lawatan ke luar oleh kanak-kanak seperti ke zoo dan planetarium.

TUNAS PERMATA 2013 / 2014Fakulti Pendidikan

Research Laboratory of Early Childhood Education, known as Tunas Permata, UKM (TPFPUKM) is an organization that offers nursery and kindergarten for children aged between 2 months to 6 years. The program is organized by the committee members of Tunas Permata, Faculty of Education, the National University of Malaysia. Tunas Permata has also been granted the status of University Research Laboratory which is under the management of the Faculty of Education since 2009. TPFPUKM is a portfolio of Industry Affairs, Alumni, Public and International Affairs Faculty of Education (HEJIMA), UKM, chaired by Professor Dr. Nor Aishah Buang as Deputy Dean of HEJIMA and also serves as Chairman TPFPUKM. Activities in Tunas Permata was planned throughout the year to meet the needs of children and parents, and staff of Tunas Permata, UKM. Various activities were carried out during 2013 and 2014 to meet the curriculum needs of Early Childhood Education as thematic learning, literacy, physical, social, cognitive science, and numeracy through small projects, and other activities to foster self-esteem. To support the objectives of the curriculum, various other activities were held such a briefing for parents, teachers and visits from outside agencies such as health clinics and firefighters, as well as foreign travel by children such as the zoo and the planetarium.

MAKMAL PEMBELAJARAN AUTISME UKM (MAIA)

Makmal Pembelajaran Autisme UKM was operation on January 3rd 2009. The purpose of the establishment of the lab is to conduct research on autism. Initially this lab was set up for the research purposed, where the head researcher Associate Professor Dr Hasnah Toran received a RM108, 000 research grants for Designing and Developing A Module to Educate Children with Autism (UKM-GUP-KRIB-7/2008).

The operation cost is also financed by the UKM Special Children Trust Funds. In 2013, the lab acquired a new RM200, 000 building from the university.

Until now, MaIA has produced 7 tittles, 6 intellectual properties (copyright) and organized more than 60 workshops on autism.

10 students from the lab have qualified for government school.

Makmal Pembelajaran Autisme UKM (MaIA) mula beroperasi pada 3 Januari 2009. Tujuan utama penubuhan MaIA adalah bagi menjalankan penyelidikan mengenai autisme. Pada peringkat awal, Makmal ini dibangunkan bagi tujuan penyelidikan. Dimana Ketua Penyelidik Prof. Madya Dr. Hasnah Toran, berjaya memperolehi Geran Universiti Penyelidikan berjumlah RM108, 000.00 bagi menjalankan penyelidikan bertajuk Merekabentuk dan Membangunkan Modul untuk Mendidik Kanak-kanak Autis (UKM-GUP-KRIB-7/2008).

Kos operasi MaIA turut dibiayai oleh Tabung Amanah Kanak-Kanak Istimewa UKM. Pada tahun 2013, MaIA telah menerima satu bangunan baru yang bernilai RM200, 000.00 from pihak universiti.

Sehingga kini, MaIA telah berjaya menghasilkan 7 buah buku, 6 hak intelek (hakcipta) dan menganjurkan lebih daripada 60 bengkel mengenai autisme.

10 orang pelajar Makmal juga telah berjaya mendapat tempat di sekolah kerajaan.

