[LIHAT SEBELAH]

Have you heard of the English proverb ‘an idle mind is the devil’s workshop’? The

message it sends is that everyone should have something to do to keep themselves busy

in their free time. Some hobbies may be very expensive and burn a hole in one’s pocket

but we can always choose hobbies that do not require much money.

My hobby is one that does not require me to spend a lot of money. I like to

collect coins from all over the world. I am proud to say that I have a large collection

now. I started collecting coins when my father handed down his own coins collection to

me seven years ago. His collection consisted of about two hundred coins from more

than thirty countries. My collection has now grown to more than four hundred coins of

various shapes and sizes from almost a hundred countries.

It is quite easy for me to collect coins as my father is a businessman who travels

overseas frequently. Whenever he is in a new country, he makes sure that he brings

back as many coins as he can. I will also get coins as souvenirs when my father’s friends

return from their overseas trips. I have also started corresponding with pen pals

especially from countries which I do not have coins from , so that I can exchange coins

with them.

Mr. Nobody Author: Unknown

I know a funny little man, As quiet as a mouse, Who does the mischief that is done In everybody's house! There's no one ever sees his face, And yet we all agree That every plate we break was cracked By Mr. Nobody. `Tis he who always tears our books, Who leaves the door ajar, He pulls the buttons from our shirts, And scatters pine afar; That squeaking door will always squeak, For, prithee, don't you see, We leave the oiling to be done By Mr. Nobody. The finger marked upon the door By none of us are made; We never leave the blind unclosed, To let the curtains fade. The ink we never spill; the boots That lying round you. See Are not our boots they all belong To Mr. Nobody.

Questions 38 – 40 are based on the extract from One is One and All Alone.

38. The VP was Trish’s A. father. C. teacher B. mother. D. student

39. The word complicated can best be replaced with

A. new and exciting. C. difficult to understand. B. easy to understand. D. troublesome and dangerous

40. What did Trish decide to do after this?

A. She decided to go back home. B. She wanted to go to her mum on Trion. C. She decided to make a clone of herself. D. She asked her father to show her the Bio Lab.

KERTAS SOALAN TAMAT

One day, as Trish was learning new words on the VP, she came across the word ‘cloning’.

The VP explained that cloning is a process by which a living thing can be exactly reproduced. In

this process, a scrap of tissue, taken from a living thing, is used as a pattern to create a duplicate

of the original living thing. Trish thought that although the idea was very complicated, it was

extremely interesting. She remembered that some sheep had been cloned in the previous

century. The VP explained that they had taken tiny scrapings from the sheep’s skin and created

hundreds of identical sheep because they had been constructed from the same original and to

the same pattern. Besides sheep, various other animals had also been cloned. The VP then

went on to say that cloning was still being done even at present times. In fact, the VP stated,

there were sufficient resources available in the Bio Lab to set up a clone laboratory. Trish

started thinking seriously about this.
