    Malaysia is a trade dependent economygenerates large volume trade to betransported to and from global marketsespecially within the region

    Logistics is seen as a strong enabler of trade,supporting key industries such asmanufacturing, oil and gas.

    Logistics industry is highly fragmented and isvery competitive

    Highly dependent on intermodaltransportation to move freight between land,sea and air modes

    Logistics Unit inMOT was

    established in2009, under the

    Planning andResearch Division.

    In 2013, it was put underthe Land and LogisticsDivision with 2 officers

    MOT involved as andwhen issues being raisedby the industry playersmore on infra andregulations

    There is no “real” policymaking in logistics (yet)

    LOGISTICS SERVICES IN ASEAN

    ASEAN Coordinating Committee on Services (CCS) agreed toestablish the Logistics and Transport Services Working Group(LTSSWG) to implement the measures under the LogisticsRoadmap which are related to CCS.

    In the past decade, ASEAN logistics market expandssignificantly, alongside various Free Trade Agreements beingimplemented within ASEAN as well as with ASEAN DialoguePartners.

    In 2006, ASEAN Economic Ministers decided Logistics Sector asthe twelfth Priority Sector in ASEAN for accelerated economicintegration, in addition to the eleven priority sectors identified in2003.
