TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

Dear Sir,

SPONSORHIP FOR SCHOLARSHIIPS

TRAINING ORPHANS TILL JOB PLACEMENT

GREETINGS from BACUS Malaysia.

BHARATH ARTS AND CULTURAL SOCIETY MALAYSIA (BACUS) is a

Malaysian registered Charitable Society. Founded by a group of professional musicians

and dancers, influential entities from Malaysia and internationally, along with the

support of the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism & Culture, we have the Hope and Will to

build bridges across cultures through music, arts and dance to reach out and strengthen

these means as a gateway to personal development and social inclusion.

One of the many projects we have embarked on is one we know you will want to join

hands with us to create a new world for orphans/underprivileged children. They are

often forgotten after they leave their orphanages/homes at the age of 17+ to begin their

lives. This is where they lose direction and are found in the wrong paths of life or

entering into social ills. At BACUS, we want to show them a new opportunity, with a

new destination, with a new direction. Using new transformative learning experiences

with the dying 64 art forms and culture, we want to enliven and enlighten them, change

their lives for the better and renew their relations with other people and the community.

While they are still homed in Orphanages/Homes, we want to offer these talented

children of 15 to 17 years of age an opportunity to embark on a new possible future in

Music & Dance. We will educate and train them using a well-designed syllabus from

Sangeetha Swara Laya, Malaysia, Alagappa Performing Arts Academy USA and

Alagappa University India through the different levels through Certificate, Diploma to

Degree, and give them a job placement in the many centres we have in Malaysia and

they will be doing the same for other children around Malaysia.

Page 4: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

4

We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to help Sponsor our

orphans/underprivileged students who have no definitive DIRECTION after the age of

17+.

“Knowledge can neither be stolen by thieves nor can it be taken away by

kings. It can neither be divided among brothers nor is it a load on one's

shoulders. The more you give it, the more you get it back, In this way the

wealth of knowledge is the best wealth"

Why we DO what we DO:

1. Do you know after 17+ the orphans/underprivileged children that have no income

and family must leave the HOMES?

2. Imagine in this big wide world when everyone is searching for WEALTH, FAME

AND ASSETS what is the probability this ORPHAN child will survive without a

JOB, MONEY, FOOD or ACCOMODATION?

3. How far do you think this ORPHAN will go in LIFE without support?

4. What impact will it have on their lives?

5. What’s next ? What do you think he/she may choose to do?

6. DRUGS? ROBBERY? MURDER? THEFT? SMUGGLING? ETC?

7. WHY ALL THIS?

Because

a. The ORPHAN child has nobody to rely on and guide them.

b. The ORPHAN child has no money to support themselves.

c. All he wants to do is LIVE!

8. What happens to some unfortunate ones? They end up as victims of human

trafficking.

9. Some may also end up living in Mental Homes despite being mentally sound.

After seriously thinking about this, we at BACUS have decided to do what we do!

In the good olden days of ancient India, traditionally people were taught in one or more

of the skills according to their aptitude for livelihood. The 64 Art Forms were taught as

survival skills. BACUS has begun a journey of reviving these dying art forms to be

taught as skills to the students, members and the community at large. From these art

forms, with Music and dance that we currently have the expertise in will be taught. The

other art forms will follow suit.

Page 5: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

5

What WE do:

1. The ORPHAN/UNDERPRIVILEGED children complete their education and all

fees and cost are sponsored and covered by your donation for the next 3 years /

till graduation.

2. The graduated children ARE given Alagappa University Certification.

3. After finishing certification, we help create and give them job opportunities with

monthly salaries.

4. We help them improve the education qualification from Certificate to Diploma to

Degree to Masters and eventually PhD.

What YOU get:

1. The children are introduced to his adopted parents.

2. Every 6 months his progress is sent to you for monitoring.

3. At his graduation you will be invited to attend, witness and bless his academic

accomplishments and be his well-wisher in his life

4. During all crucial moments in his life he will remember and invite you to all his

HAPPY MOMENTS.

On Nov 10 2014, BACUS was officially launched at an event held at Midlands

Convention Centre, Shah Alam THE NIGHT OF MUSIC FUSION, “ISAI SANGAMA

IRAVU 2014” under the patronage of the Minister of Tourism & Culture Malaysia, YB

Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz. It was a great event, with over 1000

people attending including the Minister of Tourism & Culture, Ambassadors and Heads

Of Corporate Organisations. At each VIP tables, we will help place 2 persons from your

organisation to get the exposure to the select Ultra High Net Worth individuals and Key

Decision makers in Malaysian Corporate ( primarily Indian or of Indian origin ) in a

professional and discreet manner.

It would be an excellent opportunity for your organisation to associate your good selves

with this worthwhile cause. It is at this event we kick started the program BACUS

ORPHAN SCHOLARSHIP (BOS) where 25 scholarships to orphans/underprivileged

children is given this year. With your support, we intend to grow the numbers to

HUNDREDS in years to come.

