ACTIVITY: STORY SEQUENCES
Procedure:-
1) Teacher will divide the class into eight groups of players.
2) Teacher will do a demonstration on how to fold a piece of A4 paper into eight
strips. Then, guided by the resulting creases, refold the paper into zigzags, like
the squeezy parts of a concertina or accordion. While teacher are demonstrating,
teacher will ask one pupil from each group to fold a piece of paper in the same
way.
3) Next, the teacher will start to explain about the procedure of the game. The first
player writes their contribution on the first panel of the concertina like the topmost
panel.
4) The player should do this quietly and secretly, folding the panel over when they
are done, so that no one else can see what was written.
5) Next, the second player follows suit, then the third, and so on, until all eight
contributions have been added.
6) The last player has the task of unfolding the concertina and reading out loud to
the others the full text of the little story that result.

3) Encourage the learners inclination to make the characters serious portrayals of
real people or to create fantasy people.
4) Later, ask the pupils to find pictures for homework which illustrate different
aspects of the protagonists lives such as a car, a house, a holiday, and so on.
5) Next, display these photographs and real objects together with the pictures of the
characters. Write on a poster what the class has agreed about each aspect. This
will act as a guiding model for the pupils when they invent their own person.
6) The pupils make a copy of this poster in their soap opera books. They can
represent the two protagonists by their names.
7) Extend the community by asking each pair or group of pupils to create another
protagonist, to choose a picture of him or her, and to write down his or her
particulars, then introduce their character to the rest of the class.
8) The pupils can then walk about in the class holding the picture of their character
in front of them and pretending to be that character. They meet other characters,
exchange names and ask for other information and decide whether they want to
be friends or not with each other.
9) After this activity, the pupils can make a relationship diagram and write a
description of the relationships. They can also write a letter to some others,
telling them about their meeting and why it was important to them.
10) Discuss and agree on a place for these people to live. It might be a city where
each person lives. Draw plans and maps, find or draw pictures, and record this in
the soap opera book.
11) Introduce an event like the electric supply for the town breaks down . it will
help the pupils to explore what the different people do, how they interact, what
stories they have to tell. A teacher can help the pupils by asking questions about
where the characters were, how they were affected, what they thought, felt, said,
and did, and so on. Teachers can also ask the pupils to write article about the
event for the local newspaper and record it in the soap opera book.
12) Lastly, decide with the pupils on what will happen next based on your teaching
programme and in accordance with the living drama the class has created.
