airus ialah seorang ketua agama tempatan. Dia bukan sahaja menjaga Rumah Tuhan, dia juga mengurus kebaktian. Oleh itu dia berpangkat tinggi. Bagaimanapun, dia pergi mencari Yesus dengan rendah hati, serta bersujud di hadapan kaki Yesus dan meminta Dia menyembuhkan anaknya. Ini menunjukkan Yairus seorang yang ikhlas dan sangat yakin akan kuasa penyembuhan Yesus. Dalam perjalanan pulang, Yairus mendengar berita sedihbahawa anak perempuannya sudah mati. Bayangkan betapasedihnya Yairus. Dia tidak tahu apa yang harus dibuat. Beritasedih ini membuat Yairus berfikir bahawa semuanya sudahterlambat bagi anaknya. Segala harapan Yairus telah hilang. Ada orang yang berkata bahawa Yairus tidak patut menyusahkan Yesus lagi. Ketika itu, kepercayaan Yairus kepada Tuhan sedang diuji. Bagaimanapun, Yesus tetap berkuasa. Dia memahamiperasaan Yairus. Dia segera menghibur Yairus dengan berkata,“Jangan takut. Percayalah sahaja.” Kata-kata Yesus yangmenghibur membawa harapan baru ke dalam hati Yairus dan menguatkan kepercayaannya kepada Tuhan. Menurut adat resam orang Yahudi, keluarga orang yang mati akan mengupah orang untuk meratap dan menangis sertamembuat bising, supaya menunjukkan kesedihan mereka. Jadi apabila Yesus tiba di rumah Yairus, Dia melihat ramai orangsedang menangis dan membuat bising. Maka dia membawaYairus, isterinya dan tiga orang pengikut ke dalam bilik anak itu. Dengan kuasa Yesus yang hebat, Dia memanggil anak perempuan itu bangun. Dia juga menyuruh orang memberikan makanankepadanya. Yesus menunjukkan kasih dan belas kasihan-Nya yang agung. Dia juga menunjukkan kuasa-Nya untuk menghidupkan orang mati dan memberi harapan serta pertolongan kepada orang yang percaya kepada-Nya.

airus was the person in charge of the local synagogue. He not only looked after the place, but also madearrangements for the worship service. So he had a highstatus. However, he came to Jesus with a humble heart, knelt at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to heal his daughter. This shows how sincere he was and how much faith he had in Jesus’healing power. On the way home, Jairus heard the sad news that hisdaughter had died. Imagine how he must have felt. A feeling of great loss? Not knowing what to do? This unfortunate news must have made him think that it was too late to do anything for his daughter. All hope was lost and people suggested that he should not bother Jesus any more. His faith was severely tested. However, Jesus was always in charge. He understood how Jairus felt, so He immediately comforted him, saying, “Don’t worry. Just have faith.” Jesus’ comforting words brought new hope to Jairus’ heart and strengthened his faith. According to Jewish customs, the family of the dead would hire mourners to cry and make a loud noise to show their deep sorrow. So when Jesus arrived at Jairus’ home, He saw many people crying and making a noise. He took Jairus, his wife and the three disciples into the girl’s room. With His great power He called the girl to get up. He also told people to get her something to eat. Jesus showed not only His great love and mercy, He also showed that He has the power to call the dead to life and to give all those who trust in Him hope and help.

Siri “Cerita Penting” ini menyampaikan cerita-cerita daripada Perjanjian Lama dan Perjanjian Baru yang boleh dibaca sendiri oleh anak-anak. “Words of Wisdom” series presents stories from the Old and NewTestaments at a level that children can read for themselves. It contains bright and attractive pictures to help bring out the teaching of the Scriptures. The aim of the series is to make the Bible come alive to children so that they will become more interested in its message. Then they can see how valuable it is for their own lives. “Words of Wisdom” series provides background information for each story for parents to read. There are also questions to think about, in the hope that the message of the stories will be remembered. At the back of each booklet is theBible text for each story taken from the Good News Bible. These story books may be used as teaching materials in Sunday Schools as well as at home. They may also be used to share with friends who do not yet know about God’s Good News.

Pada suatu hari, Yesus menaiki perahu dan menyeberang Tasik Galilea. Orang ramai menyambut Dia di pantai.

One day, Jesus got into the boat and crossed Lake Galilee. There was a large crowd of people on the shore.