We hope you would greatly consider our invitation to be a Sponsor. Being able to

continue with your financial support is to make hopes and dreams come true. We look

forward to the opportunity of working with you on this project.

We sincerely look forward to hearing from you. Please do not hesitate to give me a call. I

would be more than happy to assist you with further information or clarification.

BACUS ORPHAN SCHOLARSHIP (BOS)

PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN

Care for Today. Hope for Tomorrow

1.0 INTRODUCTION TO BOS Program

Losing a parent is traumatic for any child, anywhere. In countries where war,

famine and poverty are common, millions of children are orphaned and left to

struggle for survival. Staying with a compassionate relative helps orphans begin

to overcome the trauma of losing one or both parents.

Many orphans around the world are exploited as cheap labour when they are

forced to fend for themselves. This lifestyle not only robs these children of their

childhoods, but also limits their potential to grow and reach for a brighter future.

For these children, time is running out.

With our affiliation with homes, the total number sponsored has reached 25

students a year. Each child receives 3 years of education and certification from

University with job placement. The support is often enough to lift an orphan out

of poverty. One-to-one orphan sponsorships strive to keep orphans with a family

member - allowing orphans to remain with a guardian who may not have been

able to afford to care for them on their own.

Full sponsorship costs RM 1,000 per month for 25 months and Semi Scholarship

between RM 100 to RM 300 a month - between RM 5 and RM 10 a day.

"With Your Help We Can Give These Children The Care They Need,

Providing Them With Education And Emotional Support."

2.0 MISSION & VISION

Bharath Arts and Cultural Society (BACUS) is a non profit organization in

Malaysia dedicated to promote Indian's 64 Arts and Culture. BACUS has

embarked on a scholarship cum sponsorship with the following vision and

mission.

2.1 OUR MISSION

We exist to love and care for orphans and vulnerable children, by meeting their

spiritual, physical, educational, emotional and social needs that they might

overcome their life circumstances and break free from the cycle of generational

poverty.

2.2 OUR VISION

We desire for every orphan and vulnerable child to have the opportunity for

success through care for today and hope for tomorrow. Our goal is that each child

would experience restoration to a life of purpose in which they can become

fulfilled with the knowledge and education provided by our mature lecturers

3.0 HOW TO SPONSOR?

There are 2 Ways to sponsor :

1) You may donate to the BOS Program also known as BACUS Orphan

Sponsorship (BOS) Program Fund by sponsoring RM 25,000 one time

sponsorship or RM 1,000 for 25 months. This will be used for the child’s

education for 3 years.

2) You can either sponsor an orphan (or more than one) for RM 80 a month or

RM 800 a month, depending on the state of origin of the orphan and the level of

assistance they require.

For orphan sponsorship application, please contact us at [email protected]

Alternatively, you can also acquire an application form by speaking to any of our

BOS Program representatives in person. Whatever level of financial support

you are able to provide for your orphan we will ensure that he/she receives

education support from us.

Page 9: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

9

3.1 SPONSORSHIP FUNDING

Sponsorship funding is RM 25,000 per child, depending on the child's age,

location, situation, and needs. Sponsors are able to track the usage of their

funds through our BACUS report submitted every 6 months. We are very

careful to serve each child on an individual basis, to suit their specific needs and

all education care is provided in the name of the child's sponsor so that the child

understands, most importantly, that somebody is caring for them

individually. While every child’s needs are unique, in general funds are focused

on education for 3 years and upon completion of their studies job opportunity

awaits him/her.

With an additional sponsorship of RM 300 per month, the child's nutrition;

health/hygiene; educational needs including school supplies, uniforms/shoes,

classes/tutoring; clothing; extra-curricular activities, educational events,

excursions; and individual gifts for birthdays and special events can also be

taken care off.

You can make a difference in the life of a child! We invite you to share your life

through the BOS Program! Through sponsorship, you’ll have a chance to join us

as we seek to meet each child’s spiritual, physical, educational, emotional and

social needs. Help a child rewrite his or her future by joining BOS’s sponsorship

team. Here are extra three distinct ways you can make a difference through

sponsorship

Page 10: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

10

Nourish Sponsorship: Nourish Every Day. Provide for the everyday essential

needs of the children we serve. Your commitment will allow us to meet vital

needs, such as safe drinking water, nutritious meals and clean clothing. Twice a

year, Nourish sponsors receive an electronic update from the site they sponsor

with an update from one of the orphanages or communities at that site. To

become a Nourish sponsor, donate. RM 80/month

Restore Sponsorship: Restore Every Child. Connect with one child to provide

holistic orphan care, providing for his or her spiritual, physical, educational,

emotional and social needs. Restore Sponsors assist us in meeting the sponsor

child’s basic physical needs, in addition to ensuring we’re able to address broader

