When thinking of Onshore handling equipment we think about cranes, stacker reclaimers,

conveyer-belts, ship transport installations and other installations for transport and trans-

shipment, both for break bulk and bulk cargos.

All these installations have to have a high reliability and availability. In order to create a reliable, safe

and cost efficient solution, we aim for a design with a strong integration of the main structure, the

Onshore Handling Equipment

The new generation of super heavy lift cranes

from Mammoet is about 235 metres high. The

cranes have a lifting capacity of 3200 tons and

a maximum radius of more than

200 metres. Thanks to Iv-Consult’s experience

in crane structures we were appointed as

partner for the engineering of the cranes.

“Damen Shipyards Sharjah FZE, a new shipyard in the Hamriyah Free Zone of the Emirate of Sharjah, selected

Iv-Consult for the design of the logistic layout and detailed design including tendering procedure for the award

of the construction contract.

The new shipyard is constructed on a 284,000 m2 plot of land with 1.2 km deep water wet berths and involves

one shiplift with a lifting capacity of 5200 ton. Eight dry-berths will be provided in the initial stage of which two

will be covered for new ship building activities and enclose latest ‘state of the art’ blasting and painting

facilities.

This project required advanced engineering specialists having that rare combination of skills in so many fields

like structural steel, concrete and mechanical engineering to meet our firm’s stringent specifications.

The detailing of steel structures is a discipline in itself. We design, calculate and draw the most

efficient connections for you. They are practical and makeable and are easy to assemble at the

same time.

We have an eye for detail whether it is regarding shop drawings for steel, mechanical or for civil

structures including detail engineering. We use drafting tools like 3D Tekla to assure the drawings are

correct and connections are used to the optimum.

Civil Structures

Build upon our knowledge

Industrial foundations, crane ways, shipyards, storage and trans-shipment yards or water

treatment installations. These are examples of civil engineering projects where concrete has

played an important role. Iv-Consult enters into the total context of your project and if

required from the beginning till the end.

We take the integration of moving and static structures on the foundation into account in our projects.

The integration of these disciplines make Iv-Consult a unique player. We have the required knowledge

of geotechnics and concrete structures. The overall knowledge of our specialists provides you with

Seismic analysis

In areas where earthquakes occur, it is of great importance to take these forces into account when

calculating the structure. A seismic analysis is a requirement for the new lock gates for the Panama

Canal. After all the canal lies on an earthquake fault and the gates must not collapse under any

circumstances. Iv-Consult has worked with a full team to deal with this challenging project and

incorporated their seismic analyses in the design.

Dynamics

Comfort and safety play an important role in structures. For example the London Eye

has to be as light and flexible as possible, but also take into account the sensitivity of

the dynamic effects of the structure. Iv-Consult integrates the dynamic analysis results

in a perfect design. In the London Eye there are special dampers that adequately do

their work, so it always remains a pleasant ride under all circumstances.

Logistics

A large site offers lots of logistic configurations, but what is the best solution? How do you achieve an

effective workflow on your yard? Logistic challenges that need technical insight and a pragmatic

Fatigue

Recurring loads have an effect on structures. Over time these structures experience fatigue. Platforms

at sea experience forces from waves and cranes that are continually being used have to remain

structurally sound. When a structure is cyclicly loaded it can not be ignored that at a certain moment

in time there is a risk of fatique related problems. Iv-Consult analyses these risks and integrates the

outcome in the designs and maintenance manuals. This requires the use of advanced calculation

techniques, the application of organic forms and creative solutions that limit the effects of fatigue.
