7 . A student has carried out an experiment to construct an ionic equation for the formation
of lead (II) iodide. Seven test tubes of the same size were labelled 1 to 7. A fixed volume
of 5. 0 cm 3 of 1.0 mol dm·3 potassium iodide solution was placed in each test tube . 0.5 cm3
of 1.0 mol dm·3 lead (II) nitrate solution was added into test tube 1. 1.0 ct:n 3 into test tube 2
and so on until 3.5 cm 3 was added into test tube 7. The heights of the precipitate formed
in each test tube were measured.
Seorang pelajar te/ah menjalankan satu eksperimen untuk membina persamaan ion bagi
pembentukan plumbum (II) iodida. Tujuh buah tabung yang sama saiz dilabelkan
dengan 1 hingga 7. lsipadu tetap 5.0 cm3 larutan kalium iodida 1.0 mol dm·3 diletakkan
da/am setiap tabung uji 0.5 cm3 larutan plumbum (II) nitrat 1.0 mol dm·3 ditambah ke

1. Table 1 shows the observations in three test tubes used to investigate the effect of other
metals on rusting. A mixture of jelly solution, potassium hexacyanoferrate (Ill),
K3Fe(CN)e solution and phenolphthalein were used as medium in each test tube. The
observations were recorded after one week.
Jadual 1 menunjukkan pemerhatian dalam tiga buah tabung uji yang digunakan untuk
menyiasat kesan logam lain ke atas pengaratan. Medium yang digunakan di dalam
setiap tabung uji adalah campuran larutan agar-agar. Larutan kalium

5 cm3 of 1.0 mol dm-3 sulphuric acid is measured using another measuring cylinder. The sulphuric acid is poured immediately and carefully into the conical flask. At the same time, the stop watch is atarted The mixture in a conical flask is swirled. The ‘X’ mark is observed vertically from the top of the conical flask through the solution. The stopwatch is stopped once the ‘X’ mark disappears from view. Step 1 – 7 are repeated using 50 cm3 of 0.2 mol dm-3 sodium thiosulphate solution at 40oC, 50oC, 60 oC by heating the solution before 5 cm3 of sulphuric acid is added in.
