CLEVER KATYA

There was once a farmer who had a beautiful and clever daughter named Katya.

One day, the farmer met the Czar of Russia who was very hungry at the moment.

He asked the farmer for some bread. The farmer gave him some. The Czar loved

the tasty bread and wanted to know who had made it.

The farmer then told the Czar about his wonderful daughter. The Czar was nat

happy with what the farmer said. He always thought that he was the cleverest

person in Russia.

The Czar then gave Katya three difficult tests to prove that she was clever. Katya

cleverly solved all of them. The Czar fell in love with Katya and sooner married her.

Katya made the Czar promised her one thing. If he gets unhappy with her and asked

her to leave the palace, she should be allowed to take one thing she loves the most

in the palace. The Czar agreed.

One day, the Czar was angry. He quickly asked Katya to leave the palaca and

return to her father’s house. When the Czar was sleeping soundly, Katya put him in

a chest. She took the chest to her father’s house. Her father was really shocked

when he saw the Czar inside the chest. When the Czar woke up, he was angry but

Katya reminded him of his promise. She said she loved him the most in the palace.

That made the Czar very happy indeed because he knew that Katya really loved him

very much and not his riches.

Once upon a time, there lived a wounderful daughter, Nadia, with her beloved father

in a small wooden house near the forest. They were very poor. The girl is a very

beautiful, cheerful, bright and kind daughter. She was always helped her father in

doing the house chores.

Nadia liked to walk leissurely while watching the scenic beauty around and listening

to the chirping of birds. Actually she was not alone but was accompanied by other

creatures in the deep forest.

One day, Nadia went to the forest nearby to pluck forest flowers such as roses,

sunflowers and berries. After some time, she felt very hungry. She thought of the

bread that she had brought. She walked until she found a big rock under a big shady

tree and immediately sat on it. Then, took out the bread from her old rattan basket

and she ate the bread hungrily.

While Nadia was eating the bread, suddenly an old woman appeared in front of her.

She was wearing an old black cloak. She had a small, sharp and wrinkled face

with grey hair. She also had a thin, hooked nose and her eyes were red. She asked

Nadia for the bread. She said that she was so hungry. The kind girl felt sorry for

her. So, she gave the old woman her bread as she willing to help the old woman.

No wasting the time, the old woman ate the bread. After finished eating the bread,

the old woman thanked Nadia for helping her. The old woman then, asked for the

girl’s basket. Without asking any questions, Nadia gave her basket to the old

woman. She saw the old woman put something inside it. The old woman thanked

the girl for her kindness and told her that she will be receive a rewards for her good

deed . Then, she said goodbye and left Nadia alone in the middle of the forest.

Nadia was so shocked and tired but felt happy as she had done a good deed on

that day. She quickly ran and returned home.

The moment Nadia reached her house, her father was already waiting for her. She

gave the basket which full of flowers to her father. Nadia also told her father what

had happened to her while she was in the forest Just when her father heard Nadia’

story, he looked into the basket and loudly shouted with joy.

Nadia was so panicked to see her father’s action. She looked into the basket after

her father. There was a small ball brightening and shining all over the house came

from the basket. They were very surprised to see that but yet very happy and

excited. The ball was actually a gold given by the old woman. Nadia’s father went

to the town and sold the ball. He got a lot of money and from that day, they became

rich. They were no longer staying in the forest as they bought a new big farm with a

big banglow in it near the forest. Nadia and her father lived happily ever after.
