KATA PENGANTAR

Banci Penduduk dan Perumahan Malaysia 2010 (Banci 2010) merupakan banci kelima yang

dilaksanakan sejak penubuhan Malaysia pada tahun 1963. Banci sebelum ini telah dijalankan

pada tahun 1970, 1980, 1991 dan 2000. Banci 2010 membekalkan maklumat yang

komprehensif tentang bilangan penduduk dan isi rumah berserta ciri-ciri demografi dan

sosioekonomi. Di samping itu, ia juga menyediakan maklumat bilangan dan jenis tempat

kediaman serta kemudahan asas yang tersedia.

Banci merupakan satu projek besar yang melibatkan pemprosesan jumlah borang yang

banyak dan mempunyai pelbagai data, maka ia memerlukan masa yang lama untuk diproses

sebelum statistik dapat dikeluarkan demi menjamin kualitinya. Bagi memberi gambaran

ringkas bilangan penduduk Malaysia pada tahun 2010, Jabatan Perangkaan Malaysia telah

menerbitkan Laporan Kiraan Permulaan pada Disember 2010. Seterusnya, laporan yang

telah diterbitkan adalah Taburan Penduduk dan Ciri-ciri Asas Demografi dan Taburan

Penduduk Mengikut Kawasan Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan dan Mukim, Ciri-ciri Tempat

Kediaman, Ciri-ciri Pendidikan dan Sosial Penduduk dan Ciri-ciri Ekonomi Penduduk.

Penerbitan ini mengandungi maklumat tentang bilangan isi rumah persendirian dan bukan

persendirian, penduduk mengikut pertalian kepada ketua isi rumah, jumlah ketua isi rumah

mengikut umur, saiz purata isi rumah, jenis isi rumah, pemilikan rumah dan kemudahan

peralatan isi rumah. Maklumat dalam penerbitan ini adalah berdasarkan kepada penjanaan

data muktamad tanpa penyesuaian kurang penghitungan.

Diharapkan penerbitan ini dapat memenuhi keperluan perancang, pembuat dasar,

penyelidik dan juga pihak awam.

PREFACE

The 2010 Population and Housing Census of Malaysia (Census 2010) was the fifth decennial

census conducted since the formation of Malaysia in 1963. The previous censuses were

conducted in 1970, 1980, 1991 and 2000. Census 2010 provides a wealth of information on

the number of persons and households as well as a wide range of demographic and socio-

economic characteristics. In addition, it also provides information on the number and types

of living quarters and the availability of basic amenities.

The census being a very large project involves the processing of a voluminous number of

forms and information and therefore requires a fair amount of processing time to ensure its

quality before the statistics can be released. Thus, to provide a quick insight on the

population of Malaysia in 2010, the Department of Statistics, Malaysia published the

Preliminary Count Report on December 2010. The following reports also had been released

were Population Distribution and Basic Demographic Characteristics, Population

Distribution by Local Authority Areas and Mukims, Living Quarters Characteristics,

Education and Social Characteristics of the Population and Economic Characteristics of the

Population.

This publication contains information on the number of private and non-private households,

population by relationship to household heads, total of household heads by age, average

household size, type of households, house ownership and availability of household items. The

information in this publication is based on the final data without adjustments for under-

enumeration.

It is hoped that this publication will fulfill the requirements of planners, policy makers,

researchers as well as the general public.

1. Jumlah isi rumah

1. Total household

Banci 2010 menyediakan maklumat asas

tentang isi rumah yang memberikan

gambaran tentang perubahan corak

kehidupan dan arah aliran sosioekonomi di

Malaysia. Jumlah isi rumah pada Banci 2010

adalah 6.35 juta berbanding 4.80 juta isi

rumah pada Banci 2000. Ini menunjukkan

kenaikan sebanyak 32 peratus isi rumah

atau pertambahan kadar purata tahunan

sebanyak 3.2 peratus dalam tempoh antara

2000 dan 2010.

