iii. A SYSTEMATIC EXAMINATION AND EVALUATION OF DATA TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP

BETWEEN CAUSES AND EFFECT. THUS PROVIDING BASIS FOR PROBLEM SOLVING HAS TO LEAD TO

VARIOUS ANALYSIS AND VERIFICATION WAS PERFORMED TO DISTINGUISH THE POSSIBLE CAUSES

RESULTS TO THE FACTOR OF MACHINE THAT IS INCONSISTENT VACUUM VALUE AT PIPETTE MODULE.

C. CADANGAN PENYELESAIAN INOVATIF & KREATIF

AFTER IDENTIFY VARIOUS POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS, TEAM DO THE EVALUATE VARIOUS MOST POTENTIAL

SOLUTIONS BY CONSIDERING ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES. FINAL SOLUTION WAS CHOOSE

THAT IS TO SPLIT AIR VACUUM CONVERTER ONLY FOR PIPETTE MODULE. FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS WE’VE

TRIAL RUN AND SHOWS POSITIVE RESULT. THE RESULT WERE PRESENTED TO MANAGEMENT FOR BUDGET

APPROVAL TO IMPLEMENT AT BALANCE 13 MACHINES.

WE BENCHMARK FROM OTHERS MACHINE MODEL AT OUR PRODUCTION FLOOR THAT IS IS MECA

MACHINE AND SRM MACHINE WHICH WAS USING INDIVIDUAL VACUUM CONTROLLER FOR EACH

PICKUP HOLDER. THIS GAVE US AN IDEA TO APPLY THE CONCEPT TO OUR THA MACHINE WITH

CREATIVELY DESIGN.

E. PENCAPAIAN PROJEK & PENCIPTAAN NILAI

AFTER 6 MONTH OF HARD WORK AND GREAT TEAM SPIRIT, ALZA TEAM HAS COMPLETED THE TASK AND

CRAVES THE SUCCESS TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE THE COMMON ONE GOAL WHICH IS TO ELIMINATE

TILTED ISSUES. THE TEAM HAD ACHIEVED QUALITY, COST AND DELIVERY TARGET FOR TSXP PACKAGE

CONTINUOUSLY TILL TO-DATE. THE QUANTIFIABLE BENEFITS GAINED FROM THIS PROJECT:-

REDUCE ABORT REEL ISSUES BY 61.9%.

PIPETTE MODULE DOWNTIME REDUCED BY 67.24%.

REDUCE SCRAPPED UNITS BY 54.79% DUE TO ELIMINATE TILTED UNIT.

COST SAVING PER YEAR OF RM1,150,225.00

CLEANING WITH DIAMAKLEEN AS CLEANING AGENT WHICH IDENTIFIED USING PROCESS DECISION

A. LATAR BELAKANG PROJEK

SANMINA PENANG PLANT II IS A PRODUCER OF PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD (PCB) USING FULLY

AUTOMATIC SURFACE MOUNT EQUIPMENT.

DURING THE PLACEMENT OF COMPONENTS ON THE PCB, IT IS VITAL THAT FINISHING ELECTRONIC

COMPONENTS IN TAPE AND REEL ARE JOINT TOGETHER (CALLED SPLICING) TO ENSURE THE EQUIPMENT

DOES NOT STOP, DUE TO PART REPLENISHMENT.

THE CYCLETIME OF “SPLICING” IS AT 10 MINUTES PER SPLICE, THIS PROJECT IS TO REDUCE THE

CYCLETIME OF SPLICING OF OPERATORS AND TO INCREASE THE PRODUCTIVITY OF SMT OPERATORS.

WE CONDUCT A VALUE STREAM MAPPING EXERCISE AND IDENTIFIED SOME WASTE THAT IS ATTRIBUTED

TO WALKING AND INFORMATION GATHERING.

WE CONCLUDE THAT IF WE COULD PUSH THE SPLICING TIMING INFORMATION TO THE OPERATORS, WE

COULD REDUCE THE OPERATOR WALKING WASTE.

