Reactions 1379 - 26 Nov 2011 S Cetuximab Deep vein and arterial thrombosis: case report A 35-year-old man developed deep vein and arterial thrombosis during treatment with cetuximab for left tonsil carcinoma. The man started on cetuximab weekly at 400 mg/m 2 in the first week and then at 250 mg/m 2 thereafter [route not stated] concurrently with radiotherapy. He developed skin reactions on his cheek from the second week. After four doses of cetuximab, he felt a sudden pain in his left calf area; the pain radiated to his left foot. He also lost sensation below his left ankle joint. His lower left leg color Doppler scan showed complete thrombosis of the lower superficial popliteal, femoral and proximal tibial arteries and veins with some collateral channels. No flow was observed in his anterior tibial artery and lower posterior tibial artery. The man underwent emergency embolectomy and received low molecular weight heparin. He remained under observation for 48 hours, but showed no improvement. Additionally, there were skin colour changes in the foot. His repeat color Doppler scan confirmed previous findings and his lower left leg was amputated. He continued on radiotherapy alone without cetuximab. Gupta D, et al.
