Challenge - System Using the telescope houses as a reference, develop a system for growth and expansion that acknowledges context and concept. Based on your system for growth and expansion, design at least (2) additons to the original house. Develop, in three-dimensions, the interior environments needed to accomodate this family and their actvites. The additons can grow up or out from the existng house. You will develop the overall volumes of these spaces and plan the spaces within them - producing a furniture plan that shows furniture, interior walls, windows, and doors.

Project Site - The project is located on the East Side of Buffalo amongst the telescope houses. The building lot has a fixed width but an undefined depth. You can determine site orientation if your solutons are specific to this. (north, south, east, west)

Project Program - The home must accomodate a family that consists of (2) parents, (2) children, (1) grandparent, and (1) dog. The original home (fl oor plan provided to you) was purchased by the parents. Your system for growth will guide the designs for at least (2) addi ons to accomodate the growth of the family to include their children, a grandparent, and a dog. This family needs spaces for gathering, eatng, cooking, sleeping, playing, and bathing.

Concept - Light is always an important element is design, but in this house there’s something a little more special about it. Based on the families wants and needs there are four rooms that are most important; the dining room, the office library, the lounge area, and the family room. In these rooms light is the centerpiece of the deisgn. It is the most important element and is used more abundantly than in another other spaces in the home. The light pulls you in and makes you want to stay.

Project Challenge - To analyze and understand the exis ng building, and its context, in a way that informs your design decisions. To be inquisi ve and curious while addressing complex programma c constraints and opportuni es. To create authen c stories that speak to your building site and your users. To examine the natural and unnatural quali es of materials. To explore order and disorder in design strategies. To design a new work environment, at the determined project site, for an animaƟ on studio based in Richmond VA.

Inspiration + Concept - Storytelling as a means of exposure. When you tell a story, you are exposing information. The more information you expose the further someone understands the story. Through the strategical use of glass and a monochromatic color palette I have communicated this concept.

Project Program- Given an already built shell, design a space for a creative agency (Hugh and Cry) involved in production and post-production services. The agency works with advertising agencies to communicate stories visually. Things to include: Offline Suites (4), Finishing Suite, Main Animation Pit, Conference Room, War Rooms (2), Producer’s Offices (2), Director’s Offices (2), Storage, Full Kitchen, Workshop, and a Sound Engineering Room.
