Dear Sir/Mdm/Mr. /Mrs.

Re: SPONSORSHIP FOR ORIGINAL CHILDREN’S MUSICAL, ‘ALIEN ADVENTURE’

I am writing on behalf of the Young Choral Academy (YCA) with regards to sponsorship for our original

children’s musical, Alien Adventure, which will be held on 21st and 22nd November 2015 at the Damansara

Performing Arts Centre (DPAC).

We are extremely excited to be able to present a new original work which showcases fresh, vibrant

Malaysian talent. Alien Adventure is a completely home-grown musical written by Sylvia Wong, with music

by one of our young up-and-coming internationally-acclaimed composer/arrangers, Yeo Chow Shern. It

will be directed by Boh Cameronian award-winning director Nell Ng of Pan Productions (The Producers,

Merrily We Roll Along, Cabaret). This musical will feature the Kuala Lumpur Children’s Concert Choir, the

Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir, and its sister organization, the Subang Jaya Children’s Choir. It will be the

first original children’s musical that YCA has staged.

We believe that young talent should be nurtured and given as many opportunities to grow as possible.

We also believe strongly in supporting Malaysian arts. In keeping with this philosophy, YCA would like to

invite you to partner with us in this journey by means of corporate sponsorship.

Please feel free to contact Ms Sherlysaa Chiew at 014-624 2733 (email: [email protected]) for

further details, or for discussion of the sponsorship options that we have put together.

We very much hope that you will partner with us for this exciting new production. Your generous support

means a great deal to continuing education in the arts, to fostering greater ties between corporations and

Malaysian arts, and also to nurturing young, up-and-coming performers in the local performing arts scene.

Thank you very much, and we look forward to a favourable reply.

primary philosophy of the choir is to introduce choral singing as a healthy curriculum in a fun and relaxed

environment based onthe Kodaly Method of teaching. These young singers are nurtured and encouraged

in the hope that their abilities will be recognized, which will in turn lead to the raising of standards of

choral singing in Malaysia.

Members of the Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir have made successful tours to Australia, Austria, China,

Germany, Hong Kong, Latvia, Singapore and South Korea, and won many prizes and awards. They have

also collaborated and shared the stage with many international ensemblessuch as the All American Boys’

APPENDIX 4 MUSICAL SYNOPSIS OF ‘ALIEN ADVENTURE’ Song titles are denoted in italics Scene 1: Scene opens on board an alien ship. Six alien children - Leslie, Drew, Alex, Jamie, Jesse, and Robin – are trying to use the ship’s computer to locate a missing friend, Skye, who has gone in search of intergalactic souvenirs for Parents’ Day. They are worried because she is a kleptomaniac, and might get everyone into trouble (‘She’s a Klepto’). When they locate her on Earth in Malaysia, they ask the computer to beam them there, hoping to catch her before it’s too late. Scene 2: The group of alien children find themselves at Batu Caves during Thaipusam, in front of the gigantic statue of Lord Murugan. At the temple, the devotees are singing and getting ready for the festival (‘Glory to the Lord’). Skye isn’t there however, so the group hurries off to look elsewhere. Scene 3: The ship’s computer beams the alien children down to Malacca, right in the middle of preparations for a Peranakan wedding (‘Peranakan Wedding’). In the process of trying to look for Skye, the children get caught up in the festivities; they manage to sneak away during the party. They discover to their horror that Skye has gone to steal Taming Sari, the historical keris that is part of the Articles of State Regalia belonging to the Sultan of Perak. They immediately transport themselves to Perak, fearful of an intergalactic incident. Scene 4: Scene opens to chaos – the children have located Taming Sari, but have unwittingly set off the alarm on the display, and are now being chased by guards (‘Get It Back’). They manage to beam the keris back to its original place by making the guards believe that Taming Sari is fighting them, and escape back to their ship. Scene 5: The children are safe aboard the alien ship, but are angry at Skye for getting them into trouble (‘Some Friend’). They are shocked to discover that she was aboard the ship just a short while ago but has beamed out again after leaving them each a labu sayong, and a recorded apology on the ship’s computer. Scene 6: The children are now in Kelantan by the beach, still trying to track Skye down – only to discover she has stolen several prized competition Waus. In order to calm the angry contestants down, they help them to make new Waus to enter the competition (‘Make a Wau’). After this, they decide to rent a boat and go out to sea for some relaxation. Scene 7:

13

A terrible storm overturns the boat and washes the aliens up onto the beach. When they recover consciousness, they discover that Leslie won’t wake up. Frightened, they give him medication but nothing works. A sea creature takes pity on them and tells them that the youngest Mermaid Princess has fallen in love with Leslie and taken his soul; if the children plead with coconut palm flowers and dance the Ulek Mayang, she might release him (‘Plead with Coconut Palm Flowers’). Skye, discovering their plight, gets angry and threatens to fight the mermaids. The oldest of the Mermaid Princesses then releases Leslie from his sleep, and he wakes up. Scene 8: The children are back on the alien ship. Leslie has recovered fully after a good night’s sleep. Skye decides that she will steal a dragon since no one will miss it, and beams herself to Lake Chini in Pahang. She challenges her friends to find it before she does, declaring the last one to do so will be the loser. The children beam after her in pursuit (‘Seri Gumum’). Scene 9: All the children, minus Skye, have returned to the ship, disgruntled because they couldn’t find the dragon in Lake Chini. The computer informs them that Skye has beamed into her room just before they came back, and that there is a now a dragon in the cargo hold. After initial reactions of disbelief and laughter, Alex orders the computer to take them home, signalling the end of their adventure.
