GRANT FOR UPGRADING OF SMEs CAPABILITIESOBJECTIVE:The Scheme provides financial assistance for SMEs to start-up their businesses as well as to enhance their capability in developing products, upgrading processes, acquiring certification and quality management system, improving of packaging and undertaking promotion and marketing.SECTOR COVERAGE*:Manufacturing;Manufacturing related services;Services; andProcessing of Agricultural Produce.*Except for businesses that promote immoral activities and encourage betting activities which include pubs, nightclubs, discotheques, massage parlours, gambling shop and liquor & tobacco businesses.QUALIFYING CRITERIA• Companies or enterprises incorporated under the:Companies Act 1965;Registration of Businesses Act 1956 (amended 2001); orRegistered with Professional Regulatory Bodies.• Fulfil the definition of SME:Services-Annual sales turnover of not exceeding RM5 million or full-time employees not exceeding 50.Manufacturing, Manufacturing related services and Agro-based-Annual sales turnover of not exceeding RM25 million or full-time employees not exceeding 150.• At least 60 per cent equity held by Malaysians.• Possess valid premise/business license.FORM OF ASSISTANCEAssistance is given in the form of a matching grant where 50 per cent of the approved project cost is borne by the Government and the remainder by the applicant;For enterprises in the manufacturing sectors incorporated under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956 (amended 2001), assistance is given up to 80 per cent of the approved cost. However, this flexibility applies for a period of 3 years from the date of first approval enterprises are expected to upgrade their businesses to Sdn. Bhd.ELIGIBLE EXPENSESA.
