Dear blessed Muslims,

Let us have the taqwa of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala by performing all of His Commands and avoiding all of His prohibitions. With utmost taqwa, may we attain forgiveness and the pleasure of Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala in this world and the Hereafter.

The Friday khutbah this time is titled “THE MONARCH LOVED, THE CITIZEN

PROSPERS.”

Blessed Muslims,

We are truly grateful to Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala for the nation’s solid administrative structure that is founded upon constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, which has guaranteed a peaceful, stable, and harmonious atmosphere.

Indeed, the royal institution plays a significant role in preserving and spreading Islam. Past history has shown that when the King (or Sultan) embraces Islam, the masses would also follow suit in droves that they would all live in peacefulness and prosperity. Moreover, by practicing the teachings of Islam, the solid relationship between the Ruler and the citizens became further strengthened, for Islam ordains the Muslim leader to remain just, and it also command the Muslim ummah to obey Allah, His Messenger, and its leader. This is as Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala mentions in verse 59 of soorah an-Nisaa’:

1 an-Nahl 16:90.

“O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.”

While in a hadeeth, ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar radiyAllaahu ‘anhuma narrated that the

“A Muslim has to listen to and obey (the order of his ruler) whether he likes it or not, as long as his orders involve not one in disobedience (to Allah), but if an act of disobedience (to Allah) is imposed one should not listen to it or obey it.”

(al-Bukhaari) Dear beloved audience,

On the 11th of December, 2019 that corresponds to 14th Rabee‘ al-Aakhir 1441H, we will be commemorating the 74th anniversary of His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor’s birthday. Let us altogether supplicate so that His Majesty will always be bestowed with hidaayah (guidance) and inaayah (aid) from Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala in continuing his reign with taqwa and justice in this peaceful and advanced state.

We also pray that His Royal Highness the Sultan will always remain istiqaamah

(steadfast) in the current affairs, particularly in enhancing the shi‘aar (symbols) of Islam within this state. For example, empowering the masjid institution, Islamic education, zakaat and waqf (endowment) institution, as well as the socio-economic development of the ummah.

In addition, we must always support all of the efforts by His Majesty in curbing any

form of deviant teachings such Shee‘ah, Hizb at-Tahreer, Millah Abraham, and many others. In facing these challenges, the Muslims within this state must cling firmly upon authentic teachings and practice of Ahl as-Sunnah wal-Jamaa‘ah. Blessed audience,

Indeed, His Majesty is pleased with the effort in making the state of Selangor as the

benchmark for the emergence of this region as the leader of the civilization of the Islamic

world. This coincides with the progress of a nation, which very much depends on sound governance and the implementation of the principles of openness, integrity, and responsibility. That wealth and revenue attained will not be abused or usurped through the culture of corruption, but instead returned to benefit the masses through various developmental programs. The nation’s treasures that were bestowed by Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala will truly deplete if the leaders are drowned in corruption, power abuse, and greed.

His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor invites fellow citizens to derive lessons from previous history, where the superpowers were destroyed and crumbled due to the culture of corruption, widespread slandering, and lavish lifestyle. This is in line with what Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala mentions in verses 16 and 17 of soorah al-Israa’:

“And when We intend to destroy a city, We command its affluent but they defiantly disobey therein; so the word comes into effect upon it, and We destroy it with [complete] destruction. And how many have We destroyed from the generations after Noah. And sufficient is your Lord, concerning the sins of His servants, as Acquainted and Seeing.”

Dear beloved Muslims,

Islam is a religion that truly emphasize on harmony in societal living. Hence, the

Muslims should put aside the evil habit of insulting, reviling, and slandering others, as well as hasad (envy), so as to ensure that strong Islamic brotherhood is built.

As the Ruler and the Head of Islamic Affairs in this state, His Majesty firmly asserts that safeguarding the sanctity of Islam and the great honor of our beloved Prophet

Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص is a major requirement in maqaasid ash-sharee‘ah (the higher objectives

of Islamic legislation) and that it is the very duty of the Muslim ummah to always preserve it.

We are truly grateful to Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala for the ni‘mah (favor) and bounty of peace and security within this state by expressing and upholding our utmost gratitude to His Royal Highness the Sultan for the role that His Majesty has played in spreading and preserving the sanctity of Islam.

We also uphold our gratitude to His Highness for his concerns with regard to various issues and the interests of the people irrespective of color and creed. The responsibilities shouldered by His Majesty are very daunting. Therefore, as citizens, we must fully comprehend and give undivided loyal to His Majesty.

Blessed audience,

To end the khutbah today, let us reflect and derive guidelines from the following matters:

1. The Muslim ummah must have certainty that obedience to Allah, His

Messenger, and the Muslim leader is an Islamic requirement. 2. The Muslim ummah must avoid matters that can sever the relationship

between the Ruler and the people. 3. The Muslim ummah must always strengthen its imaan (belief) and taqwa of

Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala in attaining barakah (blessings) and rahmah (mercy) from Allah Subhaanahu Wa Ta‘aala.

“And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they denied [the messengers], so We seized them for what they were earning.”

(al-A‘raaf 7:96)

O Allah, You are the Lord that is All Mighty, we are grateful to You for having

bestowed rahmah and barakah upon this state, which continues to remain advanced and prosperous, with its residents united under the auspices and leadership of our Ruler as the Head of Islamic affairs in this state.

Hence, we sincerely beseech You, O Allah, strengthen our imaan and creed

according to that of Ahl as-Sunnah wal-Jamaa‘ah, and protect us from teachings that are outside the fold of Islam such as Ahmadiyyah or Qadiyaani and teachings declared as astray such as Shee‘ah and Millah Abraham. O Allah, Ya Rahmaan, Ya Raheem, unite our hearts, bestow upon us rizq with blessings, enrich us with beneficial knowledge, protect us from calamities. O Allah, bestow upon us guidance in performing the five daily prayers in congregation, fulfilling zakaat through Lembaga Zakat Selangor (Selangor Zakaat Board), making waqf and infaaq of our wealth to Perbadanan Wakaf Negeri Selangor (Selangor Waqf Corporation) and Tabung Amanah Pembangunan Islam Selangor (Islamic Development Trust Fund of Selangor).
