1. INTRODUCTION AND MATERIAL USED

Casting involves the process of pouring liquid metal into a mold

Solidified metal is ejected to complete the process

Oftenly used to make complex shape

We selected the “die casting” process.

Popular manufacturing process for casting metal products

5. WHY DIE CASTING PROCESS?

High quality: Parts created through die casting deliver a long service life.

High reliability: Uniformity of mass-produced parts is exceptional.

Quick production: Die cast tooling requires minimal maintenance.

Versatile design: Die casting can createvirtually any size, part geometry, surface texture or luster.

Minimal assembly: Assembly features such as studs, drill holes and bosses can be integrated into mold design.

PROCESS FLOWmagnesium die casting

Why? – the assured availability and the combination of positive properties of high-purity magnesium alloys make this lightest of all metallic engineering materials an attractive option for numerous application:

1.light-weight components in automotive engineering.

2.casings of office machines,notebook,cell phone handsets,loudspeaker.

1st – ingots are heated about 150°C – as the melting and ladling furnaces must only be charge by dry ingots.

2nd steps – ingots introduced into ladling furnace and melted.

3rd steps – inert gas prevent oxidation bath surface - the molten metal maintained at the prescribed temperature until fed to the shot sleeve.

4th steps -

Justification Die Casting

1. Can produce large parts 1. Trimming is required

2. Can form complex shapes 2. High tooling and equipment cost

3. High strength parts

4. Very good surface finish and accuracy

5. High production rate

6. Low labor cost

7. Scrap can be recycled