WE EVALUATED A NUMBER OF WEARABLE IN ORDER TO PUSH INFORMATION AND ALSO FREE UP THE

OPERATORS HAND TO MAKE EFFECTIVE WORK

THE MARKET PRICE FOR WRIST COMPUTER IS AROUND RM4200 PER UNIT. OUR TEAM CAME OUT WITH A

CREATIVE SOLUTION TO ACHIEVE THE PERFORMANCE OF WRIST COMPUTER WITH 90% COST

REDUCTION

THE WHOLE SYSTEM OF INFORMATION FLOW AND TASK ASSIGNMENT WAS BENCHMARK FROM THE E

HAILING SYSTEM OF UBER. THIS SYSTEM IS KNOWN AS UBR SPLICING.

THE INNOVATION IS NOT ONLY ON THE HARDWARE BUT ALSO THE GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE (GUI)

PRODUCING APPROXIMATELY ~16 MIO PIECES PER WEEK. UNFORTUNATELY INSTABILITY OF MACHINE

PERFORMANCE RESULTED LOW OUTPUT WHICH IS BELOW TARGET OF 6’615K PER WEEK. THIS IS DUE TO

HIGH SOCKET DISABLE AND NOT FULLY UTILIZED. TEAM WAS DECIDED TO PICKUP THE CHALLENGE TO

DRIVE THE IMPROVEMENT.

ACCORDING TO THE PARETO BREAKDOWN, SOCKET DISABLE FACTOR CONTRIBUTED 82.2% FROM

SLOT HAS CAUSED BROKEN HOLDER B ARE FOUND WHILE DOING ANALYSIS STUDY.

USING 4R CONCEPT, THE TEAM INDENTIFIED CREATIVE SOLUTION REDESIGN HOLDER B BY ADOPT WIDER

ROAD AS A SUITABLE CLEARENCE BETWEEN PACKAGE UNIT AND HOLDER B PIN SLOT, THUS ELIMINATING

TEST SOCKET DISABLE. FINALLY WE MANAGED TO ACHIEVE BREAKTHROUGH RESULT 1.05%.

PGSSO 2-53 IS ONE OF INFINEON MELAKA SENSORS BEST-SELLING PACKAGES. WITH THE RAPID

INCREASE OF DEMAND FOR THE PACKAGE, A STEEP RAMP UP WAS NEEDED TO SECURE MARKET

POSITION. TEAM WAS FACING BIG CHALLENGE TO ENSURE DELIVERY ON TIME YET HIGH PRODUCT

QUALITY MUST BE GUARANTEED. TEAM HAD INTRODUCED A NEW INNOVATION IN PACKAGE

SINGULATION FROM LEADFRAME IN RESOLVING TWO MOST PAIN-POINT DEFECTS IN SENS

MANUFACTURING LINE, I.E. CHIP KERKO (CAPACITOR) AND MISSING PROTRUSION.THIS PROBLEM

APX8500 MOBILE RADIO IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE AND HIGH DEMAND PRODUCT BUILD IN THE FACTORY.

HOWEVER, DURING THE RAMP BUILD OF APX8500 MOBILE SINCE JAN 2017, THERE ARE FEW ISSUES

OCCURRED AND ONE THE MAJOR ISSUE WAS POWER AMPLIFIER (PA) DAMAGED/BURNT WHICH LEAD

TO PRODUCTION STOP BUILD. BUILT RADIO HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE FACTORY FOR REWORKING.

IN ORDER TO SUSTAIN PROFITABLE REVENUE AND HIGHEST QUALITY PRODUCT, THE TEAM NEEDS TO

DRIVE THE INVESTIGATION AND IDENTIFY THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE ISSUE. ALSO, TO FURTHER IMPROVE

THE YIELD PERFORMANCE FOR APX8500 MOBILE RADIO.

SCREENING METHOD TO FIND POSSIBLE ROOT CAUSES. ONE OF THE MAIN IMPACTS FOR THE

CONTAMINATION FAILURE IS OPTICAL PATH NOT REFLECTED ACCORDING TO SPECIFICATIONS.

A. LATAR BELAKANG PROJEK

FINISAR’S CUSTOMERS ARE VARIED AND ANY REQUIREMENT BY CUSTOMER IS OUR UTMOST PRIORITY.