Yairus seorang ketua rumah ibadah orang Yahudi. Anak perempuannya yang berumur dua belas tahun sakit tenat. Yairus pergi mencari Yesus, lalu bersujud di depan kaki-Nya dan berkata, “Anak saya sakit tenat! Tolonglah datang dan letakkan tangan-Mu padanya, supaya dia sembuh dan selamat!”

There was a man called Jairus. He was the person in charge of the Jewish meeting place. His twelve-year-old daughter was very ill, so he went over to Jesus, knelt at His feet and begged Him, saying, “My daughter is about to die! Please come and place your hands on her, so that she will get well and be saved!”

Lalu Yesus pun mengikut Yairus ke rumahnya. Ramai orang lain juga mengikut mereka.

So Jesus went home with Jairus. Many people followed along and kept crowding about.

Dalam perjalanan, ada orang datang dari rumah Yairus dan berkata, “Anakmu sudah meninggal, janganlah susahkan guru lagi.”

On the way, some people came from Jairus’ home and said, “Your daughter has died! Why bother the teacher any more?”

Yesus tahu Yairus sangat sedih. Yesus segera menghibur dia, “Jangan takut. Percayalah sahaja dan anakmu akan sembuh.”

Jesus knew how sad Jairus felt, so He comforted him,saying, “Don’t worry. Just have faith. Your daughter will get well.”

Kemudian Yesus pergi ke rumah Yairus denganmembawa Petrus, Yakobus dan Yohanes. Dia tidak membenarkan orang lain mengikut Dia.

Then Jesus took Peter, James and John to Jairus’ home.He did not let other people go with Him.

Apabila Yesus dan pengikut-pengikut-Nya tiba di rumah Yairus, mereka melihat ramai orang sedang menangis dan membuat bising.

When Jesus and His disciples arrived at Jairus’ house, they saw people crying and making a lot of noise.

Yesus berkata kepada orang ramai ini, “Mengapa kamu menangis dan membuat bising? Anak itu tidak mati, dia hanya tidur!”

Jesus said to the people, “Why are you crying and carrying on like this? The child is not dead. She is just sleeping.”

Mereka ketawakan Yesus dan tidak percaya kepada-Nya. Jadi Yesus menyuruh mereka keluar dari rumah. Dia hanya membawa Yairus, isterinya dan tiga orang pengikut-Nya, lalu masuk ke bilik anak itu.

But the people laughed at Jesus and did not believe what He said. So Jesus sent them all out of the house. He only took Jairus, his wife and the three disciples, and went to where the child was.

Yesus memegang tangan anak itu dan berkata, “Anak, bangunlah!”

Jesus took the child by hand and said, “Little girl, get up!”

Anak perempuan itu segera bangun lalu berjalan.Semua orang berasa sangat kagum.

The girl got straight up and started walking.Everyone was greatly surprised.

Seterusnya Yesus menyuruh ibu bapa anak itu memberi dia makan. Dia melarang mereka memberitahu sesiapa pun tentang hal itu.

Jesus told the girl’s father and mother to give her something to eat. He ordered them not to tell anyone what hadhappened.

JAIRUS’ DAUGHTER

Jesus went back across to the other side of the lake. There at the lakeside a large crowd gathered around him. Jairus, an official of the local synagogue, arrived, and when he saw Jesus, he threw himself down at his feet and begged him earnestly, “My little daughter is very sick. Please come and place your hands on her, so that she will get well and live!” Then Jesus started off with him. So many people were going along with Jesus that they were crowding him from every side.

Mark 5:21-24

While Jesus was saying this, some messengers came from Jairus’ house and told him, “Your daughter has died. Why bother the Teacher any longer?” Jesus paid no attention to what they said, but told him, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.” Then he did not let anyone else go on with him except Peter and James and his brother John. They arrived at Jairus’ house, where Jesus saw the confusion and heard all the loud crying and wailing. He went in and said to them, “Why all this confusion? Why are you crying? The child is not dead—she is only sleeping!” They started making fun of him, so he put them all out, took the child’s father and mother and his three disciples, and went into the room where the child was lying. He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha, koum,” which means, “Little girl, I tell you to get up!” She got up at once and started walking around. (She was twelve years old.) When this happened, they were completely amazed. But Jesus gave them strict orders not to tell anyone, and he said, “Give her something to eat.”