MAJLIS PENGIKTIRAFAN PENYELIA DAN PEMAKAIAN JUBAH GRADUAN DOKTOR FALSAFAH 2014

Dari sudut sejarahnya Majlis Pengiktirafan Penyelia dan Pemakaian Jubah Graduan Doktor Falsafah pertama kali dianjurkan pada tahun 2011. Majlis yang julung-julung kalinya diadakan pada tahun tersebut di peringkat Universiti telah mendapat sambutan yang menggalakkan dengan keahlian jemputan yang terdiri daripada graduan Doktor Falsafah dan penyelia yang hadir bagi memeriahkan majlis. Pada tahun 2014 setiap Pusat Tanggungjawab (PTJ) diberi tanggungjawab untuk mengadakan majlis ini di peringkat PTJ masing-masing dan sekali lagi majlis ini menerima sambutan yang tidak kurang hebatnya dengan lebih 90% graduan Doktor Falsafah Fakulti Pendidikan hadir bagi meraikan majlis ini bersama penyelia masing-masing. Majlis yang diadakan pada 31 Oktober 2014 (Jumaat) ini bertujuan memberi pengiktirafan kepada penyelia-penyelia yang telah berjaya menghasilkan graduan Doktor Falsafah Fakulti Pendidikan, di samping untuk meraikan graduan Doktor Falsafah yang telah menamatkan pengajian dengan jayanya dan akan menerima ijazah pada Majlis Konvokesyen UKM Ke-42 yang akan diadakan pada 1 hingga 4 November 2014. Pada tahun ini, seramai 63 graduan Fakulti Pendidikan (sehingga Senat 24 Oktober 2014) dari pelbagai bidang telah berjaya memperoleh Ijazah Doktor Falsafah. Ini merupakan jumlah yang besar dan ia amat membanggakan. Selain daripada itu, Majlis ini juga bertujuan mengiktiraf graduan yang cemerlang dalam pengajiannya.

THE CEREMONY OF RECOGNITION OF SUPERVISORS AND APPLICATION OF ROBE FOR PHD GRADUATES 2014

Historically speaking, The Ceremony of Recognition of Supervisors and Application of Robe for PhD Graduates was first held in the year 2011. The ceremony which was conducted as a debut in that year at the university level was given a tremendous response and was attended by invited members consisting of PhD graduates and supervisors who enlivened the event. In 2014 all Centers of Response and Ability [Pusat Tanggungjawab] (PTJ) was entrusted to organize the ceremony at their respective Centers and again the ceremony received the same overwhelming response with more than 90% PhD Graduates from Faculty of Education who attended the event with their respective supervisors. The objective of the ceremony which was held on 31 October 2014 (Friday) was to convey acknowledgment to all supervisors, who have successfully produced PhD Graduates in Faculty of Education, besides celebrating the PhD Graduates in Faculty of Education who had just completed their studies successfully, and would receive their PhD scroll during the 42nd UKM Convocation Ceremony which was held from 1 - 4 November 2014. This year witnessed 63 graduates from Faculty of Education (from Senate 24 October 2014) from various fields of studies who have successfully attained their Doctor of Philosophy. It is a great number and seems very encouraging. In addition, the ceremony also aims to recognize graduates who are excellent in their studies.

Seminar Siswazah merupakan program yang diadakan bagi pelajar Doktor Falsafah dan Sarjana membentangkan tesis di peringkat usulan, kemajuan dan pemantapan. Seminar ini diadakan pada setiap 2 bulan sekali dan pada tahun 2013 sebanyak tiga kali seminar ini telah diadakan di Residen Hotel UNITEN. Pada tahun 2014, seminar Siswazah telah berjalan dengan lancar mengikut jadual yang ditetapkan dan kesemuanya telah diadakan di Fakulti Pendidikan UKM.

Graduate Seminar is a program held for PhD and Masters students to present their theses at the level of proposal, progress and correction. These seminars are held every two months and this seminar was held three times in 2013 at Residence Hotel UNITEN. In the year 2014, Graduate Seminar was smoothly conducted according to the designated plan and all were conducted in the Faculty of Education UKM.

Seramai 3,867 pelajar telah memohon untuk masuk ke program pengajian prasiswazah Fakulti Pendidikan, UKM ambilan 2014/2015 bagi program Pendidikan Khas, TESL dan Pendidikan Sukan Rekreasi. Daripada senarai tersebut, hanya 411 calon yang berjaya dalam Ujian Mesdsi yang dikendalikan oleh UPSI seluruh Negara telah dipanggail untuk temuduga dan menjalani ujian kecerdasan bagi calon-calon Pendidikan Sukan dan Rekreasi. Temuduga telah diadakan di tiga pusat seperti berikut:

i. Pusat UKM pada 16,17 & 18 Jun 2014 ii. Pusat Sarawak (IPG Batu Lintang, Kuching ) pada 16 Jun 2014 iii. Sabah (UMS, Kota Kinabalu) pada 16 & 17 Jun 2014

56 orang pensyarah Fakulti Pendidikan UKM terlibat dalam temuduga di ketiga-tiga pusat temuduga tersebut. Temuduga bermula jam 8.30 hingga 4.30 petang. Seramai 129 orang pelajar berjaya dalam temuduga yang diadakan (Pendidikan Sukan dan Rekreasi 35, Pendidikan TESL 48 dan Pendidikan Khas 46).

