School nursing is a type of public health nursing that

focuses on the promotion of the health and wellness of

pupils/students, teaching and non-teaching personnel of

    the school.

This is the first time that the department of the COLLEGE

OF NURSING is conducting this kind of research whichentailed us the determination, time and effort to come out

    with a completion.

This activity consists of a survey tool which we use to

conduct an interview to the personnel of this institution. We collated, tabulated and interpret the data we gathered

to have a clear view to the current health status of the area

    studied.

Our goal is to assess , document and evaluate all the data

of the personnel :teaching and non-teaching in Systems Plus

College Foundation. After conducting the study the studentnurses are expected to achieve the following objectives:

a.) The students shall be able to identify health related

    problems of the employees.

b.) The students shall be able to come up with possible

health programs to the identified problems.

    Add third objectives

Our is to collate, analyze and interpret all the significant

    data needed for the study.

    1. The Community Survey Tool focuses on Systems Plus

College Foundation premises and answered all the

questions cited on Community Survey Tool.

    2. That all data gathered from CST are at least 80% of the total

    population for every department.

    3. The CST involves a field-work interviews on every

Department of Systems Plus College Foundation, monitoring

and observations of their lifestyles that may contribute to

their existing problem (to be particular- hypertensive client)

    4.That all references used are:

The researchers used interview for data collection.

Interview is a method of data collection in which an

interviewer obtains responses from a subject in a face toface encounter. It is also stated that an interview is used to

obtain factual data about people as well as to measure their

opinions, attitudes, and beliefs about certain topics.

  • 7/31/2019 pinakafinal 1-3

    10/84

The type of interview used is a structured interview. A

structured interview (also known as a standardized interview or

    a researcher-administered survey) is a quantitative research

method commonly employed in survey research. The aim of

this approach is to ensure that each interview is presented with

exactly the same questions in the same order. This ensures that

answers can be reliably aggregated and that comparisons can

be made with confidence between sample subgroups or

    between different survey periods.(NEED edit)

Structured interviews are a means of collecting data for a

statistical survey. In this case, the data is collected by an

interviewer rather than through a self-administered

questionnaire. Interviewers read the questions exactly as theyappear on the survey questionnaire. The choice of answers to

the questions is often fixed (close-ended) in advance, though

open-ended questions can also be included within a structured

    interview.

  • 7/31/2019 pinakafinal 1-3

    11/84

The questions are contained in an interview guide with a

focus on the issues or topic areas to be covered by the

    researchers.

In the present study, the students used a CST in order tokeep the answers of the respondents in focus. The survey tool is

structured wherein they ask the same question for every

    respondent.

The students also used paraphernalia such as blood pressure

apparatus, thermometer both of digital and axillary, weighing

scale, tape measure, and wrist watch in order to obtain the

data needed on the survey tool. The following are the uses of

the paraphernalia used by the students:

1.Blood Pressure Apparatus used to obtain the blood pressureof each respondent.

2.Thermometer used to obtain the present temperature of

    each respondent.

3Weighing Scale used to measure the weight of each

    respondent in kilograms and pounds.

  • 7/31/2019 pinakafinal 1-3

    12/84

    4. Tape measure used to measure the height of each

respondent. Also it was used to measure the actual floor area

of a certain room or vicinity.

    5. Wrist Watch used to count the respiratory rate and pulse

rate of the respondents in one full minute.

    DATA COLLECTION PROCESS

First, we conducted an ocular visit in the area and used manila

paper and pens to draw the spot map. The students along withtheir clinical instructor first made a courtesy call and informed

each department through a letter regarding the CST that they

will conduct. Then we were grouped into two major groups,

wherein each group was subdivided into three. Each smaller

group were assigned to different zones within the school. Thereare 6 zones made which covered the entire school. In each

zone, there are different departments to be interviewed by the

students. We used a structured interview to gather data with an

    aid of a CST.

  • 7/31/2019 pinakafinal 1-3

    13/84

Each respondent is to be interviewed and assessed by two

students. The first student obtains the vital signs, weight, and

height of the respondent while the other simultaneously

asked about the demographic data, highest educational

attainment, and position of the respondent in the respectivedepartment.

After the interview, the students collated the data obtained

by all of the groups from each department. Data were tallied,

    tabulated, analyzed, and interpreted.

