The course covers analytical techniques commonly used in biochemical works which categorized under spectroscopy, chromatography, electro- analytical and radioactivity based methods. The course also discusses on enzymes, antibodies, radioisotopes and substances which may be necessary to detect and measure biochemical compounds or which can be very useful in variety of analytical methods. The course is complemented by explanation on chemical nature, isolation-separation techniques and methods of analysis of carbohydrates, amino acids, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. (7) Hasil Pembelajaran / Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, students are expected to acquire these abilities: i) Ability to apply the basic principles and calculations of analytical and separation methods for qualitative and quantitative analysis. ii) Ability to describe and analyze the use of biological materials for analytical purposes. iii) Ability to differentiate and compare analytical methods for the separation and purification of biomolecules.

(6) Sinopsis kursus/ Course synopsis:

This course is to introduce students with basic principles and instrumentation in analytical bio-organics

methods that can be applied in biotechnology related fields. The course covers analytical techniques

commonly used in biochemical works which categorized under spectroscopy, chromatography, electro-

analytical and radioactivity based methods. The course also discusses on enzymes, antibodies,

radioisotopes and substances which may be necessary to detect and measure biochemical compounds

or which can be very useful in variety of analytical methods. The course is complemented by explanation

on chemical nature, isolation-separation techniques and methods of analysis of carbohydrates, amino

acids, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids.

Lab 8 To determine an active drug substance in a pharmaceutical formulation using ultraviolet and

visible spectrometry (UV/VIS)

Lab 9 To extract and detect a lipid I

Lab 11 To immobilize an enzyme

Lab 12 To apply column chromatography (CC) technique to separate phenolic acids
