Kata Alu-Aluan Dekan

Assalamualaikum dan salam sejahtera kepada pelajar-pelajar baru yang saya kasihi,

Selamat datang dan tahniah kerana telah berjaya dan terpilih untuk menjejakkan kaki ke Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. Kehadiran anda semua khususnya di Pusat Pendidikan Asas dan Lanjutan (PPAL) amatlah dialu-alukan. Pada masa ini, PPAL menawarkan kursus-kursus Teras Universiti dan kursus Elektif universiti sebagai sebahagian daripada perkhidmatan pembelajaran dan pengajaran (P&P) untuk melengkapkan keperluan program pengajian peringkat diploma dan ijazah pertama di UMT.

Kursus-kursus pra siswazah yang ditawarkan meliputi bahasa, komunikasi, kursus asas suatu bidang ilmu (sains, teknologi, pengurusan, dan sains sosial), badan beruniform, kesenian, kebudayaan, etika dan kemanusiaan. Penawaran kursus-kursus ini adalah sangat penting serta releven bagi membolehkan pelajar terdedah kepada kursus asas dan pendidikan lanjutan aras tinggi yang diperlukan bagi membentuk insan yang holistik, memiliki daya kreativiti dan berkeyakinan tinggi.

Akhir kalam, adalah menjadi iltizam dan usaha kami warga PPAL untuk menjayakan visi dan misi universiti melalui pendekatan pendidikan yang holistik. Semoga gagasan usaha yang dijalankan ini diberkati dan memberi satu impak yang besar terhadap pembangunan holistik pelajar serta menghasilkan graduan yang cemerlang.

Sejarah Ringkas Universiti Malaysia Terengganu

Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) telah bermula dengan sebuah Pusat Perikanan dan Sains Samudera pada tahun 1979, yang menyediakan kemudahan latihan pelajar Program Perikanan dan Sains Samudera di samping menyediakan kemudahan penyelidikan untuk pensyarah. Melalui Penstrukturan semula program akademik di UPM, keseluruhan Fakulti Perikanan dan Sains Samudera telah dipindahkan ke Terengganu dan diberi nama baru iaitu Fakulti Sains Gunaan dan Teknologi (FSGT) mulai Jun 1996. Turut ditubuhkan ialah Fakulti Sains dan Sastera Ikhtisas (FSSI) dan Pusat Pengajian Matrikulasi (PPM).

Mulai Jun 1996, kampus ini telah diiktiraf (secara dalaman UPM) sebagai sebuah pusat tanggungjawab dan dinamakan Universiti Pertanian Malaysia Cawangan Terengganu (UPMT) dan diketuai oleh seorang Rektor (designate). Jemaah Menteri dalam mesyuaratnya pada 5 Mei 1999 telah bersetuju meluluskan cadangan penubuhan Kolej Universiti Terengganu (KUT) berasaskan Pusat Perikanan dan Sains Samudera Universiti Pertanian Malaysia di Mengabang Telipot, Kuala Terengganu.

Perintah Kolej Universiti Terengganu (Perbadanan) 1999 (PUA 292) telah diluluskan oleh Dewan Rakyat pada 26 Julai 1999. KUT adalah Kampus bersekutu UPM dan pelajar akan dikurniakan ijazah dari UPM. KUT telah diberi kuasa autonomi sebagai Kolej Universiti Terengganu pada 1 Mei 2001. Pada 1 Julai 2001 KUT dengan rasminya telah bertukar nama sebagai Kolej Universiti Sains dan Teknologi Malaysia dengan singkatan KUSTEM.

Bermula pada 1 Februari 2007 bersamaan 13 Muharam 1428H, tercipta satu lagi sejarah dalam sistem pendidikan di Malaysia. Dalam usaha mengukuhkan kedudukan IPTA Negara, enam buah Kolej Universiti telah melalui penjenamaan semula kolej-kolej universiti. Kini KUSTEM di kenali sebagai Universiti Malaysia Terengganu.

BBB2013 : English For Academic Communication 1 Kredit : 3

Prasyarat : MUET Band 1 dan Band 2

This course is designed to improve students’ language proficiency, in particular speaking skills. A variety of reading

passages and dialogues are provided to stimulate/ encourage ideas and thoughts for speaking and writing tasks. Basic sentence patterns are reviewed and ample vocabulary from the general word list are presented consistently throughout the

course.

BBB3103 : Academic Writing Skills

Kredit : 3 Prasyarat : MUET Band 3 ke atas This course will enable students to improve their English writing skills. It is hoped that the skills which students develop in this course will enable them to write assignments in English for other courses throughout their studies at the university.

This course is designed to reinforce essay composition skills and introduce students to the practice of writing for academic purposes including paragraph structure, coherence, unity, mechanics, direct quotation, and APA style citation.