Isi rumah bukan persendirian yang terdiri

daripada isi rumah institusi seperti asrama,

hotel, institusi kebajikan, penjara, hospital,

institusi ibadat dan lain-lain hanya

merangkumi 0.2 peratus daripada jumlah isi

rumah pada Banci 2010. Jadual yang

ditunjukkan dalam penerbitan ini adalah

berdasarkan kepada isi rumah persendirian

yang menyumbang sebanyak 6.34 juta isi

rumah pada tahun 2010.

The Census 2010 provides some basic

information on households, which gives an

insight into the changing living patterns and

socio-economic trends in Malaysia. A total

number of households in Census 2010 were

6.35 million compared to 4.80 million

households in Census 2000. This indicates a

32 per cent increase in the number of

households, or an average annual increase

of 3.2 per cent during the period of 2000

and 2010.

Non-private households which include

institutional households such as hostels,

hotels, welfare institutions, prisons,

hospitals, religious institutions and others

comprised only 0.2 per cent of the total

households in Census 2010. The tables

presented in this publication are mainly

based on private households that

constituted 6.34 million households in year

2010.

Malaysia menurun daripada 4.6 orang

kepada 4.2 orang bagi tempoh satu dekad.

Hampir semua negeri menunjukkan

penurunan dalam saiz purata isi rumah

berbanding Banci 2000 kecuali Sabah.

Pada Banci 2010, Sabah mencatatkan purata

paling tinggi iaitu 5.5 orang bagi setiap isi

rumah, diikuti Kelantan (4.8 orang) dan

Terengganu (4.6 orang). W.P. Putrajaya

mencatatkan saiz purata isi rumah terendah

iaitu 3.5 orang.

Selangor mencatatkan penurunan saiz

purata yang paling ketara iaitu daripada 4.5

orang pada tahun 2000 kepada 3.9 orang

pada tahun 2010.

2. Average household size

The average number of persons per private

household in Malaysia declined from 4.6

persons to 4.2 persons in a decade. In

comparison with Census 2000, almost all

states showed a decline in average

household size except Sabah.

Sabah recorded the highest average with

5.5 persons per household during Census

2010, followed by Kelantan (4.8 persons)

and Terengganu (4.6 persons). The lowest

average household size of 3.5 persons was

recorded in W.P. Putrajaya.

Selangor recorded the most significant

decline in average size from 4.5 persons in

2000 to 3.9 persons in 2010.

Jenis isi rumah keluarga asas masih

mengekalkan peratusan yang paling tinggi

berbanding dengan jenis isi rumah lain.

Namun begitu, ia menunjukkan penurunan

berbanding tahun 2000 iaitu daripada 65.4

peratus kepada 62.8 peratus.

Sebaliknya, peratusan isi rumah keluarga

luas telah bertambah sedikit daripada 20.3

peratus pada 2000 kepada 20.5 peratus

pada 2010. Peratusan isi rumah

perseorangan juga telah bertambah

daripada 7.1 peratus kepada 8.3 peratus

bagi tempoh yang sama.

3. Type of household

Nucleus family households continued to

remain high compared to other types of

households. Nevertheless, there was a

decline in percentage compared to 2000

that is from 65.4 per cent to 62.8 per cent.

Conversely, the percentage of extended

family households has edged up slightly,

from 20.3 per cent in 2000 to 20.5 per cent

in 2010. The percentage of single person

households has also grown from 7.1 per

cent to 8.3 per cent during the same period.

Di peringkat negeri, peratusan isi rumah

keluarga asas yang tertinggi adalah di

Terengganu iaitu 69.9 peratus, diikuti Johor

dan Kedah iaitu masing-masing pada

67.6 peratus manakala peratusan terendah

adalah Sarawak (53.1%).

At state level, the highest percentage of

nucleus family households was in

Terengganu at 69.9 per cent, followed by

Johor and Kedah at 67.6 per cent,

respectively whereas the lowest percentage

was in Sarawak (53.1%).

Bagi isi rumah keluarga luas pula, peratusan

tertinggi adalah di Sabah (31.4%), diikuti

Sarawak (29.0%) dan Kelantan (24.9%)

manakala peratusan terendah adalah di

W.P. Putrajaya (9.7%).