needs, such as counselling, medical care and tutoring. Each Restore Sponsor

chooses one child to sponsor, and each child may have up to two sponsors. A

Restore sponsor will receive a minimum of two personal letters a year from their

child, and up to four letters, depending on how often they write to their

child. Twice a year, a Restore sponsor will receive an electronic update from the

orphanage or community where their child lives. To become a Restore Sponsor,

please donate RM 300/month

Transform Sponsorship: Transform Every Home. Spark transformation in a

children’s home to make a lasting difference. Your commitment will enable us to

meet large-scale needs of the children’s homes and communities we serve. A

Transform Sponsor will sign up to sponsor a specific orphanage or community,

and have the opportunity to be connected with a child from the home should they

choose. Each year, a Transform sponsor will receive two electronic updates from

the orphanage or community, and a special thank-you from the orphanage. To

become a Transform sponsor, please donate RM 800/month

3.2 SPONSOR-CHILD COMMUNICATION

BACUS Sponsors and children are able to communicate with each other at will,

via email and regular postal mail, through the BACUS liaison dedicated solely to

the BACUS program site. The children's letters are translated by the liaison

and emailed to the sponsor. Sponsors write to their children in a like manner,

via email through the site liaison, and are free to send postal mail to their

sponsored child as well.

BACUS site liaisons are local individuals, dedicated to the local BACUS site and

children, and are thus intimately familiar with each child. Sponsors are free to

communicate with their BACUS liaison at will, and any information about the

sponsored child that might be of interest to the sponsor is provided by the site

liaison on a regular basis. Our liaisons themselves are wonderful, dedicated

Page 11: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

11

individuals, and our sponsors often enjoy their communications with the liaison

almost as much as their communications with the child!

3.3 SPONSOR-CHILD MATCHING

BACUS does not allow prospective sponsors to simply pick and choose among

the children in need, for the same reason that the child does not choose their

sponsor (the child is in fact extremely pleased with who their sponsor might be! -

a wonderful virtue). However, we do believe that sponsors can contribute most

to a child with whom they can best relate. As part of the sign-up process, we

encourage prospective sponsors to comment on any factors that might be useful

for us to consider in the matching process. This is for the child's benefit, to be

matched with somebody who can best relate to them. For their part, the

sponsor's interest should be in helping any child who is in need of their care and

attention. We never expect our children to feel "fortunate" to have a sponsor;

rather, these children are unfortunate to have the need for such, -unfortunate to

lack what every child deserves: the complete nurturing of a parent. As

magnanimous as sponsorship is, for their part the children inherently deserve

what this sponsorship provides.

4.0 HOW DOES IT WORK? - SSL

We SCREEN orphaned, abandoned, and educationally weak children.

We SHARPEN these children with the 64 arts.

We LAUNCH these well-trained young men and women back into their

communities. After completing their certificate, these young youths are sent into

our community where they share the art and love taught to them by

building relationships, sharing knowledge and educating the younger

generation.

4.1 WHAT DO I GET WHEN I SPONSOR A CHILD?

When you partner with us to sponsor a child in BACUS, you will receive:

Email updates with pictures of the children in our program along

with testimonies or news that is available.

Prayers of gratitude three times a day by all the children for you and your

family.

The opportunity to visit your sponsored children (where possible) when

you come.

1. General

a) BOS and Child Protection - The security and protection of our children

is of utmost importance and legal necessity. To this end we are

established as legal entities at our program sites, and only our trained

liaisons are permitted direct interaction with the children. Thus all

communication (email, postal mail, and sponsor visits) with the children

must be via the site liaison or BOS staff, without exception, and this is by

necessity strictly enforced. While providing this necessary protection and

meeting this legal obligation, we have also gone to great lengths to make

this system as transparent as possible, so that the child and sponsor can

still enjoy a virtually direct relationship, which is actually augmented by

the encouragement and involvement of the liaison.

b) BOS and Child Privacy - BOS is as open as possible with the

information it provides to sponsors regarding their sponsored

child. Information, photos, and child correspondence are provided with

the assumption that they are for the private knowledge of the sponsor, or

to be shared very prudently. The child knows only their sponsor, and

Page 19: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

19

assumes a private relationship with them. Out of respect for the child and

the relationship, sharing of the child's information with others via email,

internet, or otherwise, should be done with the same considerations one

might give to sharing their own child's photos, communications, or

personal information.

c) BOS and Religion - For every child, we

believe in fostering their belief in the

greatest power in their lives, which is

themselves. Our mission of encouraging

the child's sense of individuality does not

allow us to foster any other ideology in

our children. We highly respect the

existing diversity in our children's

cultural, ethnic, and religious

backgrounds, and are proud to have the

same diversity amongst our staff and sponsors as well.

2. Finance

a) When is my Financial Record updated?