In the time of the interview, the students were in their

complete white nursing uniform. They were professional in

their attitude and attire in order to make the interview formal

    and credible.

On June 19,2009 water currents in a creek become more

powerful than usual and that grounds nearby become eroded.

Because of this ,two SPCFs class rooms, which were nearby,

plunge into the creek. Fortunately, there were no injuries as

both class rooms were vacant at the time. Other structures that

were near the creek were also damage. The cost was worth

Body weight is Body weight of a person is t the weight of the

person without any items on. However, for all practical

purposes, body weight is taken with clothes on but often

without the shoes and heavy accessories like mobile phones

and wallets. It is measured in kilograms throughout the world,

although in some countries it is still measured in pounds.

Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has

accumulated to the extent that it may have an adverse effecton health, leading to reduced life expectancy and/or increased

    health problems.

Overweight is generally defined as having more body fatthan is optimally healthy. Being overweight is a common

Underweight refers to a human who is considered to be

under a healthy weight. "Underweight" means weighing less

than what is expected to be a healthy person (underweight =

Health Implications: Obesity increases the likelihood of various

diseases, ..add According to.(used reference). particularly heart

disease, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, certain types

of cancer, and osteoarthritis. Obesity is most commonly caused

by a combination of excessive food energy intake, lack ofphysical activity, and genetic susceptibility, although a few cases

are caused primarily by genes, endocrine disorders, medications

or psychiatric illness. Evidence to support the view that some

obese people eat little yet gain weight due to a slow metabolism

is limited; on average obese people have a greater energyexpenditure than their thin counterparts due to the energy

required to maintain an increased body mass. On the other

hand, being underweight can sometimes be the result of mental

or physical disease, such as hyperthyroidism, cancer, or

tuberculosis. People with gastrointestinal or liver problems maybe unable to absorb nutrients adequately. People with eating

disorders are likely to become underweight. In women, being

grossly underweight can result in amenorrhea (absence of

menstruation), infertility and possible complications during

pregnancy. It can also cause anemia and hair loss.

ANALYSIS: Analysis shows that stressful situations, in the

psychological occupational environment are the greatest

stress factors regardless of the workplace. Married

professionals have significantly high stress as compared to

unmarried ones and the values are statistically significantlylower in people under the thirty years of age and with less

potential stress factor from the physical environment and

employee working in settings without support from their

superiors and engaged in inter professional conflicts face agreater problem at workplace.

HEALTH IMPLICATION: When stress is handled in a negative

manner it usually leads to depression. To come out of this

depression many take the harmful help of tobacco, alcohol,

and drugs, all of which give a sense of stress relief. In reality

your body still remains stressed, and these substances just

help make matters worse. Stress effects on the body can be

ANALYSIS: Whether an association between alcohol drinking

and gastric cancer risk exists is an open question. In order to

provide a definite quantification of the association between

alcohol drinking and gastric cancer risk.

Health implication: Alcohol is a central nervous system

depressant. In small quantities, alcohol results in a mild

euphoria and usually removes inhibitions. This can be

described as one of the psychological effects of alcohol.

In excessive quantities, however, alcohol can lead to alcohol

poisoning, drunkenness (also known as intoxication),

alcoholism, coma, and death. These are some of the alcohol

effects on the body that characterize the worst drinking

problems and the most destructive consequences of alcohol

    abuse and alcoholism.

ANALYSIS: To some studies, the average height of Filipinos 53

and 411 for female. It is not common for us Filipinos to have a

height of 6 and above because of our ancient ancestors who

have a height of not exceeding 5.

HEALTH IMPLICATION: Most intra-population variance of height

is genetic. Short stature and tall stature are usually not a health

concern. If the degree of deviation from normal is significant,

hereditary short stature is known as familial short stature andtall stature is known as familial tall stature. Confirmation that

exceptional height is normal for a respective person can be

ascertained from comparing stature of family members and

analyzing growth trends for abrupt changes, among others.

There are, however, various diseases and disorders that cause

growth abnormalities. Most notably, extreme height may be

pathological, such as gigantism (very rare) a condition

characterized by excessive growth and height significantly above

average. In humans, this condition is caused by over-production

of growth hormone. Hyperpituitarism and dwarfism .

synonymous with laziness, since a person can be very busy with

work and family but without inherent opportunities to exercise.