PENDAFTARAN PELAJAR BARU PRASISWAZAH SESI 2014/2015

Pendaftaran pelajar baru prasiswazah yang terpilih untuk melanjutkan pengajian ke peringkat ijazah sarjanamuda bagi sesi 2014/2015 di UKM pada 28 Ogos 2014 telah membuka lembaran baru apabila pertama kalinya setiap fakulti mengadakan hari terbuka kepada semua pelajar dan anggota keluarga mereka. Pihak pengurusan universiti yang diketuai oleh Naib Canselor dan Timbalan-Timbalan Naib Canselor telah mengadakan lawatan ke beberapa fakulti untuk mengalu-alukan pelajar baru dan keluarga pada hari terbuka tersebut. Di Fakulti Pendidikan, Timbalan Naib Cancelor Hal-Ehwal Akademik dan Antarabangsa Yang Barbahagia Profesor Dato’ Ir. Dr. Riza Atiq O. K. Rahmat mengetuai pihak pengurusan universiti mengadakan lawatan ke rumah terbuka Fakulti Pendidikan serta beramah mesra dengan pelajar baru dan keluarga mereka. Bertempat di Dewan Budiman, sambutan daripada ibu bapa dan keluarga kepada pelajar baru sangat menggalakkan. Ramai pensyarah fakulti turut serta pada hari terbuka peringkat fakulti. Mereka telah mengadakan perbincangan dan penerangan kepada pelajar baru dan ibu bapa pada hari pendaftaran tersebut. Selain itu pameran tentang program pengajian peringkat prasiswazah dan menyelidikan ahli-ahli fakulti telah diadakan di hadapan Dewan Budiman. Ibu bapa telah mengambil peluang ini untuk mendapatkan maklumat berkaitan Fakulti Pendidikan.

A total of 3,867 students have applied for admission to the undergraduate program of the Faculty of Education, SME uptake for the 2014/2015 program of Special Education, TESL Education and Sport. From the list, only 411 successful candidates Mesdsi Test conducted by the National UPSI be called for an interview and undergo intelligence tests for the candidates of Education Sports and Recreation. Interview was conducted at three centers as follows:

NEW UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT ENROLLMENT SESSION 2014/2015

Registration of new undergraduate students elected to pursue undergraduate degrees in UKM for 2014/2015 session on August 28, 2014 has opened a new chapter when the first time every faculty hold an open day for all students and their family members. University management led by the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor has visited several faculties to welcome new students and families at the open day. The Faculty of Education, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and International Yang Barbahagia Professor Dato ‘Ir. Dr. Riza Atiq OK Rahmat leading university management visited the open house the Faculty of Education and mingle with new students and their families. Housed in Dewan Budiman, the response from parents and family to new students is very encouraging. Many faculty lecturers participated in the open day at faculty level. They held discussions and presentations to new students and parents on the day of registration. Besides the exhibition of an undergraduate program of study and investigating faculty members was held in front of the Dewan Budiman. Parents have to take this opportunity to obtain information on the Faculty of Education.

SEMAKAN DAN PENSTRUKTURAN SEMULA PROGRAM PRASISWAZAH FAKULTI PENDIDIKAN

Semakan dan penstrukturan semula program prasiswazah Fakulti Pendidikan telah dijalankan sejak tahun 2013. Usaha ini dijalankan selaras dengan penstrukturan semula fakulti dan penambahbaikan program yang sedia ada bagi memenuhi keperluan semasa dan MQA. Beberapa siri bengkel dan perbincangan bersama pensyarah telah diadakan. Selain itu perbincangan juga dijalankan dengan pemegang taruh untuk mendapatkan maklum balas tentang graduan lepasan Fakulti Pendidikan UKM. Diharapkan semakan dan penstrukturan semula ketiga-tiga program: TESL, pendidikan khas, dan pendidikan sukan dan rekreasi dapat dilakukan sebelum ambilan pelajar baru bagi sesi 2015/2016. Usaha ini perlu dilaksanakan bagi melahirkan graduan yang lebih kompetatif dan inovatif serta berpengetahuan untuk menjadi seorang pendidik yang berilmu, berkemahiran bagi memenuhi aspirasi Negara.

