S Yap, Isma 9 KOTA KINABALU: University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) inked a Memorandum of Agree- ment (MOA) with P. S Yap, Isma & Associates to provide industry training for students and lecturers in the field of accountancy. Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Harun Ab- dullah said the signing pavesthe way forward for enhancing industry-academic cooperation between the two parties to allow wider op- portunities for final-year accountancy stu- dents to get their on-the-job training in cam- pus. "This marks another step forward for UMS and P. S Yap, Isma & Associates in heightening joint cooperation to widen opportunities for university studentsto obtain quality academic training, enhance employability to fulfil in- dustry standards, "he said. Speaking to the reporters yesterday, Harun said the partnership betweenUMS and the P. S Yap, Isma & Associates also resulted in the opening of the first on-campus accounting "Business Solutions@UMS" office in UMS which provides on-the-job training to account- ing students. "The accounting firm had also received and trained 48 UMS accountancy graduates who completed their training within the period of 2 to six months since the on-campus office was launched in 2015, " Harun said,noting 10UMS graduates are already employed and pursuing their careers with P. S Yap, Isma & Asso- ciates. According to Harun, the experience gained at the on-campus office would allow students to immediately apply their skills in the industry with minimum supervision upon graduates, thus significantly increasing their employ- ability. "The on-campus office was jointly launched with the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the university and the accountancy firm on May 19,2015, " he added. Simposium UMS, SMKA Limauan bantu ketengah isu pembangunan negeri Sabah NSt 4-5 -20 (KOTA

KINABALU: Simposium Peranan Alumni Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Aga- ma (SMKA) Limauan anjuran bezsama SMKA Limauan dan Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) baru-baru ini mampu mengetengahkan pelbagai aspek berkaitan pembangunan negeri Sabah melalui sesi perbincangan ilmiah antara peserta dari pelbagai latar belakang.

Simposium yang mengumpulkan seramai 200 peserta yang terdiri daripada mantan gu- ru-guru dan alumni SMKA Limauan dari tahun 1977 sehingga 2003 turut melibatkan beberapa ahli akademik UMS bagi membincangkan isu-isu sepeiti pengurusan sains dan teknologi, pendidikan dan pembangunan, sosio ekonomi dan sejarah sekolah berkenaan.

Turut berlangsung forum bertajuk 'Ke- unikan Tarkiyab Limauan: Dan Kepayahan Hingga Kejayaan' yang membariskan tiga ahli panel iaitu Pengarah Yayasan Dakwah Is- lamiah Malaysia (YADIM) Cawangan Sabah,

Sementara itu, Pembantu Menteri di Ja- batan Ketua Menteri, Datuk Arifin Arif ketika menyampaikan ucapan perasmian penutupan berkata, pertemuan besar alumni SMKA Li- mauan itu mampu memberi impak yang besar ke arah persauda:. an serta menjadikan alumni sebagai nadi penggerak kemajuan negeri Sabah dalam setiap aspek khususnya menyediakan modal insan kelas pertama dalam mendepani dunia yang semakin mencabar.

Turut hadir Pengerusi Penaja Persatuan Alumni SMKA Limauan, Hj. Salman Datuk Hj. Ismail, Pendaftar UMS, No'man Ahmad yang juga merupakan pengerusi penganjur simposium, dan mantan pengetua pertama SM- KA Limauan, Ustaz Hj Ismail Hassan.
