Hyponatraemia in an adolescent patient: casereport
A 13-year-old boy, who had panhypopituitarism aftersurgery for a nasofrontal encephalocele during infancy, wasreceiving long-term daily desmopressin [dosage, route andduration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. He wasadmitted with depressed consciousness and a serumsodium level of 116 mmol/L [treatments not stated]. Over48 hours, rapid overcorrection of his sodium levelsoccurred, and his neurological status worsened. Hedeveloped osmotic myelinolysis and cerebellar oedema; helater died of sudden cardiorespiratory arrest.Ranger A, et al.
