TVET TRAINING APPROACH

i. Competency Based Training (CBT)

TVET in Malaysia is a Competency Based Training

(CBT) which is an approach to vocational training that

emphasises on what a person can actually do in the

workplace as a result of education & training. The criteria

used in the evalution of competencies are clearly stated &

given in advance.

ii. Dual Training System(Apprenticeship Program)

The apprenticeship program aims to expose apprentices

to actual situations in the industry. Apart from technical

competencies, the NDTS also emphasizes human &social competencies such as team work, self monitoring,

shouldering common responsibilities & the like.

Approximately 70%-80% of the training is done in the

industry, while the remaining 20%-30% is carried out in

training instituitions, utilizing curriculum develope by the

National Occupational Core Curriculum (NOCC)

developed by the industry’s expert which outlines the

core competencies required for a range of occupations.

ii. Lifelong Learning- Accreditation PriorAchievement (APA)

or formely known as the Accreditation

of Prior Achievement is a method to

give recognition to any individual who

can demonstrate skills outlined in the
