APCYS 2012 IN PALANGKA RAYA 2nd September - 7th September 2012

SELF - MOTIVATION FOR YEAR 11 26th September 2012

VIP DAY BEFORE THE EXAMINATION 1st September & 8th September 2012

A VISIT BY THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION OF THAIILAND 12th September 2012

1st September 2012 - VIP day was held for year 7,8 and 11. BCATs result was discussed and shown to parents for year 7 and 8. Parents were also also given qualifying results for year 8 stu-dents as an indicator of their performance level as well as pointers for year 8 and 11 students because they will be sitting for students progress examination (SPE) and GCE 'O' Level exami-nation respectively. Teachers also discussed the students' behaviour and attitude in the class-room and areas for improvement where parents were also advised to monitor students' revision

at home.

8th September 2012 - During the VIP day for year 9 and 10, students were given their test two results followed by parents meeting with the subject teachers concerning the students’ work and

how to improve in the upcoming end of year examination.

Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School received and welcomed a working

visit from the Ministry of Education of Thailand comprises of officers and

principals. Upon the delegates arrival a photo session was held followed

by a tour around the school area.

The delegates were then presented with school video presentation fol-

lowed by a welcoming speech and briefing by the school principal, Cikgu

Haji Metussin Bin Haji Jais. The working visit ended with the delegate

signing the guest book and presentation of souvenirs by the principal.

Every year before the Year 11 sits for their GCE ‘O’ Level Ex-

amination, the school will held a self-motivational talk. This year

the talk was held on the 26th September by the school’s admin-

istration which was led by Cikgu Hajah Aiasah Binti Haji Japar

(Deputy Principal of Academic) and Cikgu Haji Md Fadhillah

Bin Haji Ismail (Senior Master of Administration). Students

were also shown a video on the Success Stories of SM Say-

yidina Hasan.

Four students and two teachers from our school attended the

First Asia-Pacific Conference of Young Scientists (APCYS)

2012 in Palangka Raya, Kalimantan from the 2nd September

until 7th September. The conference was for students to do a

scientific research and presentation which was judged by a

panel of international judges during the conference. Our school

presented a project titles “Study on factors affecting the cultiva-

tion of Orthosiphon Stamineus (Misai Kucing) and its potential

economic significance to Brunei” and was awarded a special

award on “Medical Application” for the project. APCYS 2012 was organized by Surya Institute and Department of Education, Province Govern-

ment of Central Kalimantan where a total of 12 countries participated the conference including Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Nepal, Guam,

Malaysia, China, Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Australia.

HAJAT PRAYER FOR YEAR 8 & 11 27th September 2012

CAREER TALK FOR YEAR 10 & 11 6th November 2012

Our school held a mass Maghrib and Isyak prayers in congregation. In addition, Hajat Prayer was held for the students who will sit for the examination SPE and 'O' level for the year 2012. The event also continued with the reading of Su-rah Yassin. The event was held in the Grand Mosque Highness Ab-dul Mateen in Kampong Mulaut. Also present at the function was Sayyidina Hasan Secondary School Principal, Mr Haji Metusin Hj Jais, teachers and parents as well as students year 8 and

11.

Our school welcomed Alam Shah Science Secondary School to visit the school, having attachment in the school and visited interesting places here in Brunei Darussalam. Teachers and students of ASIS visited the OGDC, Royal Regalia and SOAS

Mosque. Students also did art work and football tournament.

The school’s Guidance and Counselling Section held

an exhibition and talks for students who were intended

to continue their studies after sitting for their GCE ‘O’

Level Examination.

Institutions that participated in the Career Day were

from PTE Katok School, Youth Development Centre,

Wasan Vocational School, Micronet, Institute of Health

UBD, Kemuda Institute and other technical schools.

INFORAMA 2012: KODU COMPETITION 3rd November 2012

Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan has participated in the KODU Competition and listed as the

top 5 for secondary category on the first round. The second round was held at STEP centre and

judges came from the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Depart-

ment of Curriculum Development, ICT Unit, Department of Schools, Microsoft (Brunei) Sdn Bhd and

STEP Centre.

The Prize Presentation for Inforama 2012: KODU Competition was held at Lecture Hall, ILIA build-

ing, Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Our school came out as the 3rd runner up in the secondary cate-

gory. Each student received a trophy, a certificate and an ICT Gadget. Our school was also given a

trophy and a certificate.

The top 5 schools in primary and secondary categories are most likely to participate and display

their programming in the forthcoming TECHXPO 2012 which will be held at International Conven-

tion Centre in Berakas on the 1st – 4th December 2012.

HEALTH AWARENESS DAY 22nd November 2012

“HASAN’S HAPPY DAY” 18th November & 19th November 2012

18th November 2012 - The opening of the event "Hasan Happy Day" started with Hasan Car Boot Sale, on the 18th of Novem-ber (Sunday) and it was open to public from 7.30 am to 3.00 pm. It was a two-day event and it was held at the school com-pound itself. Less than 20 participants participated in the Car Boot Sale; selling food, books and accessories to name a few. Other activities such as Cat Show, bouncer and Horse-riding were also made available. Students, teachers and outsiders could purchase the coupons at respective location in school in

order to join the activities provided. The second day event will be held next day where more activities are made available to the public.