CHECKING AND RESTRUCTURING PROGRAM FACULTY UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION

Revision and restructuring of the undergraduate program of the Faculty of Education has been conducted since 2013. The business is run in line with the restructuring of the faculty and improvement of existing programs to meet current and MQA. A series of workshops and discussions with lecturers was held. In addition, discussions were also conducted with stakeholders to get feedback on graduate UKM. Expected revision and restructuring of the three programs: TESL, special education, and educational and recreational sports can be done before the new student intake for the 2015/2016 session. This effort should be undertaken to develop a more competitive, innovative and knowledge to become an educator who is knowledgeable, skilled to meet the aspirations of the State.

4th September 2014 Blog Creation Workshop (Blogger)

In spite of low number of participants attending the course, the two ways interaction between facilitator and participants was very impressive. Seemingly, those who attended the workshop were among those who are very eager in developing own blog yet (in general) they did not have basic skills to do so. Overall, the objectives lined were successfully achieved as all the participants managed to create own blog. They were not just succeeded in creating normal ‘post’ but the blogs also contained pages that enable them to classify materials when uploading onto their blogs.

The briefing was focusing on i-Folio as a platform for Learning Management System to undergraduate students who registered for Semester 1 2014-2015

3rd September 2014i-Folio briefing to Masters students

The utilizing i-Folio as a platform for Learning Management System was presented to all Masters Students who registered for Semester 1 2014-2015.

1st October 2014i-Folio Workshop

i-Folio workshop was among the activities lined in series of internal courses under e-learning coordinator portfolio. In conjunction with the Nation e-Learning Policies to make sure that every course in higher education institute to run blended learning for at least 50% of the courses, four main criteria had been evaluated for the course to be certified as Blended Learning.

v. Badge Presentation Ceremony for Courses that achieved Blended Learning Criteria in i-Folio

In conjunction with 260th Faculty Meeting on 19th November 2014, a badge presentation ceremony was held specially for those lecturers who managed to achieve blended learning standard for their courses. A number of 51 badges were presented by the Dean of Faculty of Education, Prof. Dr. Lilia Halim.

4 September 2014Bengkel Pembinaan Blog (Blogger)

Meskipun peserta yang hadir dalam kuantiti yang agak rendah, interaksi dua hala antara fasilitator bengkel dengan para peserta amat memberangsangkan. Ternyata, peserta yang hadir memang benar-benar berminat untuk menghasilkan blog sendiri, dan terdiri daripada mereka yang tidak mempunyai asas dalam pembinaan blog secara menyeluruh. Secara keseluruhan, objektif yang diletakkan berjaya dicapai di mana kesemua peserta mampu menghasilkan blog yang bukan sekadar merupakan ‘posting’ semata-mata, tetapi juga mengandungi ‘pages’ yang membolehkan mereka mengklasifikasikan bahan untuk dimuatkan dalam blog mereka.

1 Oktober 2014Bengkel i-Folio

Bengkel i-Folio merupakan aktiviti kedua dalam rangka siri kursus dalaman di bawah portfolio Penyelaras e-Pembelajaran. Bertepatan dengan Dasar e-Pembelajaran Negara yang mencetuskan ilham agar setiap kursus di IPT dilaksanakan secara Pembelajaran Teradun atau ‘Blended Learning’ iaitu sekurang-kurangnya sebanyak 50%, pihak Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia telah memasukkan empat kriteria utama yang perlu dicapai untuk menjadikan sesuatu kursus itu bertaraf ‘Blended Learning’.

v. Majlis Penyampaian Badge untuk Kursus-kursus yang Mencapai kriteria Blended Learning di i-Folio

Sempena Mesyuarat Fakulti ke-260 pada 19 November 2014, satu majlis penyampaian badge untuk pensyarah-pensyarah bagi kursus yang mencapai kriteria Blended Learning telah diadakan. Penyampaian badge melibatkan sebanyak 51 kursus atau set. Penyampaian badge dilaksanakan oleh Dekan Fakulti, yang Berbahagia Prof. Dr. Lilia Halim.

