BIM DEFINITION
BIM Harmony
Building Information Modeling is the process of developing, using and transferring project information through 3D model by using digital technology to improve the delivery system throughout the project life cycle.
“a collaborative process to all infrastructure and building projects”

Level of Information
A BIM metric to specify and articulate with high level of clarity the content and reliability of model at various stages in the design and construction process. The LOD scale includes element’s geometry and attached information referred as Level of Detail (LOd) and Level of Information (LOi).

3D Model is used to improve visualisation of the project, communication of design intent and multidisciplinary collaboration.
4D Model is used for construction site planning activities
5D Model is used for budget tracking and cost analysis related activities
6D Model helps perform energy consumption analysis
7D model is used by facility management team in operation and maintenence of the facility throughout it’s lifecycle.

“For BIM to be of benefit and not an additional disconnected effort it needs to be an integral part of the design process. With BIM, the receiver is very dependent on the way we deliver the service. Communication needs to be machine readable, consistent and easily exchangeable across the entire Building Production Chain. Humans are still the central factor. With CAD, we made mistakes and overlooked issues. Nevertheless, the system was adjustable to chaos. BIM needs us to be ORGANISED. We have to learn to work with it and not against it. It will reward us with….Better Outcomes”, -Mike Ruehr, HASSELL, Perth.