Your Financial Record is updated every time there is either expenditure or

deposit activity on your account (see next two questions).

b) When do my deposits appear on my Financial Record?

For the most part, deposits are recorded on a weekly basis. Thus, your deposit

will generally be posted within a week of when it is received. Sponsors are

always free to email if they are concerned about the status of their deposit.

c) When do expenditures appear on my Financial Record?

While the site liaisons make expenditures throughout the month, these are

compiled and reported at the end of each month, and usually appear on the

sponsor's Financial Record within a few days thereafter. If there are no

expenditures on your child during a particular month, no update is made to your

Financial Record.

d) When should I send my funds?

BOS is intentionally informal, and there is thus no monthly "bill" or reminder

regarding your sponsorship payment, nor is there a monthly due-date for when

funds must be received. Funds may be sent weekly, monthly, yearly, or in

whatever inconsistent increments are most convenient for the sponsor! We

simply ask sponsors to keep track of their funds in their Financial Record and to

ensure that the monthly amount they have pledged is provided for. At the top of

Page 20: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

20

your Financial Record, you will see your monthly "budget," which is the monthly

amount pledged, and upon which we budget to serve the needs of your sponsored

child. If a sponsor falls behind in funding, we will usually send a gentle

reminder by email, as we understand that it is easy for the sponsor to lose track,

and yet it is also important for us to be able to serve the child's needs. In cases

where a sponsor is temporarily unable to send funds, we are very understanding

and simply ask to be informed so we can determine an alternate method of

serving the child's needs.

e) Why is my PayPal deposit slightly less than what I actually sent?

PayPal automatically deducts its fees from the payment amount, so that the

amount received by BOS is slightly less than the amount sent by the

sponsor/donor. The deposit amount posted on your Financial Record is the full

amount BOS has received from PayPal (BOS does NOT deduct any fees or

"admin" expenses from child sponsor funds!).

f) Why is my monthly budget sometimes exceeded, and sometimes

under-spent?

Your monthly budget is the average of what is necessary to provide for your

sponsored child's needs. Your monthly budget will often be under-spent to save

for months when there are greater needs, during which months your budget will

be over-spent (for example, at the beginning of the school year when supplies,

books, and uniforms might be needed all at once). Even when funds are under-

spent, we still depend on the sponsor's monthly budgeted amount to be able to

budget for the child's needs over the long-term. Over the course of a year,

average monthly expenditure should be very near your monthly budgeted

amount.

g) Are my contributions tax-deductible?

BACUS is a non-profit organization. As such, contributions made by Malaysian

residents are non tax-deductible. For non-Malaysian residents, the tax

deduction depends on the laws of each particular country, though many

European and other countries indeed provide a tax deduction for Malaysia -

registered charities. Receipts are mailed by BOS after the end of each calendar-

year to every BOS sponsor worldwide, to be filed with your tax returns, if

necessary.

h) Will I receive a receipt for my contributions?

After the end of each calendar year, receipts for the entire year's contributions

are sent to every BOS sponsor worldwide. These may be filed with your tax

returns, if necessary, or kept for your records.

3. Correspondence

a) Are children obligated to write?

As our focus is on the child's happiness and welfare, it is not obligatory for them

to correspond, though we strongly encourage them to do so and give them every

means! In most cases, our children are pleased to communicate, and this in fact

can have the greatest impact on their sense of individuality, which is the core of

our mission.

b) How often may I write to my child?

Quite simply, both sponsor and child are encouraged to write to each other as

frequently as they wish. Every sponsor-child relationship is unique, as both

sponsors and children have varying interests and needs for communication. As a

guideline, sponsors may let the child dictate the frequency of correspondence,

readily replying to the child's letters as an encouragement to the child to write

more. The sponsor can also encourage the child to write by asking questions

that serve as material for the child to reply to (as children often just don't "know"

what to write).

c) How long should my letters be?

As with the frequency of correspondence (see previous question), the best gauge

for this is the child's own letters. The child who is sharing a lot is inviting the

same, and sponsors are encouraged to respond accordingly! But common sense

prevails here as well. Accurate translation of letters is a tedious, time-

consuming process, and while our liaisons are very committed to this task,

prudence on the part of the sponsor is much appreciated, and can make their

task much easier!

d) Are letters "edited" in translation?

Sponsor letters are translated as accurately and completely as possible. Content

is only edited if the liaison is certain that the child will not grasp what is

written, in which case it is simplified to what the child can

comprehend. Inappropriate content is not permitted, of course (nor political or

religious opinions). Finally, any content that may be accidentally sensitive to

the child's personal experience or history may be edited. Again, most letters are

translated in full, and the sponsor is informed in cases where substantial editing

is required. Related item: BOS and Child Protection

e) Why has correspondence from my child become less frequent?

