006.159 As for those who divide their religion and break up into sects, thou hast no part

in them in the least: their affair is with Allah: He will in the end tell them the truth of all

    that they did.

    Al-Qur'an, 006.159 (Al-Anaam [Cattle, Livestock])

023.051 O ye messengers! enjoy (all) things good and pure, and work righteousness: for Iam well-acquainted with (all) that ye do.

023.052 And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your

Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other).

023.053 But people have cut off their affair (of unity), between them, into sects: each

party rejoices in that which is with itself.

023.054 But leave them in their confused ignorance for a time.

030.031 Turn ye back in repentance to Him, and fear Him: establish regular prayers, and

be not ye among those who join gods with Allah,-

030.032 Those who split up their Religion, and become (mere) Sects,- each partyrejoicing in that which is with itself!

    Al-Qur'an, 030.031-032 (Ar-Room [The Romans, The Byzantines])

Volumn 004, Book 056, Hadith Number 803. (SAHIH AL BUKHARI)-----------------------------------------

Narated By Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman : The people used to ask Allah's Apostle about good,

but I used to ask him about evil for fear that it might overtake me. Once I said, "O Allah'sApostle! We were in ignorance and in evil and Allah has bestowed upon us the present

good; will there by any evil after this good?" He said, "Yes." I asked, "Will there be good

after that evil?" He said, "Yes, but it would be trained with Dakhan (i.e. Little evil)." Iasked, "What will its Dakhan be?" He said, "There will be some people who will lead

(people) according to principles other than my tradition. You will see their actions and

disapprove of them." I said, "Will there by any evil after that good?" He said, "Yes, therewill be some people who will invite others to the doors of Hell, and whoever accepts theirinvitation to it will be thrown in it (by them)." I said, "O Allah's Apostle! Describe those

people to us." He said, "They will belong to us and speak our language" I asked, "What

do you order me to do if such a thing should take place in my life?" He said, "Adhere tothe group of Muslims and their Chief." I asked, "If there is neither a group (of Muslims)

nor a chief (what shall I do)?" He said, "Keep away from all those different sects, evenif you had to bite (i.e. eat) the root of a tree, till you meet Allah while you are still in

    that state."

Narated By Hudhaifa bin Al-Yaman : The people used to ask Allah's Apostle about the

good but I used to ask him about the evil lest I should be overtaken by them. So I said, "OAllah's Apostle! We were living in ignorance and in an (extremely) worst atmosphere,

then Allah brought to us this good (i.e., Islam); will there be any evil after this good?" He

said, "Yes." I said, 'Will there be any good after that evil?" He replied, "Yes, but it will betainted (not pure.)'' I asked, "What will be its taint?" He replied, "(There will be) some

people who will guide others not according to my tradition? You will approve of some of

their deeds and disapprove of some others." I asked, "Will there be any evil after thatgood?" He replied, "Yes, (there will be) some people calling at the gates of the (Hell)

Fire, and whoever will respond to their call, will be thrown by them into the (Hell) Fire."

I said, "O Allah s Apostle! Will you describe them to us?" He said, "They will be fromour own people and will speak our language." I said, "What do you order me to do if such

a state should take place in my life?" He said, "Stick to the group of Muslims and their

Imam (ruler)." I said, "If there is neither a group of Muslims nor an Imam (ruler)?" Hesaid, "Then turn away from all those sects even if you were to bite (eat) the roots of

a tree till death overtakes you while you are in that state."

007.037 Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects His

Signs? For such, their portion appointed must reach them from the Book (of decrees):

until, when our messengers (of death) arrive and take their souls, they say: "Where are

the things that ye used to invoke besides Allah?" They will reply, "They have left us inthe lurch," And they will bear witness against themselves, that they had rejected Allah.

016.020 Those whom they invoke besides Allah create nothing and are themselves

    created.

016.021 (They are things) dead, lifeless: nor do they know when they will be raised up.

016.022 Your Allah is one Allah: as to those who believe not in the Hereafter, their hearts

016.086 When those who gave partners to Allah will see their "partners", they will say:"Our Lord! these are our 'partners,' those whom we used to invoke besides Thee." But

    Meaning ofal-Waseelah

Waseelah is nearness and the means by which one approaches

and draws near to something. In the Islamic context, Waseelah

refers to the means by which once can achieve nearness with

    Allah.

Another meaning of al-Waseelah is a rank and standing with

Allah, as is the Hadeeth. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: When

you hear the caller to prayer then say the like of what he says,

then send blessings upon me Then ask Allah to grant me al-

Waseelah because it is a station in Paradise, which is

appropriate only for a single servant from the servants of Allah,

and I hope that it will be me.

    (Saheeh Muslim vol.1, no.747.)

