One of my favourite teachers in SJIS was Mr Ganesan. I remember meeting him at the end of Year 11 and after talking to him, our friendship bloomed. I remember, the day before I sat for IGCSE, Mr Ganesan came up to me, gave me a pen and said that he had prayed for my friends and I to do well for our exams. I have never been so grateful to have a teacher like him. Moreover, he has an amazing voice when he sings, so that is just another reason to love him.

Besides that, I would like to thank my tennis coach, Coach Michael. With his dedication, love and respect for the sport, he trained and taught me and a couple of talented people to also share the same love, respect and enjoyment of the sport. He instilled the interest in my friends and I, and because of that, we joined the Majlis Sukan Sekolah Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (MSSWPKL) tournament. I was able to bring back a Silver medal in the 2015 U18 Men’s Doubles category. I was determined to obtain a gold medal in the next tournament, and my hard work had paid off.

In the 2016 U18 Men’s Doubles, my partner Justin Lee and I bagged the gold medal after beating our opponents 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. We made history as that was the first time SJIS obtained a gold medal in the Under 18 category.

I am currently in my second year, pursuing BSc (Hons) in Accounting and Finance in Sunway University. Prior to this, I did my Foundation in Arts in Sunway College. Once in a while, I make it a point to visit the school and catch up with the inspiring teachers.

I attended the first Alumni gathering in June and I appreciate the effort from the school to organise the gathering. It has allowed me to meet my old friends and teachers again. I look forward to attending more of the Alumni events and activities in the near future. To all my fellow Alumni, I wish you all the best; see you soon.

In my 4 years at SJIS, I have observed and witnessed its growth and development. From a small school with very few students, SJIS has now grown tremendously from where it once was. I am very proud to share the success of the school with you.

After joining SJIS and getting additional assistance from my teachers and peers, not only did my academics improve, but I also acquired other skills such as leadership, interactive, responsibility and discipline. I sought these skills from the opportunities given to me; I was elected as a prefect where I learnt the meaning of discipline and responsibility. I was also involved in many other clubs and sports such as the Interact club where I further experienced the true meaning of leadership and mastered the art of interacting with people. The teacher who inspired me the most and motivated me to live and see things the way I do, was none other than Mr. Hamed (my Business Studies teacher). I did not major in Business but to be completely honest,

Business Studies was my favourite subject because the theory was simple to grasp and Mr. Hamed made his lessons really interesting. He always gave wise words of encouragement, helped with moving on the right path and doing the right thing; he also guided his students to look at the “bigger picture”.

I graduated in 2015, with results I never thought I would be able to achieve. I started university in the same year, with a decision to pursue a career in the Hospitality Industry because I did not like the idea of being in an office doing paperwork; I wanted to move towards something of my personality. The ideal goal was to finish my degree and travel, which still is the plan by the way. I have interned at multiple Marriott hotels and am due to complete my degree by next year. I will be travelling to Maldives to complete my last training semester, where I would either intern as a supervisor in the Guest Relations Department or the F&B floor manager.

However, I do not intend for my journey to end there. Upon completing my degree in hospitality and gaining sufficient experience, my next milestone is to pursue another field of education which I am very passionate about – Occupational Therapy, also known as Special Needs education. Many people have been curious with my choice, but my answer is very simple. I want to make a difference in these children’s lives. Honestly, through all my years at SJIS, I have learnt that by striving for what you want and working hard for it, you can achieve anything that you believe in.

I truly appreciate the amount of work and effort the school has put in to give us opportunities to catch up with each other and carry out activities together. The Alumni events help us keep in touch with old friends, apart from helping us create new and lasting bonds. In other words, it is a platform to meet new faces who share similar high school experiences, and we can learn about each other’s lives post-SJIS. Wishing you guys all the very best.