Someone who works at a computer in an office, typically driving

or riding in a motor vehicle to and from work, and coming home

afterward to watch television or sit in front of a computer once

more is likely to stay busy but still not find ways to remain

physically active. This means it can be critically important for

people who work in these types of careers to find other

opportunities for exercise or physical activity.

Health Implications: Numerous studies conducted by doctors

and researchers have indicated a variety of negative impacts on

a persons life due to living a sedentary lifestyle. Most common

among them is increased weight gain and obesity and the

accompanying health problems they can cause, such as heart

disease, diabetes, and increased chances of certain types of

cancer. Lack of exercise can also have a negative impact on a

Analysis: There are varied reasons why a person gets

hypertensive. Overeating resulting in obesity is a very common

cause. Factors like heredity and racial background also

predispose a person to hypertension. People whose parents

have a known history of hypertension are more likely to suffer

high blood pressure themselves. Stress whether physical, social

or that related to business is also a known factor in high blood

pressure. Smokers may also amplify their vulnerability to

hypertension. A smoker may temporarily increase his systolic

blood pressure to five to ten times higher every time hesmokes a single cigarette.

  • 7/31/2019 pinakafinal 1-3

    73/84

Health Implication: High blood pressure damages arterial walls,

causing them to thicken (arteriosclerosis). When blood vessel

linings become damaged, fatty deposits stick to them, cloggingblood flow (atherosclerosis). The force of blood pressure over

time may lead to an aneurysm, a ballooning of the arterial walls,

which may rupture. High blood pressure on the arteries directly

damages your heart. This leads to heart disease, heart

enlargement and heart failure due to the increased exertion

required. Chronic high blood pressure causes stroke, dementia

and cognitive impairment. The pressure can damage or rupture

blood vessels and cause blockages in the brain as it does in

arteries. Again, the pressure damages the tiny blood vessels of

the inner kidney, resulting in the kidneys' failure to process

    waste from blood.

Body Mass Index (BMI) A key index for relating a person's body

weight to their height. The BMI is a person's weight in pounds

(lbs) multiply by 705 divided by inches squared (in2).

OverweightIs defined as a BMI of 25-29.9, according to Janet R.

Weber. The term "overweight" is used in two different ways. In

one sense it is a way of saying imprecisely that someone is

heavy. The other sense of "overweight" is more precise and

designates a state between normal weight and obesity.Obese

Is defined as a BMI of 30 and above, according to the NIH. (A

BMI of 30 is about 30 pounds overweight.)

    Underweight

Refers to a human who is considered to be under a

healthy weight. A BMI of under 18.5.

and physical inactivity. People often say that they don t have

time to be physically active because of long work hours and time

    spent commuting.

Health Implication: Obesity also increases the risk of developing

a number of chronic diseases such as Insulin Resistance, Type 2

(adult-onset) diabetes, High blood pressure (hypertension),

    Heart attack, and Cancer.

Developing osteoporosis (brittle and weak bones) is very

common in underweight people. The lack of calcium and vitamin

D in one's diet leads to osteoporosis. Also, the immune system's

ability is largely weakened due to malnutrition, leaving one's

body at a high risk of being sick and not being able to fight it off

properly. Anemia also is prevalent in people who are

underweight, because insufficient iron causes fatigue, chest pain

and the inability to breathe properly.

Hereditary Illness refers to a disease or disorder that is inherited

    genetically.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) - is a disease in which the body does notproduce or properly use insulin.

Hypertension or high blood pressure - is a condition in which

the blood pressure in the arteries is chronically elevated.

Asthma -is a chronic (long-term) lung disease that inflames and

narrows the airways. Asthma causes recurring periods of

wheezing (a whistling sound when you breathe), chest tightness,

shortness of breath, and coughing. The coughing often occurs at

night or early in the morning.

Heart disease, also called cardiovascular disease, mainly affects

older people and means that there are problems with the heart

    and blood vessels.

Cancer -The name for diseases in which the body's cells become

abnormal and divide without control. Cancer cells may invade

nearby tissues. And they may spread through the bloodstream

Eye problem - Any abnormalities or unusual things that happen

in any parts of the eye. These unusual things can be in color,

shape, size, functions, sensations or position of the eye.

Interpretation: There were 37.04% or 70 personnel who have a