It is quite common that there is a rush of correspondence in the early stages of

the sponsor-child relationship, which wanes somewhat as novelty subsides. This

is NOT a decline in interest from the child! Simply, they have already shared

Page 22: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

22

their favourite colours and favourite foods, and their remaining daily lives in

their modest environments are not full of adventure. It is frankly a maturing of

the relationship, and it's now time to try to dive into their thoughts a bit and to

ask questions which give them material to respond to. They often have a strong

interest to communicate, but as with most children, they don't know exactly

what to communicate. If you've written but haven't heard back from your child

in a while, don't hesitate to write again to "check" on them!

f) Can I send postal mail and gifts to my child?

Sponsors are free to send postal mail for their child, and addressing, customs,

and other information is accessible from the sponsor's personal page on the

BACUS web site. We strongly recommend mailing photos! -as the children are

always greatly interested in seeing into your faces, families, and lives, and

photos are cheap to send and low-risk to lose if they are lost in the

mail. Sponsors are free to send gifts, though for numerous reasons this is not

generally recommended. Mail to these remote, developing locations often does

not arrive, and parcels are often held by customs and can only then be retrieved

by a costly, complicated, time-consuming procedure that we do not expect our

liaisons to pursue. Alternatively, material items and gifts can usually be

obtained by the liaison on-site at lower cost and without the cost of mailing, and

the child usually assumes the item was sent by their sponsor. Finally, regarding

gifts, our kids are wonderfully un-spoiled and un-materialistic! They need

thoughts, and these are absolutely and truly as effective, if not more so, sent in a

card or with some photos than in any material form! Expensive gifts and

frequent gifts quickly destroys this virtue, and presents the problems of envy

and equality amongst the kids.

4. Others

a) Can I visit my sponsored child?

Certainly! It's an incredible experience for both the child

and the long-distance sponsor to be able to meet each other

at last. We are happy to assist a visiting sponsor as best

as we can and will even advise on local arrangements,

accommodation, and transportation. It is necessary for the

BOS liaison or staff to be present during sponsor visits

with the child (see BOS and Child Protection above) and

visits are arranged around the schedule of the liaison and

the child's home. However, it is our priority to maximize

the time the sponsor is able to spend visiting their child.

Page 23: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

23

b) Is it possible that my child may leave the program?

BOS focuses on children who are most likely to be with us long-term. However,

we can never be certain in every case, and it does occasionally occur that a child

leaves our program prematurely, due to family changes, migration, or other

unpredictable circumstances. In such cases, we hope that the sponsor will

consider sponsoring another child who is waiting.

c) What if I am unable to continue my sponsorship?

While sponsorship is ideally a long-term relationship, we do understand that

things can change unexpectedly. We never want a sponsor in changed

circumstances to feel burdened. If for any reason you cannot continue your

sponsorship, please simply let us know so we can find other means to

accommodate the child's needs. In cases of financial difficulty, if you have

established a good communicative relationship with your child, we are happy to

continue maintaining this for you! -while assigning a second sponsor to serve the

child's physical needs. Please do not be afraid to let us know in any case, so that

we can accommodate both yours and the child's needs.

d) How does BOS Program work?

BOS works with local orphanages, communities and single mothers to provide

for the needs of orphans in Malaysia. At each of the sites we partner with for

direct oversight of the child’s care, to ensure that the needs are met.

Our main program is RM 25,000 for 3 years education program. The full

progrm details for RM 25,000 is in 5.0 Course Details. Sponsors can also choose

to partner with us in 3 other distinct ways:

Nourish every day by providing for everyday practical needs of orphaned

children RM 80/month

Restore every child by connecting with a child personally and help meet

spiritual, physical, educational, emotional and social needs.

RM 300/month

Transform every home by investing in transformational change for a

child’s orphanage or community to make a lasting impact.

RM 800/month

Page 24: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

24

e) What can I expect as a RM 80/month Nourish Sponsor?

As a RM 80/month Nourish sponsor, you are partnering with us to provide the

everyday essential needs of the children we serve. This may include a balanced

diet, housing costs, and educational expenses. As a Nourish sponsor, you will

receive 2 updates a year from one of the homes from the site you sponsor.

f) What can I expect as a RM 300/month Restore Sponsor?

As a RM 300/month Restore sponsor, your donation is used to meet the spiritual,

physical, educational, emotional, and social needs of the child that you are

connected with you. You will have the opportunity to connect with your child

through letters 2-4/year and will receive 2 updates a year from the home where

your child lives.

g) What can I expect as a RM 800/month Transform Sponsor?

As a RM 800/month Transform sponsor, your donation allows us to make a

lasting impact on the home you sponsor by providing better pay for workers,

making improvements to the home, and hiring additional support staff. You will

receive 2 updates a year from the home you sponsor, and have the opportunity to

connect with one child through letters 2-4/year should you choose.

h) I am connected with a specific child. How often can I write to

him?

You are welcome to write to your child as often as you like. Four times a year we

will translate any letters you have written and hand deliver them to your child.