Walau bagaimanapun, W.P. Putrajaya

mencatatkan peratusan isi rumah

perseorangan yang tertinggi iaitu 11.7

peratus, diikuti Perlis (10.3%) dan Perak

(9.9%). Peratusan isi rumah perseorangan

yang terendah adalah di Sabah (5.5%).

As for extended family households, the

highest percentage was in Sabah (31.4%),

followed by Sarawak (29.0%) and Kelantan

(24.9%) while the lowest percentage was in

W.P. Putrajaya (9.7%).

However, W.P. Putrajaya recorded the

highest percentage of single person

households at 11.7 per cent, followed by

Perlis (10.3%) and Perak (9.9%). The lowest

percentage of single person households was

in Sabah (5.5%). (Table 1, page 13).

4. Umur penengah ketua isi rumah

Umur penengah ketua isi rumah yang

berumur 20 tahun dan lebih telah

meningkat daripada 43.2 tahun (2000)

kepada 46.1 tahun (2010). Perlis

mencatatkan umur penengah ketua isi

rumah yang tertinggi iaitu 50.9 tahun, diikuti

Perak (50.8 tahun) dan Kelantan (50.4

tahun). Sebaliknya, W.P. Putrajaya

menunjukkan umur penengah yang

terendah iaitu 31.9 tahun.

4. Median age of head of households

The median age of head of households aged

20 years and over had risen from 43.2 years

(2000) to 46.1 years (2010). Perlis recorded

the highest median age of head of

households at 50.9 years, followed by Perak

(50.8 years) and Kelantan (50.4 years). On

the contrary, W.P. Putrajaya had the lowest

median age of head of households which

was 31.9 years.

5. Pemilikan rumah

Banci 2010 menunjukkan penurunan dalam

peratusan pemilikan rumah oleh mana-

mana ahli dalam isi rumah persendirian iaitu

daripada 67.3 peratus pada 2000 kepada

59.0 peratus pada 2010. Peratusan ini

termasuk mana-mana ahli dalam isi rumah

persendirian yang memiliki rumah yang

didiami sekarang dan mana-mana ahli yang

memiliki rumah di tempat lain di Malaysia.

Peratusan isi rumah yang tidak memiliki

rumah pula adalah sebanyak 21.3 peratus.

5. House ownership

Census 2010 showed a drop in the

percentage of house ownership by any

members of private households, that is from

67.3 per cent in 2000 to 59.0 per cent in

2010. This percentage includes any

members in a private household which

owned the house he/she is currently

occupying as well as any members who

owned a house elsewhere in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, 21.3 per cent of households do

not own a house.

6. Peralatan isi rumah

Secara keseluruhannya, Carta 7

menunjukkan perbandingan peratusan

pemilikan peralatan isi rumah terpilih antara

Banci 2000 dan 2010. Maklumat mengenai

pemilikan penapis air, komputer riba dan

siaran TV berbayar mula dikumpul pada

Banci 2010.

6. Household items

Overall, Chart 7 illustrated the comparison

of the percentage for selected household

items between Censuses 2000 and 2010.

The information pertaining to water filter,

laptop and paid TV channel was first

collected during Census 2010.

a. Kereta bermotor

a. Motorcar

Isi rumah persendirian yang mempunyai

kereta bermotor telah meningkat iaitu

daripada 49.1 peratus pada 2000 kepada

59.2 peratus pada 2010. Isi rumah yang

memiliki satu kereta bermotor

menunjukkan peningkatan sebanyak

1.0 mata peratus. Manakala, isi rumah

yang memiliki dua kereta bermotor atau

lebih meningkat dengan ketara sebanyak

9.2 mata peratus daripada 10.1 peratus

(2000) kepada 19.3 peratus (2010).

Private households owning motorcars

had increased from 49.1 per cent in

2000 to 59.2 per cent in 2010. The

percentage of households owning one

motorcar showed an increase of

1.0 percentage point. Meanwhile, those

owning two or more motorcars showed

a significant increase of 9.2 percentage

point from 10.1 per cent (2000) to

19.3 per cent (2010).

b. Motosikal/Skuter

Pada tahun 2010, peratusan isi rumah

yang mempunyai motosikal/skuter di

Malaysia telah menurun sebanyak 1.8

mata peratus iaitu daripada 50.6 peratus

(2000) kepada 48.8 peratus (2010).

