    What is Suratul-Kowthar all about?

Suratul-Kowthar is all about how Allah has given Rasulullah so many good things,

including a wonderful river in Jannah!

Special things about Surah Al Kawthar

The first thing that is so special about Suratul-Kowthar isIt is the shortest surah in the Quraan!Suratul-Kowthar is so small that it only has three ayaat (verses).

And those ayaat are so small that there are only eleven words altogether in the whole surah!Good things do come in small packages

The second thing that is so specialabout Suratul-Kowthar isIt tells us about Rasulullahs river in Jannah. This river is for Rasulullah and the Muslimswho followed what he told them to do.This river is not for the disbelievers. This river is not for Muslims who disobeyed Rasulullah. You know, there will be some Muslims who will want to come to drink from the river on

the day of judgment but they will be turned away. They will be turned away because they made changes to Islaam after Rasulullah was gone. This river is only for Rasulullah and the good believers who followed him, no one else!

Al-Kowthar is a river much nicer than any river you have ever seen before .We cannot even imagine how beautiful it will be!A sad story with a happy ending!

Many of the ayaat (verses) in the Quraan have a story behind them that tells whythey were revealed. These stories are calledAsbaab An-Noozool

The story behind the revelation ofSuratul-Kowthar is very sad but it has a happy ending!

The sad partSome of the disbelieving men in Makkah hated Islaam and hated Rasulullah, too. They did not want anything good to happen to him. They were only happy whensomething

difficult or sad happened to Rasulullah. They also thought they were better than Rasulullah. They thought that because they had many sons and a lot of money that Allah loved themand not Rasulullah.

Does having money and children mean Allah loves us?Can you think of some people mentioned in the Qur'aan who had a lot of wealth,

but Allah did not love them at all? Here's a hint: Two powerful Egyptians.PHIR_______N and his friend QAAR______N

Can you think of some people mentioned in the Qur'aan who did nothave wealth or many children that Allah loved very much?

    Here's a hint: Two prophets.

You see Rasulullah was not very wealthy, and although he had children, this surah wasrevealed after the death of his infant son Abdullah, who was his only son at that time.

In Makkah, if a man had no sons the other men would make fun of him by saying he was

ab-tar (i.e. cut-off, without male children). The other men in Makkah should have felt sad that Rasulullahs son had died, but insteadthey were happy. The men were happy at Rasulullah's loss because they hoped that the deathof his son meant the death of Islaam, too. (i.e. no one to remember Rasulullah or to keep

teaching his message after his death.)Allah did not like whatthe men were saying

    The happy part

So Allah decided to show those men how much he loved Rasulullah and how they were theones who were really ab-tar.This is how it happenedOne day Rasulullah was sleeping and he woke up smiling. The Sahaaba (i.e. his friends) asked

why he was so happy, and he told them about the new surah Allah had sent to him.The surah was called Al-Kowthar, and in it Allah told Rasulullah about a wonderful river thatwas just for him.Allah had given this river to Rasulullah because Rasulullah was good, and Allah loved him.

Allah wanted to show the disbelievers that Rasulullah was not cut-off just because his sonshad died.Rasulullah would be remembered and loved long after those disbelievers were dead andforgotten! They only had their children to remember them, but Allah remembered

Rasulullah, and Allah would make sure he was never forgotten!

Al-Kowthar means abundant good. it the name of Rasulullahs river andThe Quraysh had said that Rasulullah had nothing good now that his sons were gone, but

Allah said Rasulullah has a lot of good, more good than any of them

What started out as a sad story turned to a happy one, just because of one little surahAl-Kowthar!

Now lets learn what Suratul-Kowthar says

Secondly ,We say the BasmallahIn the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.(Bis-mil-laa-hir-rah-maa-nir-ra-heem)We remember Allah and say how great He isfor giving us so many wonderful blessings!

First We say the Isti'aadhahI seek refuge with Allah from the cursed Shaytaan.(A-oo-thoo-bil-laa-he-me-nash-shay-taa-nir-ra-jeem)

We start reading Quraan by askingAllah to protect us from Shaytaan and...

Allah tells RasulullahIndeed we have granted you O, Muhammed )Al-Kowthar!Rasulullah told the Sahaaba that Al-Kowthar is a river that Allah has given to him.

Al-Kowthar is very beautiful. Here are some of the things we know about it

Allah loved Rasulullah so much that he gave him Al-Kowthar as a gift in JannahAllah told Rasulullah about Al-Kowthar in Suratul-Kowthar.Allah also told Rasulullah somethingelse in Suratul-Kowthar

2Allahtold Rasulullah So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].(i.e. slaughter animals for food or for Eid Al-Adha) in the name of Allah to show how

thankful he was for all the good things Allah had given him. You see we can never thank

Allah enough for all of the blessings He has given to us.The only way to show Allah how grateful we are is to do the things Allah has told us to do,like making our prayers on time and remembering Allah in everything that we do!

Suratul-Kowthar is a very small surah, but it has A LOT ofinformation in it. Allah told Rasulullah about his river

Allah told Rasulullah how to be thankful for all of his blessingsNext Allah says in Suratul-Kowthar. But This message was about the men of Makkahwho had said mean things about Rasulullah. They had said that Rasulullah was ab-tarcut-off..So Allah told them

3.Indeed your enemy is the one cut off.! Those men are not remembered for anything now, butRasulullah is remembered by Muslims all over the world for how good he was.Rasulullah was not ab-tar, butthose men were.