BBB3023 : Public Speaking

Prasyarat : Tiada This course helps students to develop the skills and the confidence to interact with others in English. Students are introduced to the appropriate vocabulary and language structures used when sharing ideas and information. They are also exposed to the technique of presenting ideas and arguments. Through guided activities, students practise to improve on the pronunciation and enunciation of words. They are given the opportunities to improve their social skills, sense of responsibility, and teamwork. BBB3033/BBB3103 : English Of Occupational Purposes

Kredit : 3 Prasyarat : Tiada This course is designed to further improve the English language communication skills of second and final year students who will be graduating and joining the workforce. aspek pensejarahan awal sehingga pembentukan Malaysia moden serta keberadaan Malaysia dalam konteks kontemporari. Kursus ini memberi penekanan kepada agenda pembangunan politik, ekonomi dan sosial Malaysia, baik di peringkat

nasional atau antarabangsa. Ia juga meliputi sistem dan struktur kerajaan, konsep demokrasi berparlimen, Perlembagaan Persekutuan serta Rukun Negara sebagai ideologi nasional. Selain itu, kursus ini mengenengahkan isu-isu

This course covers basic concepts on the value of integrity, forms of corruption, abuse of power in daily life and

organizations as well as ways to prevent corruption. Therefore, students are given basic guidance of responsibility on how to fight corruption and give a high commitment by showing lawful and ethical behavior at all times. Issues related

to corruption cases will be discussed such as white collar crime, fraud and corruption, causes and consequences of corruption, anti-corruption reporting and action, as well as corporate responsibility.

NCC3203 : Islam dan Ekonomi Islam and Economics Kredit : 3 (3+0) Prasyarat : Tiada

Kursus ini mendedahkan kepada pelajar tentang konsep umum ekonomi Islam yang menekankan kepada hubungan antara Pencipta dan makhluk, termasuk kepentingan harta serta penggunaannya dalam kehidupan. Ini

Kursus ini akan menekankan kepada kepentingan untuk menghargai alam dan warisan. Pelajar diberi pendedahan

maklumat berkaitan keselamatan dan penyelamatan di air (contoh; laut, sungai, kolam renang dan sebagainya) Pelajar

juga diwajibkan untuk mengikuti aktiviti yang dapat membangunkan kemahiran insaniah secara holistik (contoh: Sukan & Rekreasi, Komunikasi & Kepimpinan, Seni & Budaya, Kerohanian, Keusahawanan dan Kesukarelawanan).

This course will emphasize on the importance of appreciating nature and heritage. Students will be given exposure

to information related to safety and rescue in water (eg: sea, river, swimming pool, etc). Students are also required

CCS3162 : Pelayaran Lanjutan

Kredit : 2 Prasyarat : • Basic sailing (CCS 3152); or • Basic sailing competency (MNS 2203) This course introduces student to the knowledge of advanced sailing. Student will be trained to master in a technique of racing, boat handling in adverse weather, sailing rules, risk assessment and racing ethics. At the end of this course, student will have the opportunity to participate in regatta or sailing course to gain the experience and exposure as a professional sailor.

Kursus ini memberi fokus kepada aspek sejarah perkembangan bahasa Melayu secara umum sebagai pengenalan diikuti dengan pendedahan kepada aspek-aspek asas untuk berbahasa dengan betul dari segi penggunaan sistem ejaan

This course is aims to train students to master the strategies of enhancing interpersonal communication skills in various

contexts through exposure to the importance of human communication, theories, mods and interpersonal communication processes. This course also emphasizes verbal, non-verbal communication and various interactions in communication. In

addition, discussions on theories and processes of perception, the influence of interpersonal behavior, self-management, self-

expression, relationships, intimacy and friendship are also covered.

Basic Production Film Documentary Kredit : 3 (2+1)

This course exposes students to the concept and production techniques of a documentary film. Students are trained to be able to practice these concepts and techniques in producting a documentary. Students are also given the opportunity

to produce a group-based documentary film that matches the publishing requirements.

This course gives students an exposure to the basic concepts of entrepreneurship. Students will do learning activities

that lead to building an entrepreneurial mindset as an initial preparation for a future career. This course provides an exposure to students on knowledge in entrepreneurship. It also gives students the opportunity to apply the

knowledge obtained from their respective fields. In addition, the course aims to apply the entrepreneurial mind sets into

their life after graduation.

This course aims to provide exposure to students related to food science, the relationship and importance of food science

in food industry and the nutritional status of the community. Students will be exposed to the basic elements of food especially water, carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, pigments, flavors, natural toxicants,

contaminants and food additives. Role of such components in the food system and the effect of nutrition on health status.

Disclosure of factors influencing food quality and operating units involved in food processing, current developments and career opportunities will be discussed. At the end of this course, students will can apply knowledge of food science

in daily life.

PPA3133 : Isu dan Kepentingan Tanah Bencah

This course enables students to understand the importance and value of wetlands in human life. Wetland education in dealing with indifference to wetland ecosystems can be unraveled. The global warming crisis, sea level rise,

sustainable management of water and soil resources, the uniqueness of wetland ecosystems as well as the diversity of flora and fauna are emphasized in maintaining it for future generations. Economic value and providing

employment opportunities to the community make wetlands a source of income that is taken seriously by the government. Next, students will discuss the challenges of current issues as well as the conservation process in preventing wetland

habitats from further destruction.

PPA3263 : Kelestarian Ekonomi

This course aims to provide students with basic knowledge on the evolution of economic development ideology

towards sustainable development . Students will be explained on the differences between the conventional economic development and the new economic development that emphasizes on human and social development as well

as preserving the environment. The achievement of economic sustainability through the concept of green economy and

blue economy will also be discussed.