WE IN FINISHED GOODS STORE OFTEN REQUIRED TO REPACK INTO CUSTOMIZED PACKAGING. THE

PRODUCT PART NUMBER REPRESENTS A DIFFERENT PRODUCT TYPE. IT IS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED BASED

ON CUSTOMER. IN ORDER TO DO THIS EACH PACKAGING STYLE DIFFERS BY TRAY, UNITS IN A PACKAGE,

INSTRUCTION AND SIZES. TO IDENTIFY EACH, WE GENERATE PART NUMBERS. BUT THE LIST OF PART

NUMBERS HAD GROWN TOO LONG. MANAGING PART NUMBERS BECOME ANOTHER HEADACHE AS

THE PRODUCTS BECOME MORE VARIED.

TO EASE OUR OPERATION, WE INCORPORATE THIS FEATURE INTO EXISTING SHOP FLOOR EXECUTION

SYSTEMS TO. EARLIER SYSTEM WAS EASY TO USE BUT EVENTUALLY IT BECOME COMPLEX WITH MORE AND

MORE CUSTOMER REQUEST CAME IN. THE FINISHED GOODS DEPT. FORMED “BRAINSTORMER” TO

1) ELIMINATE ANY UNNEEDED STEPS,

2) COMBINE WHERE NEEDED BASED ON FEASIBILITY OF OPERATOR’S MOVEMENT

3) REARRANGE LOGISTICS OR MOVEMENT ERGONOMICALLY

4) AND, SIMPLIFY THE WHOLE PROCEDURE OR METHOD OF RETRIEVAL, STORAGE AND DISPLAY

B. PUNCA UTAMA MASALAH

THE WHOLE OPERATION OF DOING CUSTOMIZED PACKAGING INVOLVES

i. A LOT OF MOVEMENT,

ii. TRANSACTIONS IN SYSTEMS AND MANUAL,

iii. HARDCOPIES OF CUSTOMER ORDER FORMS,

iv. INVOLVES TOO MANY HANDLING BETWEEN FG STORES OPERATORS AND SHIPPING PERSONNEL

v. CONSUME TOO MUCH TIME IN PROCESSING.

THIS HAD CREATED A DELAY IN EXECUTING AN ORDER FROM CUSTOMER

YIELD IS ONE OF THE LEADING KPI METRIC IN ORDER TO MEASURE PRODUCT’S QUALITY. THE TEAM

REALIZED THAT TSXP PLATING YIELD IS NOT ABLE TO ACHIEVE YIELD TARGET OF 99.95% WITH TOTAL OF

0.33% LOSSES WHICH ARE MAINLY CONTRIBUTED BY 0.29% OF BROKEN ARRAY REJECTS.

B. PUNCA UTAMA MASALAH

THERE ARE SEVERAL ROOT CAUSES TO THE PROBLEM BASED ON 4M ANALYSIS SUCH AS MISSED

HANDLING(MAN), RINSING NOZZLES (MACHINE), BLOWER (MACHINE), STATIONARY ARM (METHOD),

GOLD POST PIPING (METHOD), IMMERSION CARRIER HANGER (MATERIAL) AND IMMERSION CARRIER

(MATERIAL). ALL OF THE POSSIBLE ROOT CAUSES NEED TO BE VERIFIED BY ANALYSIS IIN ORDER TO

TACKLE THE TRUE ROOT CAUSES WITH BIG IMPROVEMENT IMPACT TO THE OBJECTIVE.

C. CADANGAN PENYELESAIAN INOVATIF & KREATIF

THROUGH ANALYSIS ON THE POSSIBLE ROOT CAUSES, ACTIONS HAVE BEEN TAKEN ON THE TRUE ROOT

CAUSES (BLOWER, GOLD POST BOTTOM PIPING AND IMMERSION CARRIER) THAT CAUSING THE

REJECTS. YIELD AND REJECTS CASES HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED BUT STILL INSUFFICIENT BASED

ON THE YIELD AND REJECT CASES TARGET SETTING. THEREFORE, FURTHER INNOVATIVE SOLUTION

(ETCHING TRAY) HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT IN ORDER TO MEET THE TARGET SETTINGS
