  • The establishment of Centres of Excellence at Public Institutions of Higher Learning must in accordance with the statutes of the Colleges and Universities Act 1976.

    The objectives of IHL are to conduct teaching, provide services and conduct research in strategic disciplines in the various key areas of knowledge (niche areas).

    Centres of Excellence represent vehicles for researchers and post graduate students to undertake multi-disciplinary research, that are internationally recognised, meeting global standards and in areas of national importance.

  • 1. Initiate, lead and sustain research within the university, between universities, with industries and other players at standards consistent with best practices

    2. Connect to the national innovation system by fostering discovery, creativity and new talents

    3. Aid application of knowledge and understanding to the benefit of humankind, society and culture

    4. Develop a culture of entrepreneurship by seeking out opportunities in new and emerging fields of research (together with private sector)
