Wilayah Perak Selatan (WPS), a Perak state agenda – a new growth area of Koridor Utara, the Northern Corridor Economic Region. It is situated in Perak, the second largest state of West Malaysia. A vast area covering over one million acres of land, WPS consists of four interconnected nodes focusing on 15 Economic Catalyst Projects (ECPs). Leveraging on its geographical strength and the spillover from the logistics connectivity, Bagan Datuk demonstrates a strong capability and the capacity to support and grow the heavy industries, and to become the catalyst for growth in WPS.

Perak Heavy Industrial Park (PHIP), the flagship development of Bagan Datuk offers good accessibility for easy access and movement of goods. Designed to forge industrial partnerships with other parks in Malaysia creating a ready cluster, PHIP is set to be equipped with world-class facilities and infrastructure, efficient park management alongside impervious security control.

Complementing the heavy industries and the logistics hub is the new township of Bagan Datuk Water City, an immaculately planned township to cater to the demand of residential, commercial, recreational, educational and world-class tourism and hospitality facilities.

WPS is in the midst of positioning Tanjung Malim as the Southeast Asia leader in the next generation technology of Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAV). Known as NXGV25, this ECP will create a dedicated living laboratory (test bed) for some of the world’s leading companies from the automotive, telecommunication, cybersecurity and technology industries to develop their CAV products and services in a dedicated cluster.

This initiative will accelerate the adoption of CAVs in major metropolitan cities around Malaysia and Southeast Asia as early as 2025.

NXGV25 will eventually also be positioned as a CAV manufacturing and services development centre for businesses that intend to use Malaysia’s competitive economic environment as their platform in Asia region.

Set to be a fully integrated education hub, housing selected faculties of universities and advanced skills colleges and educational institutions, Tapah is the perfect location to create light spirited intellectuals. Its catalyst development, EduCity is envisioned to act as a feeder of talent to support the various economic activities of the four nodes in WPS and beyond.EduCity will initially focus on the needs and requirements from the automotive, heavy industries and tourism sector. While it continues to build the talent pool to immediately serve these growing industries, it will remain sensitive towards the future needs of the emerging sectors and the nodes. With academia industry and R&D centres, student accommodation and amenities, Tapah provides an excellent environment in cultivating the right type of talent.

Subsequently, element of holistic green economy and the adoption of ICT in plantations and agriculture are incorporated in the roadmap of the strategies for rubber, plastics and fertilizer clusters.

The national emphasis on food security has presented Teluk Intan the opportunity to leverage on its experience and technology developed throughout the years in the industry. With a clear focus on agro-based industries, WPS enables the rural community, majority consisting of the Bottom 40 per cent (B40) income group, to be part of this important initiative in providing the people with access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food.

With its rich natural resources, the Economic Catalyst Projects designed for the node will help create an eco-agro-tourism and industrial footprint for Teluk Intan.

At the federal level, WPS state agenda is reported at Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) Council which is chaired by the Prime Minister.
