AboutPHCPHC is a private, non-profit Federally Qualified HealthCenter thatprovidesprimarymedicalcareand integratedhealth services to some 120,000 people in the widerPetaluma area. PHC has also won numerous grants thatsupporttheirdemonstratedcapacityforinnovaAon.

TheirchallengeIt is widely recognized that innovaAon in healthcare isbadly needed, especially given the degree and rate ofchangefacingthemajorplayers..PHCwantedtopilotnewhealth tech soluAons, but had no previous experience.They also wanted to improve their Strategic Plan and toimplementaProjectManagementsystem.

SociaLab’ssoluFonSociaLabworkedwithPHCtohelpcreateandimplementtheir“InnovaFonHub”.This project aimed to improve paAent outcomes through healthcarepracAceandtechnologyinnovaAons.AKerpuLnginplaceanenterprise–wide Project Management System, SociaLab trained senior and mid-levelmanagersinprojectmanagementprinciples,andtheuseofacloudbasedsystem.As a result of SociaLab'swork, projectmanagement is nowpro-acAve,staff is managing to milestones, and there is now an agency-widepor+olioviewofthestatusofallprojects.

AboutNESsTNESsT provides long-term support to grow and sustainsocialenterprisesaroundtheworld.Theynotonlyprovidefinancial support, but also business training to increaseentrepreneurialandmanagementskills.Thesocialenterprisemodelgenerates revenuethathelpsnonprofitsbecomefinanciallyindependent.

SociaLab’ssoluFonSociaLabworkedwithNESsTtodevelopan investment fund,alongwithafundmanualthatoutlinestermsandcriteriaforinvestment.Thefundwillsupportsocialenterprisesthatarereadytolaunch,andwillfollowafullduediligenceprocess.

TheirchallengeAn earthquake of magnitude 7.0 struck HaiA in 2010.Around threemillion people were affected by the quake(almostathirdofthepopulaAon),withanesAmateddeathtollof160,000.

AboutZeroDivideZero Divide is an organizaAon that helps underservedcommuniAes realize the transformaAve power oftechnology to improve economic opportuniAes, civicengagement and healthy outcomes. Over the past 15years,theyhaveprovidedsome$50million intechnologyservicesupporttononprofitorganizaAons

SociaLab’ssoluFonZeroDividecontractedSociaLabto jointlyworkwithACCI toidenFfyandpilotatechnologysoluFon.This would allow providers to respond efficiently and effecAvely topaAentneedsinthe“rapid,highdemand”environmentofclinicwaiAngrooms.The technology soluAon is now being piloted, and the successfulimplementaAon model will be offered to the many other interestedhealthclinicsforscalingout.

TheirchallengeTheAsianAmericansforCommunityInvolvement(ACCI)isSantaClaraCounty'slargestcommunitybasedorganizaAonthat focuses on the health of Asian Americans in thecommunity. ACCI serves over 12,000 people every year,predominantlylow-incomeAsianimmigrantsandrefugees.They needed a soluAon that would allow their healthworkerstoseamlesslycommunicatewithpaAentsandwitheachother.

AboutSAMSustainable Asset Management is a Swiss-based assetmanagementfirmfocusedonsustainabilityinvesAng;SAMoperatesintheUS,Europe,andAsia.

SociaLab’ssoluFonSociaLab worked as SAM’s implementaFon partner in Italy,and benchmarked best pracFces on environmentalsustainabilityforeachsector,country,andregion.These findings were then presented to European companies, whichprovidedthemwithexamplestodevelopsustainableiniAaAves.Working with SAM, SociaLab advanced sustainability pracAces for thelargestcompaniesinItaly--includingprovidinganongoing“roundtable”toengagestakeholders(includingleadingcompanies,unions,nonprofits,and universiAes) – and helped companies improve their social impactandgenerateastrongerbrandvalue.

TheirchallengeEuropeaninvestmentsinsustainableiniAaAvesaccountforalmost 65%of the total global investments. SAMwantedto help drive adopAon of best pracAce in corporateenvironmental sustainability in Italy, and to develop aviablecorporateconsulAngpracAce.

SociaLab’ssoluFonSociaLab developed a business strategy for UBS ImpactInvesFngGrouptoadvanceitspracFceinSanFrancisco.Byprovidingsupport,makingkeyintroducAonstoprominentindividualsand organizaAons in the impact invesAng, SociaLab helped UBS buildmore producAve business relaAonships in order to scale the impactinvesAngpracAce.

TheirchallengeCurrentprojecAonsindicatethatimpactinvesAngwillgrowfromthecurrent$50billioninassetsto$500billionwithinthenextdecade.UBSImpact InvesAngGroupwas lookingto leverage this opportunity gaining visibility and newclients.

AboutUNDPFor countries that face civil war, natural disasters, andepidemics,theUNOfficeofHumanitarianAffairssupportsthe mobilizaAon, funding, and coordinaAon ofhumanitarianacAoninresponsetothesecrises.

SociaLab’ssoluFonWorking closely with UNDHA leadership, SociaLab traveled to the UNofficesinIndonesia,Moldova,andNicaraguatoreviewdocuments,andassesseddisasterresponseprotocols.

Mostimportantly,SociaLabworkedwiththelocalofficialsandaid workers that were directly involved in the disasterresponse in order to gain their first hand account of theeffecFvenessoftheUNresponsetoeachdisaster.ThefinalrecommendaAonsprovidedbySociaLabwereacceptedbytheUN ExecuAve CommiYee, which led to changes in evaluaAon pracAceandconAnuousimprovementfortheagency.

TheirchallengeThe Office of Humanitarian Affairs needed an expert toimprove the effecAveness of future humanitarianresponses involvingboththeUNandnaAonalefforts,andhowbesttodeploytheir$50millionbudget.

These thensupport a wide variety of investments in areas such aseducaAon, health, public administraAon, infrastructure,financialandprivatesectordevelopment,agriculture,andenvironmentalandnaturalresourcemanagement.

SociaLab’ssoluFonSociaLabworkedwiththeWorldBankinNigeriaandGuyanatostrengthenNaFonalHIVcontrolprogramsandotherhealthrelated iniFaFves – working with naFonal counterparts inchargeofthenaFonalprograms–andtoprovidelocalaccessto finance for such projects at the Regional level for eachcountry.The work enabled local and state agencies to beYer access financialresources from the World Bank, and enabled the development ofregionalprojectsinhealth.

TheirchallengeInGuyana, theNaAonalAIDSControl Programneeded tobroughtup to internaAonal standardsof best pracAce. InNigeria,amechanismwasneededtochannelfundstotheoutlyingregions.