Perlis mencatatkan peratusan tertinggi

bagi isi rumah persendirian yang

mempunyai motosikal/skuter iaitu

80.2 peratus, diikuti Kedah (74.7%) dan

Kelantan (73.8%). Sebaliknya, Sabah

mencatatkan peratusan terendah iaitu

15.6 peratus.

b. Motorcycle/Scooter

In 2010, the percentage of households

with motorcycles/scooters in Malaysia

dropped by 1.8 percentage point from

50.6 per cent (2000) to 48.8 per cent

(2010). Perlis recorded the highest

percentage of households owning

motorcycles/scooters with 80.2 per cent,

followed by Kedah (74.7%) and Kelantan

(73.8%). Meanwhile, Sabah recorded

low prevalence with only 15.6 per cent.

c. Mesin basuh

Banci 2010 menunjukkan bahawa

peratusan isi rumah yang mempunyai

mesin basuh telah meningkat iaitu

daripada 62.1 peratus (2000) kepada

73.6 peratus (2010). Terengganu, Perlis

dan W.P. Putrajaya menunjukkan

peratusan tertinggi, iaitu masing-masing

pada 86.9 peratus, 86.0 peratus dan

84.2 peratus.

d. Peti sejuk


81.2 peratus daripada jumlah isi rumah

persendirian di Malaysia mempunyai

peti sejuk berbanding 75.7 peratus pada

Banci 2000. Negeri yang menunjukkan

peratusan tertinggi adalah Perlis

(90.5%), diikuti Terengganu (89.1%) dan

Negeri Sembilan (88.6%).

e. Penyaman udara

Di Malaysia, penyaman udara masih lagi

dianggap sebagai peralatan mewah di

kalangan isi rumah. Banci 2010

menunjukkan bahawa 22.3 peratus isi

rumah memilikinya berbanding

16.2 peratus pada Banci 2000. Selangor

mencatatkan peratus isi rumah yang

memiliki penyaman udara tertinggi

(32.6%), diikuti Pulau Pinang (30.3%) dan

W.P. Kuala Lumpur (28.9%), manakala

Kelantan menunjukkan peratus

terendah iaitu 9.1 peratus.

c. Washing machine

Census 2010 also showed that the

percentage of households with washing

machines had risen from 62.1 per cent

(2000) to 73.6 per cent (2010).

Terengganu, Perlis and W.P. Putrajaya

showed the highest percentages, with

86.9 per cent, 86.0 per cent and 84.2 per

cent, respectively.

d. Refrigerator

Census 2010 showed that 81.2 per cent

of private households in Malaysia

owned refrigerators compared to

75.7 per cent in Census 2000. The state

which had the highest percentage was

Perlis (90.5%), followed by Terengganu

(89.1%) and Negeri Sembilan (88.6%).

e. Air-conditioner

In Malaysia, air-conditioners are still

considered a luxury item among the

households. The Census 2010 showed

that 22.3 per cent of households owned

air-conditioners compared to 16.2 per

cent in Census 2000. Selangor had the

highest percentage of households with

air-conditioners (32.6%), followed by

Pulau Pinang (30.3%) and W.P. Kuala

Lumpur (28.9%), while Kelantan had the

lowest percentages with 9.1 per cent.

f. Televisyen

Peratusan pemilikan televisyen adalah

tertinggi berbanding dengan peralatan

lain iaitu 86.5 peratus. Semua negeri

g. Telefon talian tetap

Langganan telefon talian tetap telah

menurun dengan drastik iaitu daripada

57.0 peratus pada tahun 2000 kepada

20.9 peratus pada tahun 2010. Semua

negeri mencatatkan penurunan dalam

peratusan bagi tempoh ini.

h. Telefon bimbit

Pada Banci 2010, sebanyak 71.0 peratus

isi rumah di Malaysia mempunyai

peralatan tersebut berbanding 27.1

peratus pada Banci 2000. Negeri yang

mempunyai peratusan tertinggi ialah

W.P. Putrajaya (87.6%), diikuti W.P.