19th November 2012 - Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan held 'Hasan Happy Day'. The purpose of the events was to raise funds for the school Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) and Co-Curricular Activities (CCA). Attending the events as guest of honour was the Acting Director of the Co-Curriculum Education Department at the Ministry of Education,

Pg Suhaimi bin Pg Hj Bakar.

The event started off with a speech given by the Senior Master of Co-Curricular Activities, Cg Hj Mahari Bin Hj Nudin, followed by the students’ performance of Gulingtangan and Tausyeh. A slideshow of Asia Pacific Conference of Young Scientists (APCYS) was shown to the audience. There was also a presentation of certificates to teachers and students who have participated in school activities. Prizes were given to the win-ners of ‘school in the garden’ which is a continuous activity for

the members of staff.

The guest of honour was then invited to witness the march past of the different uniform groups in the school; namely, Scouts, Police Cadet, Girl Guides, Army Cadet and Red Crescent. He then proceeded to

view the exhibition on various activities of CCA clubs in our school.

ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY DAY 13th November 2012

Health Awareness Day is to promote healthy lifestyle both

for teachers as well as students. It was held in our school on

22nd November 2012, Thursday . Among the activities con-

ducted were aerobics led by Fitness Zone and Susan Fit-

ness Studio instructors, a health talk by the Ministry of

Health, a cooking competition for students and a Garbage

Enzyme’s Presentation. There was also a health check up

service set up in the library. Ayam Brand and Vegood were

present as our sponsors for the day.

KHATAM AL-QURAN BAGI PENUNTUT TAHUN 11 24hb November 2012

ACHIEVEMENT AND APPRECIATION CEREMONY 28th November 2012

Majlis Khatam Al-Quran kali ke 9 bagi penuntut-penuntut tahun

11 diadakan pada 24 November 2012(10 Muharam 1434 Hi-

jrah). Acara dimulakan dengan persembahan bacaan Al-Quran

dari penuntut tahun 11 Sci1, Hjh Wafiqah bte Hj Daim (Johan

Qariah Pertandingan Tilawah Al-Quran Sekolah-sekolah Menen-

gah dan Maktab-Maktab Senegara bagi Tahun 2012 Masihi).

Tetamu kehormat bagi acara tersebut ialah Haji Abd Kahar Bin

Hj Hussin, Pengarah Jabatan Hal Ehwal Masjid, Kementerian

Hal Ehwal Ugama. Keramaian penuntut yang menyertai Khatam Al-Quran adalah seramai 101 penuntut.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME FOR OUR STUDENTS 26th November 2012

The school’s administration held a potential lead-

ership programme for the students. The pro-

gramme included activities such as working to-

gether as a team and presentations by students

who were involved in conferences and competi-

tions that they had participated to represent our

school.

FIRE DRILL IN SCHOOL 7th November & 20th November 2012

As a safety precaution in our school, the school had invited

officers from the Fire and Rescue Department to give a talk

on the procedure of a Fire Drill in schools as well as how to

handle a fire using different types of fire extinguishers and

the school also held a fire drill training session on the 20th

November.

Before the school holiday starts, our school held an appreciation day to teachers and students who have achieved excellent results in the

examination for Year 8, 9 and 10 students as well as Graduation Day for Edexcel Btec 1 Programme. Some teachers from the Geography,

Art, PE and English Departments received awards for the achievement of their students. A total of 18 students graduated their Edexcel Btec

1 Programme: 10 students from Art, Design and Media and 8 students from IT@Work.

The Guest of Honor for the ceremony was Yang Mulia Pengiran Hj Md Suffri Bin Pengiran Hashim, the Manager from Takaful Brunei Am.

The ceremony included an award to Cikgu Hjh Salmiah Binti Haji Ladi for Outstanding teacher in 2012, Slide Presentation on “Success Sto-

ries of Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Hasan” and ended with a photo session with the Guest of Honor, teachers and students.

PAMERAN SUKARELAWAN ANTARABANGSA 5hb Disember 2012

Kementerian Kebudayaan, Belia dan Sukan telah mengadakan

pameran sukarelawan antarabangsa 2012 yang telah diadakan di

Stadium Tertutup pada 5hb Disember yang lalu. Sekolah Menen-

gah Sayyidina Hasan adalah salah satu sekolah yang telah terli-

bat dalam pameran tersebut.

Pihak sekolah telah mempamerkan aktiviti Komiti Kebajikan Pela-

jar (KKP), aktivit bergotong-royong membersihkan Masjid Pengi-

ran Muda Abdul Mateen di Kampong Mulaut di peringkat sekolah

serta aktiviti Misi Kemanusiaan ke Kemboja yang telah dil-

aksanakan pada 10hb Mac hingga 15hb Mac yang lalu di pering-

kat antarabangsa.
