    (1)Scholarships

    a. University Scholarships and Awards:

    National Taichung University of EducationGuidelines for International Student Scholarships Application

    Officially resolved in the 9th Administrative Conference of Academic Year 2007 convened on April 15, 2008

    Partially amended in the 7th Administrative Conference of Academic Year 2009 convened on December 1, 2009Articles VI, VII amended in the 1 st Administrative Conference of Academic Year 2010 convened on August 3, 2010

    I. These Guidelines, known as Guidelines of the National Taichung University ofEducation to Grant Scholarships to International Students (hereinafter referred to as the

    Guidelines) are duly enacted by National Taichung University of Education

    (hereinafter referred to as NTCU) to boost exchange with the internationalcommunity, solicit outstanding international students to be admitted to NTCU andprovide incentives to current students remarkable in both academic studies and conduct.

    II. The funds required under the Guidelines shall come from NTCUs School Affair Fund.

    III. Eligible applicants for the Scholarships:(I) An international freshman who applies for admission to NTCU (excluding anoverseas Chinese student)

    (II) An international student currently studying in NTCU (excluding a repeat studentand an overseas Chinese student).

    A student under either category of the two paragraphs above is ineligible to apply for theScholarship hereunder if they have been granted any scholarship from the Republic of Chinagovernment.IV. Time and procedures to apply for the Scholarship hereunder:

    (I) An international student as a freshman: Please proceed with the applicationprocedures for the Scholarship upon applying for admission of NTCU. The

    application documents for admission and Scholarship shall be reviewed at thesame time.(II) An officially accredited international student currently studying at NTCU:

    Please file application with the International Affairs and Research &Development Division of NTCU on or before February 28/29 and September 30every year.

    V. Document required:(I) An international student as a freshman: Scholarship application form and

    documents required for application for NTCU admission.(II) An officially accredited international student currently studying at NTCU:

    Scholarship application form and the academic transcript of NTCU in the

    preceding semester and a photocopy of the current term student identitycertificate.VI. Contents of the Scholarship:

    (I) An international student as a freshman: Tuition and miscellaneous fees waivedin the first year (Fall semester) or in the first semester (Spring semester) (aninternational student in the bachelor program shall be duly recommended by hisor her department or graduate school). All awarded international students areexempt from lodging fees throughout the school period (excluding summer,winter vacations).

    (II) An officially accredited international student currently studying at NTCU:

    1. Average academic score of 80 or above in the preceding academic year in case

    of international students in the bachelor program (four awardees); Average

    academic score of 90 or above in the preceding academic year in case of

    international students in the masters program (two awardees); Average

    academic score of 90 or above in the preceding academic year in case of

    international students in the doctoral program (one awardee) and scoring 80 or

    above in conduct. Each awardee is granted a Scholarship amounting to

    NT$6,000 per month and is exempted from lodging fares throughout the

    schooling period (excluding summer, winter vacations).

    2. Average academic score of 75 or above in the preceding academic year in case

    of international students in the bachelor program (eight awardees); Average

    academic score of 85 or above in the preceding academic year in case of

    international students in the masters program (four awardees); Average

    academic score of 85 or above in the preceding academic year in case of

    international students in the doctoral program (one awardee) and scoring 80 or

    above in conduct. Each awardee is granted a Scholarship amounting to

    NT$4,000 per month and is exempted from lodging fares throughout the

    schooling period (excluding summer, winter vacations).3. Average academic score of 70 or above in the preceding academic year in case

    of international students in the bachelor program (twenty awardees); Average

    academic score of 80 or above in the preceding academic year in case of

    international students in the masters program (eight awardees); Average

    academic score of 80 or above in the preceding academic year in case of

    international students in the doctoral program (two awardees) and scoring 80 or

    above in conduct. Each awardee is granted a Scholarship amounting to

    NT$2,000 per month and is halved for lodging fares throughout the schooling

    period (excluding summer, winter vacations).

    (III) The Scholarship may be granted a maximum of four years for internationalstudents in the bachelor program, two years for international students in themasters program and three years for international students in the doctoral

    program.IV An extraordinary case, if any, may be submitted in a special program to the

    International Students Scholarships/Fellowships Review Panel for review as theactual situations may justify.

    VII. All Scholarship awardees are obliged to render support to and work for the relevant

    departments or graduate schools, or the administrative units for four hours per weekTheperformance of the work shall be taken as the reference in determining the application inthe ensuing semester.

    VIII. The International Students Scholarships/Fellowships Review Panel organized by theInternational Affairs and Research & Development Division of NTCU shall assume theresponsibility to review and grant the Scholarship, by selecting the qualified applicantsbased on their average scores, ranks in the classes and extraordinary performances.

    IX. The Scholarship is granted on a monthly basis during the periods where the awardees are

    studying with NTCU; from August till January for international students in the autumnsemester, from February till July for international students in the spring semester. Thegraduating students may lodge in the NTCU student dorms based on the semesters, tillJune 30 and January 31 respectively.

    IX. These Guidelines and amendment hereof shall come into enforcement after being

    officially resolved by the Administrative Council of NTCU.

    The authority in charge of these Guidelines is the International Affairs and Research & DevelopmentDivision. These Guidelines were officially resolved in the 1 st Administrative Meeting of Academic Year2010(August 3, 2010), officially approved by the NTCU President on September 8, 2010 andpromulgated on September 9, 2010.

    (2) On-Campus working opportunities

    A scholarship name list will be provided to the student affairs department, in order to assist in

    the arrangement of part-time jobs. The current wage for part-time jobs is NTD 103 per hour.
