Annual General Meeting 2019

The RSYC AGM was successfully held on 13th April 2019 at the Kenanga Room. It was attended by 60 club members. The AGM began with its 2018/ 2019 Commodore Jeffrey Voon delivering his speech and extended his warm welcome to the members. Following the discussion at the AGM, most of the active members expressed their support and congratulated the current Club Committee for a job well done in improving and enhancing the club facilities. The members also requested for an opportunity to contribute to the success of the Club operations by offering their time and expertise to develop ideas on how to enhance a better environment and facilities for future.

Revised Fees for Youth Membership

The Club members voted in favour to the motion of the rule in the Club Constitution on the amendment for Youth Members entrance fees and deposits shall be reduced from RM1,000/- to RM50/- and monthly subscription of RM10/- to RM30/-. This implementation is with immediate effect from May 2019. The purpose of this proposal is to encourage youth members to join RSYC sailing and boating activities by significantly reducing the joining fee. Seri Tenggara Boat

At the AGM, Commodore Jeffrey Voon was pleased to announce the good news to the members that the late Mr Goh Thiam Hee family decided to donate the Seri Tenggara boat to the Club as a Club Flag Ship. The late Mr Goh was the club Honorary Secretary in the 1980s had contributed to the club in many ways, likewise sponsor BBQ nights at Buas-Buas. His legacy will always be remembered with Seri Tenggara presence at the club. The Club will start the restoration of the boat and hopefully it will be ready for the Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta this year.

7th KFC Perak Open Regatta 2019

Ten young sailors were selected to represent the RSYC-Westports team, mainly to participate in national ranking regatta events. The 7th KFC Perak Open Regatta was held 19th to 21st April 2019. Our young sailors in the Optimist and Laser categories competed with over 100 young competitors between the age of 8 and 9. We are proud to announce that our RSYC young female sailor’s adik Nadjiha Jah had successfully won the 2nd place in the final result from an Overall Laser 4.7 (W) Class and Putera Amirul who did incredibly well in his Optimist competition. As hard work pays off, we embrace our young sailors and encourage their persistence of training under the hot sun. Good job everyone and never give up!

Summer Program Package (Keelboat or Dinghy)

The Club will be organising Summer Program Package for the month of June, July and August, simply to encourage and giving more opportunity for the international school sailors in Malaysia. Summer program package is considered as a school curriculum during the school break for the children. With the duration of 10 intensive lessons and shorter courses available on the same daily rate. Please refer schedule below;

Club Function at the new Members Deck

The club is happy to welcome all members to the newly covered deck which it is now open for members to celebrate their special occasions privately. Recently, one of our club members just had his unforgettable birthday celebration at the deck. For those who are interested to have private function, we welcome you to contact our club’s event personnel for bookings and inquiries.

Celebrating Anzac Day

The Club was visited by a group of young Australian Navy and Airforce personnel to celebrate the Anzac Day which is observed on 25 April each year. Anzac Day was originally initiated to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli Campaign, their first engagement in the First World War (1914–1918). We thank the navy for celebrating at RSYC and wishing every navy and air force a very Happy Anzac Day!

Club Water Tank

Recently, there was a sudden water disruption within the Klang valley which affected the Club water supply. Water disruption lasted 6 days which was one of the worst the club had ever experienced. During the period, the club took the opportunity to repair and clean the tank that was long overdue. Contingency measures are now in the pipeline to ensure that the club will have sufficient storage tanks to store water at all times.

Hong Kong Artists

On the 25th of April 2019, the Royal Selangor Yacht Club was chosen as a venue from Asia Tropical Film Sdn Bhd for a video-shooting. It was for their upcoming reality cooking series with special

appearance of Hong Kong Artists - Edwin Siu 蕭正楠 and Stefan Wong 黃長兴. Invitations were also extended to the Club Committee, staff and members for food tasting comments and giving points to their culinary skills at the end of the show. A total combination of 89.9 out of 100 points were scored which came to the surprise and delight by the achievements of the 2 film stars. The Club took the opportunity to wish them well in their adventures and success in future performances.

The Ocean CleanUp

An environmentalist team from The Ocean Clean Up, led by Mr Tim and Ms Marlein visited the club

during their 1-week plastic research monitoring campaign to quantify the plastic fluxes flowing

through the Klang River. Their objective was to study and measure the plastic fluxes in the river

section adjacent to the Royal Selangor Yacht Club. Hopefully, they are able to find the solution to

solve plastic pollution along the Klang River.

The Ocean CleanUp is a non-government engineering environmental organization based in

Netherlands that develops technology to extract plastic pollution from the ocean.

RSYC-WestPorts Official Launching

On the 4th of May 2019, the Royal Selangor Yacht Club and Westports Malaysia Sdn Bhd once again organised a Mini Regatta and prize giving ceremony for schoolchildren from SKPI, SKPI 2 and SMKPI. It is a joint effort under the RSYC – Westports Community Sailing Programme for the past years. We are honoured and grateful that the ceremony was officiated and graced by His Highness Raja Muda Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah. The young sailors were much inspired by His Highness presence while we congratulate them for their achievement.

Club Members Deck

The newly renovated “Members Deck“ was officiated by our Life Commodore HH Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah during his official presence for the RSYC-Westports Mini Regatta and prize giving ceremony. His Highness was pleasantly surprised and admired the impressive signature of his late grandfather, Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj ibni Almarhum Sultan Hisamuddin Alam Shah Al-Haj on the RSYC official autograph book dating back to 1989. His Highness was also happy and comfortable with the overall layout of the members deck area.

Member-get-Member Programme (Campaign Period 1st April – 31st December 2019) In conjunction with the RSYC 50th Golden Anniversary Celebration, the Club is offering an incentive to members a 3 months subscription waiver credited into their account for introduction of successful applicants as new members. TV Advertising at the Club

The Club welcome members and non-members who are interested to promote or advertise their company businesses with a wide coverage of 8 TVs strategically located at the clubhouse. Kindly contact the Club event personnel directly for more information.

Happy Father’s Day

The Club is offering Father’s Day evening dinner with family of 4 on Saturday, 15th June 2019. Set Dinner offer for a family of 4 at RM300/- and comes with a complimentary Father’s gift. Additional pax will be at RM65/-. Members who wish to make reservation, kindly contact the Club event personnel directly. .

Sarawak Gawai Dayak Celebration

There will be a closing dinner of Gawai Dayak

celebration called the ‘Ngiling Tikai’ ritual which

commonly celebrated among the Sarawakian

Dayak people. It is a very old tradition practised by

the Dayak community to mark the end of the

Gawai Dayak celebration, and it is still very much

actively alive today.

The Harapan Orang Asli Sarawak (HOAS), a non-

governmental organisation based in Kuala

Lumpur will hold the closing dinner ceremony at

the Club on Saturday, 29th June 2019. Those interested to experience and join in the celebration

are welcome. Ticket price per pax is at RM60/- and
