AIRPORT CITIES 2014

DEAR INDUSTRy COllEAgUES,Kuala Lumpur will once again be at the centre of the world’s attention as we welcome you to the 2014 Airport Cities World Conference and Exhibition (ACE). I am greatly honoured that Malaysia Airports will be the host of ACE 2014 in Kuala Lumpur and to be among the major international airports and pioneers of the Aerotropolis concept that have hosted the Airport Cities conference since 2002. It would be most exciting for us as Kuala Lumpur ACE 2014 is going to be organised during Visit Malaysia Year 2014.

Malaysia Airports emphasises on taking a collaborative and holistic view to its investments as airport infrastructure is becoming an increasingly important link to global markets and a major determinant of a country’s competitiveness. Located at the heart of Asia, Malaysia as a country is strategically and financially positioned at the centre of regional networks. As such, we must ensure that the KLIA Aeropolis development plan is optimised to maximise Malaysia’s unique position as a regional leader in retail, business and tourism destination. The unprecedented congestion around most of KLIA’s neighbouring capital city has fuelled unparalleled interest and demand in KLIA Aeropolis Master Plan.

Malaysia Airports envisions KLIA Aeropolis to be a truly remarkable new airport city development with top-class tourism attractions, and believes that the success of KLIA Aeropolis will equally be the success of Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur.

This global premier event is going to see the world’s experienced and talented airport professionals, aviation industry experts, and community and business leaders come together to share ideas, to partake in stimulating discussions and to talk about accomplishments and possibilities.

This is certainly a great platform for us to explore business opportunities and to exchange insightful information about airport cities developments with all the delegates. As 2014 will be the Visit Malaysia Year, we truly look forward to welcoming you with our warm Malaysian hospitality, to ACE 2014 in Kuala Lumpur.

What are Airport Cities?

Airports today are much more than aviation infrastructures. they are multimodal, multifunctional enterprises generating considerable commercial development within and well beyond their boundaries.

All commercial functions of a modern metropolitan centre are locating on and immediately around major airport sites – transforming them from “city airports” to “airport cities”.

Why is ACE a key event for

the aviation industry?

ACE is about airports developing both as cities in their own right and as unique business and tourist destinations.

there are countless opportunities for growth around airport cities – ACE focuses on maximising both business and leisure development potential in and around airports.

Benefits of attending

learn from industry leaders, who will share experience, expertise, and insights on airport city development.

Gain knowledge, understanding and the tools necessary for stimulating growth and generating commercial development at their own airport.

Participate in a comprehensive conference programme and network with key stakeholders in the creation and development of airport cities to explore business opportunities.

The Networking Evening is the highlight of the conference’s social events and a great way to interact with fellow delegates, speakers, sponsors and exhibitors in a relaxed atmosphere.

this year’s Networking Evening will be held at the majestic Hotel, the only hotel in kuala lumpur to be included in the leading Hotels of

the World luxury hotel collection and also a national heritage site. this colonial structure was built in 1932 and became one of the great hotels of kuala lumpur in its time. An icon of malaysia’s boom years leading to World War II, the hotel came to be the place for glamorous social events, government receptions and the residence for prominent international visitors.

WEDNESDAY, 2 APRIl 2014 FAREWEll RECEPTIONJoin fellow delegates in congratulating Malaysia Airports on hosting Airport Cities 2014.

tOuRS:AIRPORT CITy TOUR Delegates will be picked up from designated hotels in kuala lumpur/Sepang and taken for a site tour of klia2, kuala lumpur International Airport’s newest terminal and the world’s largest purpose-built terminal for low-cost carriers. Once opened, it will replace the low Cost Carrier terminal (lCCt) currently in operation. On-site, delegates will be able to experience the integrated and modern infrastructure of the terminal, including the “Skybridge” – the first of its kind in Asia and only the third in world. the Skybridge is purposely built to cross over the taxiway. Subsequently, delegates will be taken on a sightseeing tour to the garden city of Putrajaya. located in the heart of the lavish multimedia Super Corridor (mSC), it is the malaysian government’s impressive new administrative seat and stretches over more than 11,000 acres. At the end of the tour, delegates will be dropped off at designated hotels in kuala lumpur.

F1 TRACk ExPERIENCEthe state-of-the-art racing circuit, Sepang International Racing Circuit was officially opened on march 9, 1999 by former Prime minister tun Dr. mahathir mohamad. It was completed in a record

14 months and with the recognition of its ultramodern facilities, it was given the honour to incorporate the F1 logo in its name. Situated 85km from the kuala lumpur city centre, it is accessible via modern North-South Expressway, Railway links and a network of Highways. Being closely situated to the kl International Airport (klIA) makes it an ideal place for world-class international events. With a length of 5.543 km, the track features 15 turns and 8 straights with access speeds of more than 300km/h. the track allows ample opportunities for overtaking, to ensure a race full of suspense and thrill.

MElAkA TOURmelaka or malacca is listed as a uNESCO World Heritage Site and known as the “Historical City.” It is located in the southern region of the malay Peninsula, next to the Straits of malacca and

only 2-hours’ drive away from kl International (klIA). they city developed over 500 years of trading and cultural exchanges between East and West in the Straits of malacca. the influences of Asia and Europe have endowed the town with a specific multicultural heritage that is both tangible and intangible. With its government buildings, churches, squares and fortifications, melaka demonstrates the early stages of this history originating in the 15th-century malay sultanate and the Portuguese and Dutch periods beginning in the early 16th century. many of the remnants of melaka’s glorious past lie within the town Square and waterfront area near the river. Just above the town Square is St. Paul’s Hill (Bukit St. Paul), which is the site of the original Portuguese fort of A’Famosa and St. Paul’s Church. there is a sign-posted heritage trail which visitors can follow to visit all the historical places in the old part of town.
