INTRODUCTIONSite analysis is a preliminary phase of architectural and urban

design processes dedicated to the study of the climatic, geographical, historical, legal, and infrastructural context of a

specific site

The National Botanical Garden Shah Alam which was previously known as TPM.

Also known as Bukit Cerakah Agriculture Park. The National Botanical Garden Shah Alam was developed on 24th April 1986.

It was promulgated as the Bukit Cahaya Seri Alam Agriculture Park Malaysia by the late Almarhum Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj ibni Hishamuddin Alam

Shah Al-Haj in 1991.

The name TBNSA conferred to the park now is in line with the decision made by the Cabinet of Ministers in 2007 to further develop TBNSA as a replacement to TPM.

SITE PLAN

Page 5: BUILDING DESIGN

How does the sun move across the site?

Malaysia is located on the equator and TamanBotani Negara Shah Alam is located near theequator where it allows areas to absorb moresunlight. So the path of the sun or the positiondoes not shift much throughout the year.

The site receives sunlight at about 7:30am. The sun coming out from the east, from the view of the building facing thepaddy fields it is in the right frontcorner of the field. When sunsets, it is inthe back left corner of the field.

Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam is located in Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. As Malaysia is located near the equator, it allows for

the location to receive more sunshine. Being close to the equator, the sun path or position does not shift much throughout the

year. On the average, Malaysia receives about 10 hours of sunshine per day. However, seasonal variations may influence the

amount of sunshine received.

Page 6: BUILDING DESIGN

The sun is the primary source of heat and light. When designing for it, designer should need to

count for how it moves through the day and through the year, and when it is obscured by clouds.

2. When assessing a site for sun, consider:

• the time during the day that the site receives sunlight

• the sun's path at different times of the day and year

• how the site’s shape, slope and orientation affect solar access

• how obstructions such as adjacent buildings, trees and landforms will impact on the site and the

potential design

• the owners' lifestyle for example, when they want to have sun or shade.

During the site visit, the temperature recorded was around 34°C. The entire trail is directly exposed to sunlight as the trees are too short and sparse to

provide shade. Some areas which are sheltered from direct sunlight.

Page 7: BUILDING DESIGN

SHADOW CASTINGShaded Relatively high tree density allowing for efficient shading from direct sunlight.

Semi-Shaded Relatively low tree density giving less shade to the highlighted areas.

Exposed Few to no trees leaving the areas extremely vulnerable to direct sunlight and heat

OVERSHADOW OF THE BUILDING TO THE SITE

The neighbouring buildings is NOT overshadow the

site because the building is not too high.

The objective of this cause is to ensure buildings

do not unreasonably overshadow existing secluded

private and space.

SWOT ANALYSIS

Facilities provided is very good.Completed from road, road furniture, all supplies,

good drainage system, maintain landscape and free of stray dogs.

Beautiful paddy and fish pond near the proposed site completed with landscaping that have a high

opportunity towards investor. The surrounding is clean and free from garbage.

The problem in around paddy field is less attractive and too hot, where people only focusing

on the main part of the Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam. Such as Animal Park, Skytrex and etc.

Commercial opportunity regarding the empty area surrounding

the site

Parking lot for the users around the street for a new

commercial purposed.

The area can contribute in decreasing the congestion in for the

Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam by making a new attraction

there.

Only have a few restaurant or café which is make the visitor a lot harder to buy food.To hot around the paddy field.

No exhibition about the activity around the paddy park. Make it less attractive to visit.

There are a few parking lot near the proposed site.No fire safety surrounding the area of the proposed site.

such as fire mean escape plan.

ADVANTAGE

Appearance

-Different factors , climate, location ,

- look fantastic & maintaining appearance

a long time

Durability

-more durable and can withstand a wider

range of weather conditions

- Pitched roofs can last for up to thirty

years if properly maintained

Maintenance

-won’t have to worry about repair work

and maintenance as often as you would

with other styles.

- Pitched roofs are designed to last with

minimal care and will keep home

sheltered no matter the weather

conditions go through.MATERIAL : CLAY ROOF TILES

MATERIALS FOR FLOOR

WOOD – LIVING HALL AND BEDROOM

Reasons :

Durability wood-look flooring is easy to maintain and to

clean.

Energy efficient . Wood is a natural insulator and is very

effective in isolating cold and heat.

Good thermal insulator, wood is also an excellent noise

absorber, making wooden houses warm, relaxing and

peaceful.

Because of the way these types of buildings are constructed

and the careful planning of their construction, they are quick

to build when compared to buildings made from materials

such as stone or concrete

BRICK FLOORING- KITCHEN AND TOILET

Reasons :

Design flexibility. As with tile, brick’s modular nature lends

itself to an infinite variety of patterns.

Affordability. Because brick use for interior applications is

generally in paver or tile form, it’s thinner and less costly

than exterior brick.

Sustainability . Clay brick is made mostly of natural material.

It is tough to destroy, it does not rot and it will not required

painting or refinishing.

GLASS

Reasons :

The glass that absorb, refracts or transmits light. It can be

made transparent or translucent so it adds extraordinary

beauty to the building.

Glass transmits up to 80% of available natural day light in

both directions without any yellowing, clouding or

weathering.

The glass is fully weather resistance so it can withstand the

effects of the wind, rain, or the sun and can retain its

appearance and integrity.

Glass does not rust so it does not degrade gradually by

chemical and surrounding environment effects.

Glass has a smooth glossy surface so it is dust proof and

can be easily cleaned.

MATERIAL FOR WALL

CONCRETE

Reasons :

Light concrete. Material used its manufacture make it an eco-material as if

respects the environment.

Has excellent capacity to accumulate heat and return it

Real humidity regulator. It softens dry air by releasing gas and absorbs.

Offer a high thermal inertia and enables efficient correction of thermal

bridges.

100% recyclable and can be used to cover rubble without risk of polluting

soil.

SUSTAINABLE/GREEN ADAPTION

There are clear benefits in going green because it makes sense on an economic, productivity, well-being and lifestyle perspective. This is why we are committed to take the whole thing holistically when going green due to climate change, especially when it comes to concept design. With the re-emergence of green living and conserving the Earth’s precious resources there has been a renewed interest in our group in finding building products that have been recycled and used in new ways, reclaimed from other building projects or repurposed into new functions.