AbstractCamp of Leadership and Appreciation of Nature 2013 provides an opportunity for trainee teachers to interact with each other, strengthen ties, and also build leadership skills as a knowledge base for future educators. In addition, this program improves intrapersonal and interpersonal communication skills of trainees. This camp aims to provide an opportunity for participants to make adequate preparation in terms of leadership and this would be beneficial to those who will face future teaching practice in schools. PENGENALAN

Fakulti Pendidikan mempunyai tiga jabatan yang sesuai dengan analogi ini iaitu Jabatan Inovasi Pedagogi (jalan raya yang dipilih), Jabatan Kepimpinan dan Polisi Pendidikan (Pemandu kenderaan) dan Jabatan Pendidikan dan Kesejahteraan Masyarakat (objektif pembelajaran). Flagship khidmat masyarakat ini direkabentuk untuk mencapai matlamat akhir usaha pendidikan iaitu dari satu tahap pencapaian yang lebih rendah kepada satu tahap pencapaian yang lebih tinggi. Apabila pencapaian ini berlaku, ia dinamakan satu transformasi kepada anak didik yang diberikan pendidikan tersebut. Kesan transformasi pencapaian oleh seseorang ini adalah kesejahteraan hidup dari pelbagai aspek seperti peningkatan kemahiran, pendapatan, kualiti hidup dan keterlibatan dalam masyarakat arus perdana. Maka sebab itulah asas kepada program khidmat masyarakat Fakulti Pendidikan adalah transformasi pendidikan masyarakat yang terpilih. Dan IRIS adalah kependekan yang dipilih sebagai simbol dan bunga orkid Iris dipilih sebagai lambang kepada program ini kerana motonya yang sangat sesuai dengan ciri program ini iaitu “It survived and remained purple during the cold and snow. It seems to be doing fine in the heat as well”.

LATAR BELAKANG

Fakulti Pendidikan memberi khidmat pendidikan kepada golongan masyarakat yang dinamakan ‘masyarakat berisiko’. Masyarakat berisiko pula terbahagi kepada dua golongan iaitu golongan terpinggir dan golongan tersisih. Golongan terpinggir (marginalized group) merupakan golongan minoriti yang kurang bernasib baik kerana sebab-sebab tertentu manakala golongan tersisih (abandoned group)

pula merupakan golongan yang tidak dapat menyertai aktiviti kehidupan masyarakat arus perdana. Kawasan tumpuan program IRIS ini adalah sekitar Hulu Langat, Bandar Baru Bangi, Bangi Lama, Semenyih dan Beranang.

PENDEKATAN PELAKSANAAN PROGRAM

Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah tiga cara iaitu:1) serapan dalam kursus-kursus utama fakulti dan kursus-kursus lain

peringkat sarjanamuda dan sarjana; 2) melalui program khas atas permintaan pihak luar (masyarakat atau

industry) yang berlaku di luar program sarjanamuda dan sarjana;3) melalui Geran HEJIM yang tidak sesuai untuk diserap dalam kursus-kursus

fakulti.

Walau bagaimana pun, selepas ini satu penyelarasan bentuk aktiviti atau progam akan dibuat supaya konsisten, berterusan dan lestari sehingga nampak hasil dan impaknya kepada sesuatu kumpulan masyarakat yang dipilih. Satu ‘roadmap’ juga akan dibentuk untuk memastikan objektif pelaksanaan ini tercapai.

Laporan Aktiviti ‘Life-Skills’

Program meningkatkan kemahiran kehidupan telah dijalankan pada 24 Jun 2014 dan 19 Ogos 2014, melibatkan 50 murid Tingkatan 3 dari SMK Bandar Baru Bangi. Program ini dijalankan dengan usaha sama antara FPEND dengan pensyarah daripada  Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Pendidikan Islam menggunakan  geran ERGS di bawah kendalian Dr Azlin Norhaini Mansor.  Tujuan  program  ialah untuk meningkatkan kemahiran kehidupan murid berisiko bagi membantu mereka mencapai potensi sebenar yang ada pada diri mereka.

