Dear Members,

The year is now coming to an end and time has flownby so quickly that it seems like only yesterday whenI took over the Publication Committee. Next monthwill be my last edition. During the present year so farPublication Committee conducted a number ofprograms specially for children like Etiquettes,Presentation Skills, English Language so on andso forth.

As informed earlier we are organizing an evening forall our members who have achieved something duringthis calendar year on 2nd December 2016 at KarachiClub (Main) Similarly there is a Spelling Bee Contestplanned and an art competition planned for themonth of November.

TennisKC Tennis Sub Committee sponsored and organized the25th KC ITF World Ranking Seniors Tennis Championship2016 in October.

Junior events were also added for promotion of Young Talent.

More than 100 players across Pakistan participated in thistournament featuring 12 events of Juniors & Seniors.

35 Singles was won by Kaleem Ghanchi of Karachi Clubwho beat defending champion Asad Ali Bhagat in a closelycontested final lasting 2 hours, Kaleem won the match7-5, 0-6, 10-5.

35 Doubles was won by Asad Ali Bhagat & Reza Ali Mirzawho beat Haider Ali Khan & Mohammed Manzar 6-2,6-2

45 Singles was won by Reza Ali Mirza who beat Israr Gul ofPeshawar 6-2,6-4

45 Doubles was won by Zulfiqar Sarhadi & Israr Gul whobeat Shahid Hussain & Asif Ismail of Karachi Club 6-3,6-4

ScrabbleYet another successful event “The Scrabble Competition”was organized by Karachi Club Scrabble Sub Committeeunder the convenorship of Mohammad Amin Bawany andin collaboration with Pakistan Scrabble Association onSunday, 2nd October 2016 at Karachi Club (Annexe) BanquetHall. In this edition we had 3 age groups:

Managing Committee

On 20th, October 2016, Extra Ordinary General BodyMeeting was held at the Lawn of Karachi Club. Thiswas a historic EOGM as the entire rules of the clubwere re-written and presented to the General Bodyfor approval.

By the Grace of Almighty Allah all the rules presentedto the general body were approved which includedthe long standing demand of the members like theright of our daughter members to become

Mr. Haji Ghani Usmanwas the Chief Gueston the occasion andMr. Shiraz Dharamsywas the Guest of Honor. At the end Mr. Sohail AminDhedhi presented the vote of thanks to the membersand the sponsors.

As usual, an extremely well attended program byAshfaq Ghory and his team. The seminar wasfollowed by Dinner.

Health & Fitness

The Karachi Club Health and Fitness Committeeorganized a Seminar on the topic of “Pain FreePakistan” under its convenor Mr. Ashfaq Ghory on18th, October 2016 in association with PharmatecPakistan Pvt. Ltd.

Dr. Khalid Mahmud Shah was the guest speaker onthe subject. Dr. Shah gave a detailed briefing onOrtho issues and enlightened members on theprevention as well as management of pain in bonesand joints. The lecture was followed by a question& answer session which went on for a very long time

Twoplayers of Karachi Club who were outstandingthroughout the tournament were awarded the best pairof Karachi Club. In the Team Event Bilal Team stood 1stPosition while GM and Data Steel secured 2nd and 3rdPosition respectively. KC Green was awarded the BestTeam of the Karachi Club.

Bridge

Bridge is a fun and challenging game to be enjoyed byplayers of all ages. Mohammad Amin Bawany, ConvenorBridge and his committee recently organized “KC BridgeCongress 2016” from 28th till 30th October 2016 atKarachi Club (Annexe) Banquet Hall. As many as 32 pairsand 13 teams comprising seniors members from theBridge society across the country participated in theevent. Mr. Khalid Arain, Chairman CAP was the Guest ofHonor. The winners were awarded cash prizes andmomentous by the Guest of Honor. Honorary Secretaryof the club Mr. Jawed H. Karim and members of managingcommittee were also present.

Fascinated by this whole decryption of AIESEC, I got myself registered. After showing up in different assessmentsand interviews, I got to know that I had made it through and become an AIESECer. I couldn’t believe it, I had madeit into the world’s largest youth-run organization after a series of the toughest recruitment procedures ever to befaced in my life and from a pool of 4000+ students from all over Karachi speaks volumes in itself about the widespreadpopularity of this organization amongst students of not just Karachi or Pakistan for that matter but the entire world.

I later got to know that AIESEC worked in a very systematic fashion following from Local Committees that fall underthe National Chapter that in turn fall under AIESEC International. I was star struck after realizing the fact that I waspart of global network of 90000 members from 126 countries and territories and an ever-growing network of1,200,000+ Alumni. That is just massive and what’s brilliant is that the numbers just keep increasing. So AIESEC isbasically the best thing that ever happened to me. But wait, fate wasn’t done with me yet. Miracles just kept knockingat my doorsteps. Starting in the very few months, I became a team leader that had 5 members working under me.If that wasn’t enough, I sson became the OCVP (Organizing Committee Vice President) for a national conferencewhich is the biggest achievement one can have after just being 6 months in AIESEC. It’s been about a year now andthings are looking pretty smooth for me. I expect to run for LCVP (Local Committee Vice President) for one of thedepartments. Let’s see where the winds might take me.

From where I stand today, if someone had asked me a year ago if I believed in miracles or not, I probably would’veanswered negatively. But things have changed now. I’m not the same person I used to be. I’ve groomed myselfexponentially and I have far more connections any average sophomore student should or could have. As of today,I could proudly say that I’m a global-citizen, more self-aware, solution oriented and ready to empower others. Thatis what AIESEC believes in and that is how we’re changing the world i.e. ‘One Person at a time’. Oh and I almost forgot,I DO believe in miracles. I am the miracle!