Labuan (80.0%) dan W.P. Kuala Lumpur

(77.9%).

i. Komputer peribadi


18.2 peratus isi rumah di Malaysia

memiliki komputer peribadi, iaitu

kenaikan sebanyak 4.6 mata peratus

berbanding Banci 2000 (13.6%). W.P.

Putrajaya merekodkan peratus isi rumah

tertinggi yang memiliki peralatan

tersebut (30.2%), diikuti Selangor

(25.1%) dan Pulau Pinang (24.4%).

f. Television

The percentage of households owning

televisions were the highest compared

to other household items at 86.5 per

cent. All states in Malaysia recorded

more than 80 per cent of private

households which owned television.

g. Fixed line telephone

The subscription for fixed line

telephones had declined drastically from

57.0 percent in 2000 to 20.9 per cent in

2010. All states recorded decreases in

percentage during this period.

h. Mobile phone

In Census 2010, 71.0 per cent of

households in Malaysia had access to

this item compared to 27.1 per cent

during Census 2000. The state with the

highest rate was W.P. Putrajaya

(87.6%), followed by W.P. Labuan

(80.0%) and W.P. Kuala Lumpur (77.9%).

i. Personal computer

Census 2010 showed that 18.2 per cent

of households in Malaysia owned

personal computers (PC), which is an

increase of 4.6 percentage point

compared to Census 2000 (13.6%). W.P.

Putrajaya recorded the highest

percentage of households owning PCs at

30.2 per cent, followed by Selangor

(25.1%) and Pulau Pinang (24.4%).

j. Langganan internet

Banci 2010 mencatatkan 15.2 peratus isi

rumah di Malaysia yang mempunyai

langganan internet berbanding

6.9 peratus pada Banci 2000. Negeri

yang mempunyai peratusan tertinggi

adalah W.P. Putrajaya (41.3%), diikuti

Selangor (25.2%) dan W.P. Kuala Lumpur

(23.7%).

k. Penapis air

Secara keseluruhan, peratusan isi rumah

yang memiliki penapis air adalah

19.5 peratus. Negeri yang menunjukkan

peratusan tertinggi ialah W.P. Putrajaya

(34.5%), diikuti Selangor (27.1%) dan

Pulau Pinang (25.0%) manakala

peratusan terendah ialah Sabah (10.8%).

l. Komputer riba

Sebanyak 20.4 peratus isi rumah di

Malaysia memiliki komputer riba yang

mana W.P. Putrajaya mencatatkan

peratusan tertinggi iaitu 53.4 peratus.

Selangor mencatatkan peratusan kedua

tertinggi iaitu 30.3 peratus dan diikuti

W.P. Kuala Lumpur (29.5%).

m. Siaran TV berbayar


37.0 peratus isi rumah di Malaysia

memiliki siaran TV berbayar. Dua negeri

mencatatkan peratusan yang tinggi iaitu

melebihi 50 peratus adalah W.P. Labuan

(64.7%) dan W.P. Putrajaya (59.2%).

j. Internet subscription

Census 2010 recorded 15.2 per cent of

Malaysian households with internet

subscription compared to 6.9 per cent in

Census 2000. The state with the highest

percentage was W.P. Putrajaya (41.3%),

followed by Selangor (25.2%) and W.P.

Kuala Lumpur (23.7%).

k. Water filter

As a whole, the percentage of

households with water filter was

19.5 per cent. W.P. Putrajaya showed

the highest percentage (34.5%),

followed by Selangor (27.1%) and Pulau

Pinang (25.0%) whereas the lowest

percentage was Sabah (10.8%).

l. Laptop

A sum of 20.4 per cent of total

households in Malaysia owned laptops

of which W.P. Putrajaya recorded the

highest percentage at 53.4 per cent.

Selangor recorded the second highest

percentage at 30.3 per cent and

followed by W.P. Kuala Lumpur (29.5%).

m. Paid TV channel

The Census 2010 showed that

37.0 per cent of households in Malaysia

owned paid TV channel. Two states

recorded high percentages which were

more than 50 per cent were W.P.

Labuan (64.7%) and W.P. Putrajaya

(59.2%).