Life-Skills Activities ReportA program aimed at improving life-skills was conducted on 24 June 2014 and 19 August 2014, involving 50 form 3 students from SMK Bandar Baru Bangi. This program was held with the cooperation of between FPEND and lecturers from Institute of Teacher Education, Islamic Educational Campus using ERGS grant under the responsibility of Dr Azlin Norhaini Mansor. The purpose of the program is to enhance life-skills life skills of pupils at risk in order to help them discover their real potential.

INTRODUCTION

This program is a colaborative effort between the National University of Malaysia (UKM), New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) and the Polytechnic Institute of New York University (NYU -Poly) seeks to increase the involvement of students in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and mathemathics (STEM) thus be able to compete in the 21st century economy. The program is interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary based, involves hands-on activities, experiments and demonstrations. This active learning approach also embeds the inculcation of 21st century skills and enhances the students’ awareness of careers in STEM. Through this STEM education program, UKM is able to share its cutting edge research with the community.

BACKGROUND

UKM’s Bitara STEM Program is an initiative under the Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council ( GSIAC ) chaired by the Prime Minister. This program is one of the high impact programs under the Human Capacity Building and Cradle to Career (C2C) initiatives in GSIAC. To realize the C2C agenda, in September 2013, an MoA was signed between UKM with NYAS and NYU–Poly to conduct the Bitara STEM-Science of Smart City program. The concept of Bitara STEM Program is an adaptation of the concept of STEM education by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in collaboration with the American Association for the Advancement of Science ( AAAS ) in order to develop STEM in the United States . This concept as demonstrated in Figure 1 highlights the interrelationship of the three main entities and its benefits: 1) Institutions of Higher Education (Institution of Higher Learning) 2) graduate fellows (graduate Students ); 3 ) teachers, students and parents. Objectives of the program:

i. To arouse interest in students to learn STEM through a student-centered approach, project-based learning, multi-disciplinary activities and learning through inquiry.

ii. To provide an atmosphere where learning is fun and reduces ‘anxiety’ of STEM and thus removes the fear of STEM.

iii. To improve science process skills, 21st century skills, scientific skills, higher order thinking and research skills of students.

iv. To elimination of the concept of teaching and learning science can only be done in the classroom or science laboratory.

v. To enhance the views of students about the applications of science in life and career in STEM

vi. To increase parents’ engagement of their children’s involvement in STEM activities.

vii. To discover hidden talents in students viii. To provide inspiration to the younger generation involved in the STEM

PENGENALAN

Program ini  adalah satu usaha  kerjasama antara Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) dengan New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS) dan New York University School of Engineering (NYU-Poly) bertujuan untuk  meningkatkan penglibatan pelajar dalam bidang Sains, Teknologi, Kejuruteraan dan Matematik atau dikenali sebagi STEM agar dapat bersaing dalam ekonomi abad ke-21. Program ini adalah berasaskan antara disiplin dan pelbagai disiplin, melibatkan aktiviti amali, eksperimen dan demonstrasi. Pendekatan pembelajaran juga termasuk penerapan kemahiran abad ke-21 dan untuk meningkatkan kesedaran pelajar terhadap kerjaya STEM. Melalui program pendidikan STEM ini, UKM mampu untuk berkongsi penyelidikan canggih dengan masyarakat.

LATAR BELAKANG

Program Bitara STEM UKM merupakan inisiatif di bawah Global Science and Innovation Advisory Council (GSIAC) yang dipengerusikan oleh Perdana Menteri Malaysia sendiri. Konsep ini  seperti yang ditunjukkan dalam Rajah  1,  hubungan antara  tiga entiti  utama:  1)  InstitusiPengajian Tinggi (IPT); 2)  felo  siswazah;  3)  guru-guru, pelajar dan ibu bapa.

Objektif program ini:

i. Untuk membangkitkan minat pelajar untuk belajar STEM melalui pendekatan berpusatkan pelajar, pembelajaran berasaskan projek, aktiviti pelbagai disiplin dan pembelajaran melalui penyelidikan.

ii. Untuk menyediakan suasana di mana pembelajaran adalah menyeronokkan dan mengurangkan ‘kebimbangan’ terhadap STEM dan dengan itu menghilangkan takut.

iii. Untuk meningkatkan kemahiran proses sains, kemahiran abad ke-21, kemahiran saintifik, pemikiran aras tinggi dan kemahiran penyelidikan pelajar.