Allah says in the Quraan: O you who believe! Do your duty to

Allah and fear Him. Seek the means of approach (al-Waseelah)

to Him, and strive hard in His Cause as much as you can. So

  • 8/14/2019 Quran & Sahih Hadith

    13/25

that you may be successful. Al-Qur'an, 005.035

Al-Hafidh Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah) reported Ibn Abbas (radiallahu anhu)

saying in his commentary of this verse: The meaning of al-

Waseelah is to draw closer. He also reports from Qatadah: This

is that you draw near to Him by obedience to Him and through

actions that are pleasing to Him.And Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah)

said: And with regard to what those Imams (Ibn Abbas and

Qatadah) said there is no disagreement between the scholars of

Tafseer about it al-Waseelah is that by means of which one

    reaches that which he desires.

    (Tafseer Ibn Katheer.)

These two verses and their authentic Tafseers (commentaries)

clearly explain that Waseelah consists of seeking nearness to Allah

by means ofrighteousness in order to get closer to Allah.

This refutes any other explanation of Waseelah like that of those

who consider Waseelah to mean directly supplicating to the dead

saints. It refutes the erroneous belief held by many people of

seeking Tawassul through the status and honor of the Prophets

  • 8/14/2019 Quran & Sahih Hadith

    14/25

    and saints.

Tawassul in the Quraan and the Sunnah

The correct means of Tawassul are three

Tawassul by means of Allahs Beautiful Names,

Tawassul by means of righteous deeds of the supplicant

    and,

Tawassul by means of a supplication made by a righteous

Person (to ask any righteous living person to

    make Duaa (supplication) for oneself)

017.056 Say: "Call on those - besides Him - whom ye fancy: they have neither the power

to remove your troubles from you nor to change them."

017.057 Those whom they call upon do desire (for themselves) means of access to their

Lord (Waseelah), - even those who are nearest: they hope for His Mercy and fear His

Wrath: for the Wrath of thy Lord is something to take heed of.

like angels, Ies (Jesus), 'Uzair (Ezra), etc.]. They have neither the power to remove theadversity from you nor even to shift it from you to another person."

    57. Those whom they call upon [like 'Iesa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary), 'Uzair (Ezra),

angel, etc.] desire (for themselves) means of access to their Lord (Allh), as to which ofthem should be the nearest and they ['Iesa (Jesus), 'Uzair (Ezra), angels, etc.] hope for His

Mercy and fear His Torment. Verily, the Torment of your Lord is something to be afraid

046.028 Why then was no help forthcoming to them from those whom they worshipped

as gods, besides Allah, as a means of access (to Allah)? Nay, they left them in the lurch:

but that was their falsehood and their invention.

    Al-Qur'an, 046.027-028 (Al-Ahqaf [The Wind-curved Sandhills, The Dunes])

    Volumn 009, Book 093, Hadith Number 601.

    -----------------------------------------

Narated By Ma'bad bin Hilal Al'Anzi : We, i.e., some people from Basra gathered and

went to Anas bin Malik, and we went in company with Thabit Al-Bunnani so that hemight ask him about the Hadith of Intercession on our behalf. Behold, Anas was in his

palace, and our arrival coincided with his Duha prayer. We asked permission to enter andhe admitted us while he was sitting on his bed. We said to Thabit, "Do not ask him aboutanything else first but the Hadith of Intercession." He said, "O Abu Hamza! There are

your brethren from Basra coming to ask you about the Hadith of Intercession." Anas then

said, "Muhammad talked to us saying, 'On the Day of Resurrection the people will surge

with each other like waves, and then they will come to Adam and say, 'Please intercedefor us with your Lord.' He will say, 'I am not fit for that but you'd better go to Abraham as

he is the Khalil of the Beneficent.' They will go to Abraham and he will say, 'I am not fit

for that, but you'd better go to Moses as he is the one to whom Allah spoke directly.' Sothey will go to Moses and he will say, 'I am not fit for that, but you'd better go to Jesus as

will say, 'I am not fit for that, but you'd better go to Muhammad.'

They would come to me and I would say, 'I am for that.' Then I will ask for my Lord's

permission, and it will be given, and then He will inspire me to praise Him with such

praises as I do not know now. So I will praise Him with those praises and will fall down,

has told us." So we went to him and we greeted him and he admitted us. We said to him,

"O Abu Said! We came to you from your brother Anas Bin Malik and he related to us aHadith about the intercession the like of which I have never heard." He said, "What is

that?" Then we told him of the Hadith and said, "He stopped at this point (of the

Hadith)." He said, "What then?" We said, "He did not add anything to that." He said,

Anas related the Hadith to me twenty years ago when he was a young fellow. I don'tknow whether he forgot or if he did not like to let you depend on what he might have

said." We said, "O Abu Said ! Let us know that." He smiled and said, "Man was createdhasty. I did not mention that, but that I wanted to inform you of it.

Anas told me the same as he told you and said that the Prophet added, 'I then return for a

fourth time and praise Him similarly and prostrate before Him me the same as he 'O

Muhammad, raise your head and speak, for you will be listened to; and ask, for you willbe granted (your request): and intercede, for your intercession will be accepted.' I will

say, 'O Lord, allow me to intercede for whoever said, 'None has the right to be

worshiped except Allah.' Then Allah will say, 'By my Power, and my Majesty, andby My Supremacy, and by My Greatness, I will take out of Hell (Fire) whoever said:
