At YOKOHAMA I NDUSTRIES, our m otto o f “Learning from experience and g rowing o n knowledge” has brought us a long way, placing YOKOHAMA today at the pinnacle of lead acid battery manufacture in Malaysia. As an organisation that cares for the environment, we also recycle scrap batteries apart from manufacturing them. In f act, about 97% o f ULAB ( used l ead-acid batteries) are recycled, ensuring that we remove more lead from the eco system than what w e introduce, i n virgin f orm. Research & development f orms t he foundation and backbone f or g rowth at YOKOHAMA INDUSTRIES. Our business practices a re c onducted in accordance with t he guidelines o f Environmental I SO standards, which is contrary to the misconception that battery manufacturing and lead reclamation are “dirty” businesses.

YOKOHAMA INDUSTRIES traces its origins back to 1967, when i t was f ounded a s Tai Kwong Yokohama. I n the beginning, t he business was based o n reconditioning used automotive batteries. Today, t he c ompany operates a c utting-edge m anufacturing plant t hat resides on 36 acres of land in Selangor. This integrated battery p lant features automated lines, well-equipped Research & Development facilities and full engineering capabilities, and i s renowned f or being t he l argest & most advanced SLI battery manufacturer in the country. YOKOHAMA I NDUSTRIES has been a Public L isted Company on the Malaysian bourse since 1995.

A wholly owned 5-acre lead reclamation plant in Perak offers l ead r ecycling and b lending s ervices w ithin t he group. Proper in-house lead recycling not only prevents hazardous discharge that poisons the water table, but also p rovides a natural hedge against fluctuations o f FOREX and LME p rice levels o f lead. A c arbon audit indicates t hat t he 1,500 t ons o f lead p rocessed per month in our p lant i n Pengkalan m itigates about 230 tons of CO2 that would otherwise be released into the atmosphere each month.

Besides I SO9001 & I SO14001 c ertification, t he integrated m anufacturing facility i s the only battery manufacturing plant in Malaysia certified to TS16949.

YOKOHAMA batteries record over 1 7,000 points of sales domestically, and i s exported to m ore than 40 countries worldwide. A s a testament t o its quality, YOKOHAMA has gained acceptance as an OEM supplier for our national cars and other automotive brands.