iv. Untuk penghapusan konsep pengajaran dan pembelajaran sains hanya boleh dilakukan di dalam makmal atau bilik darjah sains.

v. Untuk meningkatkan pandangan pelajar tentang aplikasi sains dalam kehidupan dan kerjaya dalam STEM

vi. Meningkatkan penglibatan ibu bapa dalam aktiviti STEM bersama anak-anak mereka.

vii. Untuk mengetahui bakat terpendam dalam pelajar terhadap STEMviii. Memberi inspirasi kepada generasi muda yang terlibat dalam STEM

BITARA MODUL STEM dan AKTIVITI dalam 2013-2014

Terdapat empat unit utama dalam aktiviti Bitara STEM yang dilaksanakan oleh pelajar dalam program ini. Unit-unit adalah Tenaga, Pengangkutan, Infrastruktur Bandar dan Komunikasi Tanpa Wayar. Berdasarkan pemahaman dan pembelajaran sains ini, pelajar akan merekacipta sesuatu yang sesuai didiami, berkesan, lestari, berdaya tahan dalam bandar atau masyarakat untuk membentuk Komuniti Pintar Sains. Model bandar pintar atau masyarakat dipamerkan di dalam Pesta Bitara STEM.

Fasa pertama program Bitara STEM adalah lawatan penandarasan pada Mac 2013 ke State University of New York (SUNY), American Museum of National History (AMNH), NYU-Poly, College of Nanotechnology and Engineering, Andrea- Early College Schools.

Fasa kedua program Bitara STEM meliputi Unit Tenaga dan telah dijalankan pada 26-30 September 2013. Seramai 34 orang pelajar siswazah UKM daripada lima (5) fakulti, iaitu Fakulti Pendidikan, Fakulti Kejuruteraan dan Alam Bina (FKAB ), Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi (FST), Fakulti Sains Kesihatan (FSK) dan Fakulti Sains dan Teknologi Maklumat (FTSM) dan seramai 89 pelajar sekolah (berumur 13 dan 13 tahun), empat (4) guru terlibat . Fasilitator STEM yang dilatih kemudian bekerja lebih daripada 3 hari dengan pelajar berusia 13- dan 14 tahun untuk menyampaikan modul; menjalankan aktiviti-aktiviti dan uji kaji; dan mewujudkan pameran STEM hasil aktiviti pelajar.

Fasa ketiga melibatkan modul pengangkutan, komunikasi tanpa wayar dan infrastruktur bandar, yang dijalankan pada 16 Februari-1 Mac 2014. Seramai 35 pelajar siswazah dan 90 orang pelajar daripada 10 buah sekolah dan 8 orang guru yang ditaja oleh FELDA terlibat. Program ini bermula dengan latihan untuk pelatih (Tot) selama 12 hari, diikuti dengan Pesta Bitara STEM selama 3 hari.

BITARA STEM MODULES and ACTIVITIES in 2013-2014

There are four main units in the Bitara STEM activities to be undertaken by the students during the program. The units are Energy, Transportation, Urban Infrastructure and Wireless Network. Based on their understanding and learning of this science, engineering and technology units and concepts, students will design more livable, efficient, sustainable, and resilient cities or communities hence form the Science of Smart Communities. The model of smart cities or communities is exhibited in Bitara STEM Festival.

The first phase of Bitara STEM program is STEM Bench Marking visits in March 2013 to State University of New York (SUNY), American Museum of National History (AMNH), NYU-Poly, College of Nanotechnology and Engineering, Andrea- Early College Schools.

The second phase of Bitara STEM program covers the Energy Unit and was conducted on 26 to 30 September 2013. A total of 34 UKM graduate students from five (5) faculties, namely the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FKAB), Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK) and the Faculty of Information Science and Technology (FTSM) and total 89 school students (13 and 13 years old), four (4) practicing teachers were involved. These newly trained STEM facilitators then worked over 3 days with 13- and 14-year old students to instruct the module; conduct the activities and experiments; and create a student-led STEM exposition of the work on UKM’s campus.

The third phase involves the Transportation, Wireless Communication and Urban Infrastructure units, conducted on 16 February to 1 March 2014. A total of 35 graduate students and 90 students from 10 schools and 8 teachers sponsored by FELDA were involved. The program started with the Training of Trainers (ToT) for 12 days, followed by Bitara STEM Festival for 3 days.

