What is the Air Conditioning System..? Air conditioning is the dehumidification of indoor air for thermal comfort. In a broader sense, the term can refer to any form of cooling and ventilation that modifies the condition of air. Air conditioning is an appliance, system, or machine designed to stabilize the air temperature and humidity within an area.

Types of Air Conditioners

There are various types of air conditioning systems. The application of a particular type of system depends upon a number of factors like how large the area is to be cooled, the total heat generated inside the enclosed area, etc. An HVAC designer would consider all the related parameters and suggest the system most suitable for your space.

Types of Air Conditioners

1.Window air conditioner- Normally used air conditioner for single rooms. - The compressor, condenser, expansion valve or coil, evaporator and cooling coil

are enclosed in a single box.

4

CGMP Consult (SA0155424-A)

2. Split air conditioner- Comprises of two parts: the outdoor unit and the indoor unit.- The outdoor unit, fitted outside the room, houses components like the compressor, condenser and expansion valve.- The indoor unit comprises the evaporator or cooling coil and the cooling fan.

5

CGMP Consult (SA0155424-A)

3. Packaged air conditioner- This type of air conditioner to cool more than two rooms or a larger space at your home or office.- There are two possible arrangements with the package unit.

- The compressor, condenser (which can be air cooled or water cooled), expansion valve and evaporator are housed in a single box. The cooled air is thrown by the high capacity blower, and it flows through the ducts laid through various rooms.

- The compressor and condenser are housed in one casing.

6

4. Central Air Conditioning system- Used for cooling big buildings, houses, offices, entire hotels, gyms, movie theaters, factories etc.- If the whole building is to be air conditioned, HVAC engineers find that putting

individual units in each of the rooms is very expensive initially as well in the long run. - Cooling big halls, malls, huge spaces, galleries etc is usually only feasible with central conditioning units.

- Chilled water pump

9

CGMP Consult (SA0155424-A)

The function of chiller, cooling tower, condenser water pump, chilled water pump is to chill the water and circulating the chilled water to the AHU & AFC through a series of piping system.

AHU & FCU serve the purpose of supplying or circulating the cooled or comfort air to the condition space trough a series of duct work.

5. Precision Air Conditioning- Unlike common commercial air conditioning systems, these precision air conditioning units are designed to run continually, require little maintenance, and provide precise control of temperature and humidity. - Standard air conditioners quickly lose efficiency and break under continual operation.- Precision Air Conditioning System (PAC) should be installed for critical areas eg.

Server Farm, Network Centre, Robotic Tape Drive Area, Command Centre and Tape Storage & Printer Centre, where they require 24 x 7 operation hours.

Mechanical Ventilation

Mechanical Ventilation helps to draw out stale and impure air from one area and bring in fresh air, thereby improving the quality of indoor air. Exhaust fans are Mechanical Ventilation device that typically ducted to the exteriors of a building, through which bad indoor air can effectively be removed.

16

CGMP Consult (SA0155424-A)

Types Of Mechanical Ventilation

Mechanical ventilation are classified into various types, mainly depending on the type of mount and the location where you need to install the fans. The different types are:

17