Mark 5:35-43

ANAK PEREMPUAN YAIRUS Yesus kembali ke seberang tasik. Di pantai tasik itu, banyak sekali orang datang berkumpul di sekeliling Yesus. Yairus, ketua rumah ibadat tempatan, datang juga dan ketika dia melihat Yesus, dia sujud di hadapan Yesus. Dia memohon dengansungguh-sungguh, “Guru, anak perempuan saya sakit tenat. Tolonglah datang danletakkanlah tangan guru padanya, supaya dia sembuh dan tidak mati!” Yesus pun pergi bersama-sama Yairus. Orang yang mengikut Yesus amat banyak sehingga Dia diasak dari semua sisi.

Markus 5:21-24 Semasa Yesus berkata demikian, beberapa orang pesuruh datang dari rumahYairus dan memberitahu Yairus, “Anak perempuan tuan sudah meninggal. Tak usah tuan susahkan guru lagi.” Yesus tidak mempedulikan apa yang dikatakan oleh mereka, tetapi Diaberkata kepada Yairus, “Jangan takut, percayalah kepada-Ku!” Setelah itu Yesus tidakmembenarkan sesiapa pun mengikut Dia kecuali Petrus, Yakobus, dan Yohanes,saudara Yakobus. Apabila mereka tiba di rumah Yairus, Yesus melihat keadaan yang kecoh serta mendengar tangisan dan ratapan yang kuat. Lalu Yesus masuk danberkata kepada mereka, “Mengapa sangat kecoh dan mengapa menangis? Anak itu tidak mati; dia hanya tidur!” Mereka mula mentertawakan Yesus. Oleh itu Yesus menyuruh mereka semuakeluar. Dia mengajak ibu bapa anak itu serta ketiga-tiga orang pengikut-Nya masuk ke dalam bilik tempat anak itu berbaring. Yesus memegang tangan anak itu lalu berkata kepadanya, “Talitha kum,” yang bererti, “Anak perempuan, Aku berkata kepadamu: Bangun!” Anak perempuan itu segera bangun lalu berjalan. (Umurnya dua belas tahun.) Ketika peristiwa itu berlaku, mereka semua sangat kagum. Tetapi dengan tegas Yesus melarang mereka memberitahukan hal itu kepada sesiapa pun. Lalu Dia berkata, “Berilah anak ini makanan.”

Bagaimanakah sikap Yairus? Adakah kamu minta tolong Yesus baru-baru ini?

Apabila kamu berdoa kepada Yesus untuk minta tolong, bagaimana sikap kamu? Adakah kamu sungguh-sungguh?

Apabila Yesus mendengar anak perempuan itu meninggal,Dia segera berkata kepada Yairus, “Jangan takut. Percayalah saja.” Jika kamu Yairus, adakah kamu masih percaya bahawa Yesus akan

menolong kamu, walaupun kamu tiada harapan lagi?

Adakah kamu takut waktu gelap, keputusan peperiksaanyang tidak baik, jatuh sakit atau dimarahi oleh ibu bapa?

Selain itu, apa lagi yang kamu takut? Apabila kamu berasa takut, apa yang akan kamu lakukan?

Adakah kamu percaya Yesus boleh menolong kamu menjadi berani?

Yesus telah menunjukkan kuasa-Nya yang hebat,dengan menghidupkan anak perempuan Yairus yang telah meninggal.

Dialah Tuhan, yang penuh kasih dan belas kasihan. Dia mempedulikan kamu.

Adakah kamu menerima dan percaya akan kasih-Nyaterhadap kamu?

Jairus was a man with a high status.What did he ask Jesus for? What attitude did he have?

In recent time, what kind of help have you needed from Jesus?When you pray to Jesus and ask for His help,what attitude do you have? Are you sincere?

When Jesus heard about the death of the girl,He immediately said to Jairus, “Don’t worry. Just have faith.”

If you were Jairus, would you still trust that Jesus could help you,even though you had lost hope?

Are you afraid of darkness, of poor results, of getting ill orof being scolded by your father or mother?

Aside from these, what else are you afraid of?When you are afraid, what do you do?

Do you believe that Jesus can help you overcomeall these “fears”?

Jesus has shown His great power bybringing Jairus’ daughter back to life.

He is God, full of mercy and love. He cares about you.

Will you accept and trust in His love for you?