Fasa keempat ialah kerjasama antara UKM dan FELDA dalam Perkhemahan Bitara STEM. Ia melibatkan 226 kanak-kanak sekolah FELDA, 20 guru sains dari wilayah FELDA, 51 fasilitators STEM dalam kalangan siswazah UKM dan 20 pensyarah. Hasil daripada program ini, 10 pelajar sekolah FELDA telah dipilih untuk menghadiri Bengkel Eksplorasi STEM di New York bersama dengan NYAS dari 20-24 September 2014.

Masa depan seterusnya program Bitara STEM UKM 2014-2020 adalah untuk membangunkan Makmal STEM dan Sekolah Berfokus STEM di sekolah di wilayah FELDA dan juga Latihan Guru STEM dengan MARA (MRSM)

PENCAPAIAN dan KEMAJUAN PROGRAM BITARA STEM

Kajian impak ini adalah ke atas pelajar sekolah-sekolah yang terlibat dalam program Bitara STEM Fasa II dan Fasa III. Tiga elemen yang telah diukur sepanjang program adalah minat terhadap STEM, kemahiran abad ke-21 dan pengetahuan kandungan modul STEM dalam kalangan pelajar.

Kajian impak ke atas pelajar sekolah yang terlibat dalam Perkhemahan Bitara STEM UKM-FELDA dalam Fasa IV menunjukkan;• Hampir 6000 pengunjung melawat Pesta

Bitara STEM Fasa IV• 10 model bandar pintar telah dibina oleh

pelajar hasil daripada pemindahan ilmu yang diberikan oleh fasilitator

– Dalam melihat hubungan antara gred matematik mendapati tiadahubungan yang signifikan antara pencapaian matematik dan minat pelajar dalam STEM. Ini menunjukkan bahawa matematik gred yang diperolehi dalam peperiksaan yang tidak memberi kesan ketara kepada peningkatan dalam minat pelajar dalam STEM selepas menghadiri program ini.

– Pelajar yang mendapat gred A lebih berminat dalam semua aspekSTEM yang dikaji.

– Keseluruhanminat pelajar terhadap STEM, bagi semua gred pelajar(mengikut gred mata pelajaran sains yang diperolehi oleh dalam peperiksaan) mempunyai impak yang besar kepada peningkatan minat pelajar dalam STEM selepas menghadiri program ini.

The fourth phase is collaboration between UKM and FELDA in the Bitara STEM Camp. It involves 226 of FELDA school childrens, 20 science teachers from FELDA provinces, 51 STEM fasilitators amongst UKM graduates and 20 lecturers. Outcomes from the program, 10 FELDA school students were selected to attend STEM Competition Exploration Workshop with New York Accademy of Sciences (NYAS) in New York from 20-24 Sept 2014.

Future and next Bitara STEM UKM program projection from 2014 to 2020 is to develop STEM Lab and STEM Focus School with FELDA as well as STEM Teachers Training with MARA Schools (MRSM)

HIGHLIGHT of ACHIEVEMENTS and PROGRESS

Impact study on schools students involved in Bitara STEM Phase II and Phase III. The program involved 89 students from 13 to 14 years old. Three elements that have been surveyed throughout the program which is the interest towards STEM, 21st century skills and module content knowledge amongst the students.

Meanwhile the impact study on schools students involved in Bitara STEM Camp UKM-FELDA in Phase IV shows;• Almost 6000 audience visited Bitara STEM Festivals Phase IV• 10 smart cities model built• 10 students from FELDA were selected to New York for STEM Exploration Workshop.

• Launching of UKM-MRSM STEM Center by Prime Minister• Result of Pre and Post Test;

– An improvement on student interest towards STEM career and STEM subjects by 20%.

– In looking at the relationship between mathematics grades of STEM interest found no significant relationship between mathematics achievement and student interest in STEM. This shows that mathematics grades obtained during the exam did not significantly affect the increase in student interest in STEM after attending this program.

– Students who receive a grade of A are more interested in all aspects STEM studied.

– Overall students' interests in STEM, all grades of the science subject obtained by students during the examination have significant impact on increasing student interest in STEM after attending this program.