Your child will then write you a letter back, which we will translate and pass on

to you. You will receive between 2 and 4 letters a year from your sponsored child,

based on how often you write. The children love seeing who is writing to them, so

feel free to include a photograph of yourself and your family.

i) I am connected with a specific child. Can I visit them?

Yes! BOS makes it easy to meet and visit your sponsored child by joining us on a

mission trip. Many child sponsors have had the opportunity to build a deeper

relationship with their child by meeting them and seeing where they live.

I am connected with a specific child.

j) Can I send them a gift?

Yes! Due to the high cost of mailing gifts to sponsored children, we offer sponsors

the opportunity to give a donation above and beyond their normal giving amount

to be used for a gift, a special outing, or a birthday party for their child. By

giving generally, sponsors allow us to celebrate each child in a unique way. To

give a gift to your child, simply mail in a cheque or make a donation on the

website for the gift amount. Be sure to write your child’s ID# and write “gift” in

the fund memo line. It may take up to eight weeks for your gift to be given to

Page 25: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

25

your sponsor the child, due to the amount of time it takes to send money to the

staff where your child is located.

k) How is BOS Program different from other child sponsorship

programs?

BOS is unique in that we are seriously committed to serving each child seriously.

Our sponsorship program provides twenty-four education care for the children

who are under our program. By considering the child as an individual, we are

able to go beyond just physical needs to meet the spiritual, educational,

emotional, and social needs of the child. Another distinction of our Child

Sponsorship Program is the constant monitoring of the orphanages and

communities by BOS staff. Because of BOS’s tireless commitment to

transparency, and devotion to learning more about how to best care for each

child, sponsors know that their sacrifice is truly making a difference in every

aspect of their sponsored child’s life.

l) How much of my donation is given to the child?

No money is given directly to the children sponsored in our program. BOS

partners with the caregivers of the child to determine the individual child’s

educational needs, and your donation goes to meet the need. The money you

donate each month will be combined with those of other sponsors whose children

live in the same orphanage or community to benefit all the children who live

there. BOS ensures that 91% of all donations go directly to meeting those needs,

and 9% is used for operational expenses.

m) Why does it cost more to sponsor a child through BOS as opposed

to other child sponsorship programs?

BOS primarily serves orphans who live in orphanages. As a result, we provide

twenty-four hour holistic care for the children we serve. BOS strives to meet all

of our children’s needs by focusing on our child development model, which

addresses the spiritual, physical, educational, emotional, and social needs of

children. This commitment to go deep, by developing the whole child, requires

more of a financial commitment than other child sponsorship programs.

n) How does BOS choose where to offer child sponsorship?

BOS is unique in that our primary focus is serving orphans. According to BOS,

orphans are defined as children without one or both parents, a definition which

also encompasses children who have been abandoned. Over the years, we have

evolved to also work with single mothers who are trying to keep their family

intact. We believe this is a proactive attempt to prevent children from being left

in orphanages. BOS staff develops a relationship with the directors of the

orphanages, communities, single mothers and we partner with them before

Page 26: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

26

starting our sponsorship program. This ensures that BOS and the people we

partner with have the same goals in mind for the children we serve.

o) What happens to children without sponsors in a home?

All the children in the orphanages are served by BOS. No child is denied any of

their basic education needs based on whether or not they have a sponsor. BOS

provides for unsponsored children through our general donations fund.

If I am connected with a specific child, will I be the only person sponsoring them?

The cost of meeting one child’s needs for an entire month is actually more than

RM 300. With this in mind, we allow each child to have up to two sponsors.

p) Can I communicate with my sponsored child through social

media?

If you choose to connect with your sponsored child via social media, we request

that you use it as a vehicle to encourage and edify your child. Please remember

we are serving children who may be working through the issues that arise from

experiencing abandonment, neglect and abuse, in addition to the typical

struggles that all teenagers face. We do not assume that they will cease to

wrestle through these issues simply because they are in our Child Sponsorship

Program. In light of this, we encourage the children to communicate in a way

that is respectful and appropriate. We hope that as their sponsors you will assist

us in that by letting us know if you ever have questions or concerns about the

content of an email or post from your child.

8.0 ABOUT BACUS

ALL ABOUT BACUS

BACUS, is the brainchild of Dr. Hariharan Subramaniam, Founder President of

Malaysian Bharath Arts and Cultural Society, Malaysia, Director and task

leader of Sangeetha Swara Laya which has 10 State-of-The-Art Music

Academies in Malaysia. He is also the Founder President of SSL FXGURU

TRADING, a financial consultant company established to empower people with

the right financial knowledge.

Dr.Hari’s reason behind beginning BACUS is to add to the richness and cultural

diversity of the region by fostering the rich cultural heritage of our Indian

community. We work with different charity organizations to support community

services; we operate Dance and Music Academies in Malaysia to coach Indian

traditions and values to our next generation of youth and children. Which such

humble ideas, it has rapidly grown to be the organization you see today.

