What is Calcium L-threonate?Calcium L-threonate is a compound designed for the treatment of bone disease. L-threonic acid is an active metabolite of vitamin C which had been shown to have an ability in enhancing the bioavailability of minerals, such as calcium. It is well known that vitamin C is a marker for osteoblast formation and has been shown to stimulate procallagen and enhance collagen synthesis (Morton et al. 2001; Hall et al. 1998; Franceschi & Lyer 1992).

How can L-threonate helps in bone remodeling?In an in vitro study, calcium L-threonate was one of the metabolites that was suggested to influence the formation of mineralized nodules and collagenous proteins (Rowe et al. 1999).

In rabbit model study, L-threonate, specifically calcium L-threonate was found to inhibit the bone resorption of osteoclasts measured by the levels of type I collagen C-telopeptide (CTx) (He et al. 2005).

Calcium L-threonate was shown to have stimulation effects on proliferation rate, ALP activity and mineralization nodules formation of osteoblasts cultured in vitro and the effect was stronger than calcium gluconate or calcium chloride. Therefore, calcium L-threonate is a powerful compound in enhancing bone formation, while at the same time inhibiting the bone resorption of osteoclasts.

What is hydrolysed collagen?Hydrolysed collagen is derived from bone and cartilage. It composed of amino acids which are essential in building collagen and tissues in human body.

Studies have shown that orally administered collagen hydrolysate were absorbed in intestine, accumulated in cartilage and increased the synthesis of extracellular matrix macromolecules by chondrocytes, therefore it is helpful for patients with joint disorder, specifically osteoarthritis (Bello et al. 2006). Further, a 24-week study on the use of collagen hydrolysate as a dietary supplement in athletes with activity-related joint pain showed that the use of collagen hydrolysate significantly reduced pain, support joint health and possibly reduce the risk of joint deterioration (Clark et al. 2008).

Apakah itu kolagen hidrolisat?Kolagen hidrolisat diperolehi daripada tulang dan rawan. Ia terdiri daripada amino asid-amino asid yang diperlukan dalam pembentukan kolagen dan tisu-tisu dalam tubuh badan manusia.

Kajian-kajian telah menunjukkan bahawa kolagen hidrolisat yang diambil secara lisan telah diserap dalam usus, berkumpul di dalam rawan dan meningkatkan sintesis makromolekul matriks ekstraselular oleh kondrosit. Maka, kolagen hidrolisat sangat berguna untuk pesakit-pesakit yang mengalami gangguan sendi, terutamanya osteoarthritis (Bello et al. 2006). Tambahan pula, satu kajian selama 24 minggu yang menggunakan kolagen hidrolisat sebagai supplemen ke atas atlit-atlit yang mengalami kesakitan sendi yang disebabkan aktiviti-aktiviti sukan, telah menunjukkan bahawa penggunaan kolagen hidrolisat mengurangkan kesakitan secara signifikan, menyokong kesihatan sendi dan menunjukkan kemungkinan dalam mengurangkan risiko kemerosotan sendi (Clark et al. 2008).

Apakah itu γ-oryzanol?Ia merupakan minyak dedak padi yang diekstrak daripada lapisan luar bijian padi. γ-oryzanol tinggi dalam asid lemak mono tak tepu (MUFA) dan asid lemak poli tak tepu (PUFA), khasnya omega-6 (38%). Satu kajian intervensi selama 10 minggu yang dijalankan di negara Thai telah menunjukkan bahawa γ-oryzanol berkesan dalam menggurangkan tahap jumlah kolesterol dan LDL-kolesterol (Utarwuthipong et al. 2009). Tambahan pula, kajian US Nurses’ Health (n=80,082 wanita) telah melaporkan bahawa penggantian lemak tepu dengan PUFA dalam pemakanan harian dapat mengurangkan risiko relative untuk penyakit kardiovaskular sebanyak 42%. What is γ-oryzanol?It is rice bran oil extracted from the outer brown layer of rice.
