This sophisticated building houses world class multi-purpose spaces catering to thousands of visitors and business groups.

SITE CONTEXTDesign Studio VIIReview 1 THE Kuala Lumpur city centre precinct is made using structural expressionism style of architecture, blending in with the surrounding buildings.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Conceptthe Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre stands testimony of the citys high style architecture and its imagery of global business centre with the combination of clean modern trunk with a subtle design that expresses the culture and traditions ofMalaysia.

It was conceptualised to be a City Within a City to house the galore of requirements that comes about with such a vision.

The form takes an all embracing form to take advantage of the views of the KLCC Park and Petronas.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Structural geometryHyparwave

With the Geometrica system, you can extend structures and capture space in many ways, including double curvature in opposite directions.

3D Lattice

For surfaces with zero or only one direction of curvature, a deeper Geometrica 3-D lattice provides strength and rigidity, distributing loads evenly and efficiently with much less weight than a conventional two-dimensional frame. Shapes include flat and single curvature.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Standing seam profilesIt offers thermal and acoustic insulation, and light weight with superior durability whilst retaining a harmonious combination of shapes, color and surfaces combining with other building materials to create astounding and inspiring buildings. With its variety of width, tapering and curving capabilities, the standing seam known for its versatility to adapt to buildings of any geometry or shape

Design Studio VIIReview 1 CROSS BRACING

It is asystem utilized to reinforcestructures in which diagonal supports intersect. Usually seen with two diagonal supports placed in an X shaped manner; these support compression andtension forces. Depending on the forces, onebrace may be in tension while the other is slack. Here aluminium cross bracing is being used.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Parking

The upper concourse level houses 138 cars and the lower concourse houses 588 cars.

Service lifts, passenger lifts and escalators continue to the basement levels.

On ground parking for 650 cars.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Ground Floor

The Ground Floor houses Four main Exhibition halls, one central hall and supporting amenities space.

The central hall acts as a linking and distribution space of the two lateral wings.

The exhibition halls on the ground floor accounts to 9710 square metres of column free space.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Exhibition halls

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Exhibition halls

Mobile rigging grids with clear ceiling height of 9.3m which can be lowered to improve ambience for major banqueting functions

Ideal for gatherings for up to 3,500 people

Complete utility service every 9m: water, power and communications via floor pits and trenches

Full catering facilities for each hall, exhibitor storage rooms, hospitality lounges and organisers' offices

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Semi-permanent hall

Additional space of 2600 square metres as semi-permanent marquee. (a marquee is a large tent for social or commercial functions)

facilitates industrial exhibitions that require large flexible spaces but are conducted over a short span.

Temporary space structure of aluminium members and tensile membrane.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 First Floor

The main conference room and banquet are on this level that is mainly accessed by the core of elevators and escalators.

the Plenary Hall balcony is accessed from the ground floor via elevator core from the Jalan Pinang Main Entrance.

Organisers suites for each hall are located on Level 1. Each hall has an adjoining Hospitality Lounge located.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Operable wall systems

A system composed of large panels which are hung from a ceiling track or a floor track, permitting the panels to be moved easily from their closed position (in which the panels form a partition) to an open position (in which the panels are stacked against each other)

Thus, spaces can be configured in accordance with changing demands and prevailing functional requirements, giving more flexibility in every-day usage.

Design Studio VIIReview 1 Landscaping

KLCC boasts of a large landscaped area.

Being an all glass faade giving views of the landmarks, landscaping was integral for the site.

the hot climate is complemented by the water as a design element.

Local varieties such as palm are used for shading and flowers used for beautification.

Materials Materials used to stand values:

VISIONARY TIMELESS fundamentally right.

The distinctive design of the building bird requires specific requirements for housing, especially in terms : ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE, EASE OF MAINTENANCE, DURABILITY, LOND LASTING.

ChallengesThe challenges presented by the centre areThe operable wall panels being huge requires immense labour and damage the carpets

Carpets used for flooring are prone to accumulation of dust and are difficult to clean when spilled with food in the food courts.

The plenary hall with executive suites and service rooms open up to the same lobby making the VVIP personels to get glance of the service areas.

The control rooms for the banquet halls, ballrooms are located on the upper floors, instead of being adjoining causing access problems in peak times.Design Studio VIIReview 1
