Welcome everyone to the fourth Digital Economy Forum 4.0. I would like to thank all the sponsors, organising committee and panel of speakers for making today event a success. My heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of Communication and Multimedia, MDEC and MATRADE for their continuous support.
Today conference mark a new milestone as we also witness the installation of the newly elected committee member of MDCC. For the next 2 years we hope to continue to serve our members well and assist them in their enterprise expansion and continue to have meaningful and fruitful dialogue with the government ministries and agencies so that we can do our part in contributing to nation building.
As we know digital disruption is affecting all organisations, impacting not only how businesses use technology, but also how they drive innovation, organisational change and new cultural behaviours. One result of this seismic shift is the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation, and all the business implications this entails. How organisations go about managing these transformational opportunities and challenges is redefining corporate strategy.
The industrial internet is expected to drive a $220bn market by 2020. The question for industrial companies is: how can we get some of that value? So digital transformation is impacting all businesses, across all their operations. It is changing not only how businesses use technology, but also how they drive innovation, organisational change and new cultural behaviours. If we look at it more widely, digital transformation impacts productivity by enabling organisations to improve efficiency. When it comes to large organisations, even 1 percent of productivity gains can impact a company’s bottom line by millions
The term digital disruption is often used as shorthand for a certain type of innovation that usually pits emerging companies against established giants. The impact of digital disruption really cannot be overstated. It is completely reshaping the way all companies operate, from massively streamlining overarching business processes to everyday processes, such as instant messenger tools and cloud storage. I honestly do not think that I could have predicted the absolute wealth of change and opportunity that we are now seeing on a daily basis. We are now at the point where a six year old can run a YouTube channel and earn millions each year. This is having a revolutionary impact on the way companies are looking to make money.
Having said all these, I hope today conference will have a lot of take back for the participants in particular and I wish everyone all the best and enjoy the conference.
