The time suggested to complete this section is 60 minutes

1 A student carries out an experiment to find the relationship between base current , Ib , and

collector current , Ic, of a transistor. The arrangement of the apparatus for the experiment is shown in Figure 1.1

At the beginning of the experiment, a 2.2 kO resistor is used in the base circuit as shown in Figure 1.1. The switch is closed and the milliammeter reading Ib1, is recorded. The experiment is repeated to get a second reading, Ib2. The actual readings of Ib1 and Ib2 are shown in Figure 1.2 on page 6.

The experiment is repeated by using 3.9 kO , 4.7 kO , 6.8 kO and 10.1 kO resistors.

The readings of the milliammeter are shown in Figures 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 on page 6 and 7.

The time suggested to complete this section is 30 minutes

3 Figures 3.1 shows a boat with one passenger. .

Figures 3.2 shows the boat when laden with many passengers. The boat sinks deeper into the water. .

Using this information ;

(a ) Make one suitable inference, [1 mark ] (b ) State one appropriate hypothesis that could be investigated, [1 mark ]

(c) Design an experiment to investigate the hypothesis sta ted in (b). Choose suitable apparatus such as a measuring cylinder, plasticine and others.

In your description, state clearly the following:

(i) aim of the experiment

(ii) variables in the experiment (iii) list of apparatus and materials (iv) arrangement of the appa ratus (v) the procedure of the experiment, which includes the method of

controlling the manipulated variable and the method of measuring the responding variable

4 Figure 4. 1 and Figure 4.2 show an assembly in a school hall. In Figure 4.1, a prefect discovered that a few rows of student could not hear the

principal’s voice clearly. .

When the two speakers are far apart as in Figure 4.2, the prefect found that more rows