With that the journey began. With the strong foundation laid with 10 strong

Music and Dance centres around Malaysia, the Sangeetha Swara Laya,

Malaysia, has created other academic links with Alagappa University,

Karaikudi, India, Alagappa Performing Arts Academy, USA and Kalaikottam,

Malaysia. This journey has not only been a long one but a very strong one. We

have been together as pioneers in introducing the genre of structured

Certification of Indian Music and Dance in Malaysia and are embarking on new

projects for our community.

BACUS is managed by a group of professionals who are passionately spending

their time to revive the slowly vanishing arts and culture of Malaysian Indians

in Malaysia the 64 art forms to be precise. It aims to encourage people

everywhere to enjoy and learn about Indian Music and the Arts, through

organizing and supporting seminars, summer schools, webinars, world music

courses, workshops and performances around the world. It has been created to

ultimately help Restore, Preserve, And Develop the Indian Arts and Culture in

Malaysia.

As we were underway for the 3rd Convocation, BACUS took another leap and

was successful in inviting and collaborating with Strategic Partners Malaysia

Hindu Sangam, Ministry of Tourism And Culture of Malaysia and Akademi Seni

Budaya & Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA) to eventually also work on the cross

cultural exchange programs locally and internationally.

Page 30: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

30

All Malaysian operations and financial assistance are managed through the

BACUS Society, set up according to the Malaysian Society regulations

concerning charities operating in the country.

Our primary Mission, Vision and Goal is to create 1 Music or Dance graduate in

every Indian family in Malaysia. In doing so, we are not only promoting music

and dance but also cultivating the Malaysian Indian youths appreciation and

participation in creating and developing a well cultured knowledgeable

Malaysian Indian Society.

JOURNEY AFTER THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH

NOV 2014

BACUS was registered on 5th April 2014. From that day on, projects have been

created and are running. Many more projects have been planned and are

underway under the BACUS banner in collaboration with Sangeetha Swara

Laya, Malaysia, Dr.Hari has created other academic links with Alagappa

University, Karaikudi, India, Alagappa Performing Arts Academy, USA and

Kalaikottam, Malaysia with collaborating Strategic Partners in Malaysia-The

Hindu Sangam, The Ministry of Tourism And Culture of Malaysia and The

Akademi Seni Budaya & Warisan Kebangsaan. Following are the on-going

programs.

1. BACUS SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships for Upcoming Artists in Malaysia

BACUS is raising funds to support music education scholarships for

exceptionally talented young musicians. For many worthy students, the cost of

professional classical music training is otherwise prohibitive. With your support,

we can solve the very real financial hurdles they face. These hurdles include the

basic expenses of tuition, musical instruments, and room and board expenses in

often-costly metropolitan cities that are also musical and cultural hubs. By

providing basic support to help these students pursue their goals of becoming

professionals, we seek to encourage and motivate upcoming generations of

musicians, thereby preserving the art and moving Indian classical music

forward.

To enable this, the scholarship is currently allocated in 5 phases. The planned

phases are as follow:-

Page 31: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

31

PHASE 1

To Sponsor 25% Of Music Examination Course Fees

PHASE 2

To Sponsor 50% Of Music Examination Course Fees

Scholarships for Tertiary Education in Malaysia

Upon successful completion of Phases 1 and 2, BACUS intends to also sponsor

our members’ tertiary education in Medical, Engineering and other respective

fields that they are qualified for.

PHASE 3

To Sponsor 25% Of Tertiary Education Fees

PHASE 4

To Sponsor 50% Of Tertiary Education Fees

PHASE 5

To Sponsor 100% Of Tertiary Education Fees

At the moment we are proud to achieve and give 25% Scholarship for our

fellow members.

2. EARLY MUSIC EDUCATION

This Interactive Program introduces young children from the ages of 4 to 6 to the

basic elements of music and musical instruments. Listening to music, singing

and percussion exercises are an integral part of the lesson. The programme

starts at age 4 with a "toddler & parent" programme, and goes onto age 6. These

classes provide a good foundation for the learning of an instrument.

3. SINGING TREE CHOIR

The Singing Tree children's choir is BACUS initiative to help children find their

voices and discover the joy of making music in groups. Vocal exercises and part-

singing teaches them to listen and develop a sense for musical harmony. These

classes also incorporate theory and history of music.

Page 32: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

32

4. CLASSES FOR CHILDREN FROM UNDERPRIVILEGED

BACKGROUNDS (IN PLANNING)

BACUS believes that Indian classical music and dance should be accessible and

enjoyed by all. The Society plans to organize free dance, instrument and singing

classes for children from low income families and economically challenged

backgrounds.

In keeping with our credo, ‘Music for All’, the Society extends music education to

schools for under- privileged children. BACUS's teachers also would love to

conduct training programmes at NGO and schools.

5. BACUS OUTREACH PROGRAM

BACUS plans to conduct outreach programmes at Malaysia Hindu Sangam

centres local councils, private and government schools.

http://www.hindusangam.org.my/pages.php?id=630

6. BACUS MASTER CLASSES/WORKSHOPS (IN

PLANNING)

BACUS organizes Classes and Workshops with eminent musicians and artists

who have come to perform in Malaysia

a. Artist-in-Residence Program

BACUS is establishing an artist-in-residence program that will invite

accomplished musicians from India to come to Malaysia for extended periods and

financially support their travel and living expenses while they are here. These

musicians will have a chance to explore and further their art outside of their

daily context and routine. Simultaneously, local students and music enthusiasts

will benefit from access to these individuals, who will enrich the way we

experience Indian classical music here in Malaysia especially in Kedah, Penang,

Perak, Selangor and Johor. Furthermore, while the artists are in-residence,

BACUS will record music and interviews with them to document their

experiences and enhance our Indian classical music archives.

Page 33: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

33

b. Music Festivals & Music Concerts

Since its inception in 2011, BACUS has promoted many young Malaysian artists

through various concerts in Malaysia. Each year, we organize a Music Festival,

which provides a platform for immensely talented but less known artists.

c. Digital Documentation

In the olden days, our music was passed on from one generation to the next,

verbally. As a result of this a lot of music was lost in time. What exists today is

only a small portion that was documented through books by the musicologists of

yester years. At BACUS, we are trying to document, whatever has been left of

our music before it too is lost. Through our website and mobile applications, we

have documented thousands of music assets. A novel platform to display

bilingual information, complete integration with social networks and content

authoring with community support will make this website truly unique.

d. School of Music

Our schools Sangeetha Swara Laya and Kalaikottam, Johor offers lessons in two

mediums, in-person and online. With a panel of respected gurus and cutting edge

technology, the school has been extremely popular and appreciated by many. We

follow the course curriculum outlined by the prestigious Alagappa University

(India) and Alagappa Performing Arts Academy (USA).

e. Guru Dakshina

Guru Dakshina is the tradition of expressing gratitude to one’s guru, or teacher,

for imparting their art and knowledge. We are able to enjoy and appreciate

Indian classical music as we know it today because of the highly dedicated

musicians who promulgated the art over the last several decades. They have

contributed in many ways - some as avid performers who have now passed their

performance age, and others as dedicated teachers who trained many artists who

are furthering the art today. In both cases, many of these senior musicians no

longer have an active source of income or retirement support. In appreciation of

their critical efforts BACUS seeks to support these retired musicians’ basic

annual medical needs, including but not limited to medical tests, checkups, and

monthly stipends for necessary medications.

Page 34: CORPORATE BOS SPONSORSHIP

34

f. Indian Classical Music Archives

The Indian classical music recordings that are easily accessible for public

consumption today are only a small subset of the abundance of high quality

music that has been produced. BACUS is devising a library system to archive

and make rare, privately circulated, or hard-to-find recordings available to a

broad audience. These include both musical pieces and interviews with

accomplished artists. As part of this effort, we are acquiring and restoring music

that is not currently in digital form that we will ultimately share online. We are

also looking to financially support other, similar projects that are already

underway. We are especially looking to enrich these archives by finding and

creating recordings of certain classical music styles that may be at risk of “dying”

or losing visibility in front of mainstream audiences.

g. Crescendo (Under Planning)

Crescendo is an event that provides a platform for the residents of Malaysia to

compete in an Indian Classical Music competition. This event is hosted in

multiple formats, making use of online and in-person qualification rounds,

featuring different age groups and categories.

BACUS Orphan Sponsorship Program (BOS) believes that boys, girls and

youth are the key to ending the cycle of despair in developing regions. We

focus first on providing individualized comprehensive care for our children

in the present, and secondly on their education and development,

providing opportunity and means for each to become secure in their

futures, in control of their own destinies, and with the power to uplift their

community around them.

We are presently recruiting sponsors, as every child within our current

programs is presently in need for sponsors. We anticipate keep in touch

and support us!

You may also wish to complete the sponsor "Sign-Up" process, below, if

you wish to be informed when we have a child or children in need of

sponsorship.

Thank you for your interest in BACUS child sponsorship!

The idea behind child sponsorship is that, since one sponsor is matched

with one child, even the resulting custodial care feels special to the child, -

individualized, not institutionalized. This sense of individuality for the

child is a unique part of BACUS's mission. Also unique is that 100% of

the sponsor’s funds are focused on the educational needs of their

sponsored child, so the sponsor’s relationship is with the child and not

with an organization.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Looking forward for a

favorable reply from you.

Every donation makes a difference, regardless of size.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Hariharan Subramaniam
